  1. I noticed during the recent hot weather that the hybrid battery seemed to loose its energy quicker than normal & didn't appear to be as quick at recharging ... only seemed to be on very hot days... I checked & had everything switched off including the fan ... does anyone know if this is normal or had anything similar ?...
  2. I just wasted 10 minutes reading some bollox revue of budget vs premium tyres on Tyre reviews.co.uk .. the "budget" tyre that Continental put up against isn't even for sale ? ... I cant find it anywhere ... mmm ... took this from Auto express ... Overall results Position Make Overall rating 1 Goodyear 100% 2 Vredestein 99.5% 3 Nexen 99.4% 4= Dunlop 99.3% 4= Nokian 99.3% 6 Continental 99.0% 7 Bridgestone 98.3% 8 Michelin 98.2%
  3. Thats thrown the cat among the pigeons again, a quick look on tyre leader shows the Nexen N'fera RU1 as being B for wet grip 71db for noise and only E for economy, the Hankook Dynapro HP2 RA33 shows same grade B for wet grip however a C rating for economy and a 70db noise rating, however the Nexens ar showing as only £69.49 with free delivery which costs 4 out at under £280 plus fitting. I dont know what the going rate is for fitting and balance if you supply your own tyres, will want alignment checking and adjusting as well. The Hankook are listed as Premium Tyres whereas the Nexen are listed in the third "Other Brands" category what's the difference? are you just paying for the name? Nexen SUI not RUI buddy .B for wet grip and B for economy.. ;-) ... unsure why they call them budget.? maybe because they have a better grip or economy rating ... lol ... or maybe they dont earn as much money off the sale ...> http://www.tyresonthedrive.com/search/choose/?collapsed=true
  4. Don't suppose the warranty suppliers will cut you a check ? ... then like Colin said ... go get one from a breakers yard ...
  5. When I picked mine up from a Lexus service I kept hearing a faint tinny rattling noise from the front drivers side wheel all the way home ... sounded like it was coming from the brake shield ... I found a 10" flathead screwdriver jammed in next to it ... lol ...
  6. I knew I would need 2 tyres for my m.o.t. for quite some time (due last week) & spent a lot of time going through the forum posts & also the different tyre specs ... one tyre stood out for me for wet grip, economy & value for money & that was the Nexen nfera Sui, .... anyway I put my rx in for a service at Lexus last month & asked what tyres they fitted to cars on the forecourt & was told ... nexens ! (I did check a few just to be sure) They pricematched 2 at £180 so had them fitted while it was there & I have to say they grip & perform far better than the factory bridgestone potenzas & are sooo much quieter. I do remember the one thing I noticed when I first got my rx which was how disturbingly loud the road noise was compared to my shogun ... which I had previously fitted 3 sets of bridgestone duelers to & I was very happy with ... so as long as these dont fall apart too quickly I think i'll be sticking with nexen's.
  7. Well done Chris, when you say caliper mount is that the one in pic number 4 ? ... if so you've done an awesome job m8 ... have a look on Rockauto if you are struggling for any parts.
  8. That doesn't sound like the right price ... even for Lexus, do you know whats included in the refurb kit chris ?
  9. Are you sure you have the right lead Iain, 2005 > comes up as the SOT-910 .
  10. I agree the rear lights are red like on an Rc & the grille is pretty obvious, & the Nx has similar lines on the doors but they aren't overdone on the Nx, rear quarters (the bit behind the back doors) are almost identical to the murano including the pointless wavey little windows, I'm not sure if they are available in the uk but I won't be buying one, it's just a re-hash of the the old one. I honestly think the styling is a knee jerk reaction, someone put the new Nx next to an Rx & realized they had to do something about the Rx pretty sharpish & rushed this one out ... it would be nice to see some new tech like changing the nickel metal hydride batteries for Altairnano lithium-titanate ones & installing solar roofs ... but maybe they'll just make sunroofs an option on all models instead of a standard & claw a few more quid in ...
  11. I've seen the car in person last year at a meeting and let me assure you, it looks insane. Pictures don't do justice to any element of the design and the cuts and creases don't show up as well. The whole car looks great in person and the proportions makes it all fit together. These proportions can't be visualised from the picturesif I remember correctly it also had turn signals which slide across from inside to outside like KITT. There are so many little details that can't be seen in the pictures too. It's typical human nature to criticise changes. It happens with every model and eventually it'll get accepted. It also appears that the younger audience tend to like these futuristic designs and the older folk keep complaining so I can definitely see sales growing, especially in the States. I love futuristic designs but I feel Lexus has missed the mark with this one, the grille is Lexus but apart from that I find the rest of the car hard to identify, the rear quarters are the same as the new nissan murano, the back could be off anything & the sills are too fussy, no special design wheels ... even if they're going for the younger market I think the Nx would take that first, the new grand cherokee & cayenne are closer to the mark on styling whilst retaining thier identity imho ... ... I love the Nx styling but can't say the same on this one ... does it have any new tech ?
  12. Looks like they've done a bit of a rush job on it, but they had to something due to how ugly the the old Rx 450 looks next to an Nx ... Whats going on with the citroen rear quarter panels and the weird little windows ? & the "plain jane" back looks like it has been cut off a kia or hyundai & stuck on ... very random. ... I know it's not everyones cup of tea but the grille is better than the old one imho.
  13. Hi Matt, You can get the rear discs, pads & shoes & full caliper assemblies (inc carriers, pins & boots) for around £280 (can be cheaper depending on part choice) from rockauto delivered. the full caliper assemblies (inc carriers, pins & boots) are £150 from rockauto delivered & europarts do discs, pads & shoes for £130 so again all in around £280. europarts do calipers at £107 each & a brake fitting kit at £16 (not sure whats inc in this, hopefully pins & boots, but this is england so probably just pad retaining clips in which case just use your old ones) so works out at £360 but I'm not sure if their calipers inc the carrier either so you would have to ask ... If not you may still need slide pins & boots & carriers (unless your old ones are ok which I would doubt is the case) you could get them from Lexus for about £330 (last time I checked) or rockauto for £68 ... hope this helps.
  14. I would try asking the Lexus dealer you bought the car from, or your local Lexus dealer.
  15. I usually buy mine online and get them fitted at home, which is what I was about to do when Lexus said one of my tyres were a bit low on thread and they quoted me £98.00 for a front tyre fully fitted. Anyway, just before the cars due to get serviced yesterday I got an email from Lexus saying they price matched tyre retailers with a ten mile radius, so I found the tyre they mentioned (dunlop sportmaxx rt) for £80.00 ff (not a bad tyre judging from the reviews I read). On the phone there was an attempt to fob me off, so basically after a bit of a performance to make it look like they are losing loads of money and doing me a massive favour....and when we were face to face, they price matched it for £80. Actually, the whole service experience was pretty good, with me in complete content customer mode when I eventually got my keys back. Shame they don't do Rx tyres for the same price ... they would have quite a queue ...
  16. Keep looking buddy it took me 18 months to fnd mine m8 ... the right one will come up eventually ... although Rx 400 prices seem to be all over the show at the minute ...
  17. Just for info, mine has 235/55/18 bridgetone potenza's which I believe are lexus standard ... I can only think of worn suspension components or the wheel alignment set-up (insufficient toe-in) ... a lot of wheel alignment places set the toe in the middle of the range which is usually ok, not sure if this is the case with your Rx but a while back I had a 5 series that had a tendency to wander all over when set in the middle, I had to have the toe set at the lowest end of the range (tyres towed in) anything in the middle or on the plus made it wander ... do the top of the rear wheels look like they are aiming in towards the car a bit ?
  18. Loads of posts on this subject if you do a search Morton, seems mainly attributed to tyres ... ;-)
  19. Mine seems ok, depending on how the road cambers it can wander a little bit if I let go of the steering but nothing drastic ... do you have standard wheels & what make/size tyres & pressures do you have m8 ?
  20. Wouldn't worry too much about dvd players m8 they are old hat now that the digital media age is here & most kids are using tablets, I suppose they have a bit of "retro" value though, just like the obligatory tape cassette player ... lol ... black looks stunning when its clean & shiny but very difficult to keep that way, personally, I swore I would never have another black car after my last one ... biege interior ... don't forget to take your shoes off before you get in ... lol
