  1. I really like the exclusivity, as you say you very rarely see another one. I read that in 2016 approx 23000 E Class, 21000 5 Series, 16000 A6 and 250 GS were sold!! Only annoyance so far is the lack of auto-locking when you drive off, I liked that feature in the IS.
  2. Many thanks for the replies, I will have another bash at the sat nav voice and tpms. Will also look at the photos to see if my wheels look the same. At this stage I much prefer the GS, the quality seems a notch up, you get all the toys at mid range Luxury level including blind spot monitor, cross traffic alert, cooled seats, memory seat and parking sensors front and rear. I was also lucky to find a 2 year old car with the sunroof, ML and 15000 miles for about half the cost of a new one. It is much quieter than the IS and the level of waft when driving is tremendous, I actually drive much slower now and love the discrete classy looks but it is much bigger than the IS, not something I really noticed until parking in a Tesco car park or putting in my garage for the first time.
  3. Hi, Having just moved from an IS300h Premier to a 2015 GS300h Luxury (Sunroof, ML, Sonic Titanium) I thought I would move forums, introduce myself and ask a couple of questions: 1) how do you turn the satnav volume on? the car did not come with a full set of manuals but being a bloke I doubt i would read them anyway 2) where is the TPMS reset button? on the IS it was hidden down near the pedals from memory 3) do the standard 18 inch wheels have a paint code? I think mine have been refurbished and i'm sure the slightly shinny/chrome look is not standard. I assume you are all just as friendly as the IS forum members!!!
  4. On the open road it really does not feel any bigger than the IS, however when putting it in the garage for the first time it is very long. I needed to clear a lot of junk out of the way that was previously not a problem with the IS and it still only just fits. Did not even consider that it might not fit in the garage!
  5. I'm off as well, have just purchased a 2015 GS300h Luxury with sunroof & ML in Sonic Titanium. Primarily changed form the IS so I could get the sunroof, ML, cross traffic alert, blind spot monitor, F&R parking sensors, memory drivers seat & premium nav all for a sensible price. The GS is certainly a step up in quality and solidness but is not as sharp to drive as my previous IS Premier, but the level of "waft" and unstressed driving is tremendous.
  6. Is depreciation getting worse with the IS? I have been away from Lexus ownership for 18 months and had not noticed, perhaps I will take a more careful look at the used options. I guess everybody wants SUV these days.
  7. Might make it difficult to sell in say 3 years as the second owner will (I assume) have to pay the £310 for years 4 and 5. Strangely the 200T Premier comes out just less than £40K, so much for taxation to suit the lower emissions of the hybrid - but then add the desirable sunroof option and it goes over £40K - what a stupid system our government has put in place.
  8. Just been looking at a new IS300h premier with metallic paint giving a list price is £40485, i.e. £485 above the new £40000 VED limit meaning an additional £310 for 5 years!! can't see many being sold unless Lexus officially reduce the price by £485.
  9. I looked at a couple of pre registered 2017 Advance models and refused to buy due to lack of parking sensors, whilst you can spec these as options for a new purchase it must make the cars without difficult to sell in the future. I would like to have been in the meeting where that decision was made! Seems daft on a car at this price and not very Lexus like, accountants perhaps?
  10. I purchased a 2016 C Class Estate and had to sell it after 6 months due to the Artico seat coverings. At first glance and test drive they seemed fine apart from a lack of leather smell, however after the first few warm days they just became unbearable made worse by a lack of seat cooling as this is a rare option (I purchased as an ex demo). I would much rather have saggy Lexus leather than the really cheap and nasty Artico used by Mercedes Benz, vinyl seats in a £40K car!!
  11. Thanks, that helps, I have now found the fuel option (which was staring me in the face) and as you say you can put "Advance" in the search box for a particular model as long as you know it exists. Biggest problem for me is the interior colour option as I specifically don't want black and would also like to tick several of the colour options at one time. No great issues just annoys me!!
  12. Having departed Lexus IS300h ownership 12 months ago I’m back in the market. First point of call was the Lexus website to find a nearly new IS only to find the site has been changed for the worse, you used to be able to select multiple colours, exact models and interior trim colour. Now you have to wade through all of the stock a single colour at a time to see what’s available only to then find the interior is the wrong colour - who within Lexus agreed these changes! At least you can now select the sunroof option for the search which is great as none of the stock has a sunroof! Also the site doesn't seem to list 200T versions but perhaps that's just me. Still can’t find an IS450h listed……. when one appears I will be first in the queue.
  13. 18 months ago when my IS300h Premier was new it just refused to do anything one evening, no electrics at all. Having waited 2 hours for the AA (not good service from Lexus) they found that the positive battery terminal had come off. When it was re-connected the satnav/information system seemed to reboot and i lost my saved destinations and radio pre-sets but that was all, everything else came back as normal.
  14. Pairing with two sets of sensors makes a lot of sense for cars used in areas of europe with compulsory use of winter tyres as you see most cars in the Alps using black painted steel wheels in the winter. How can find out if the IS has this facility?
  15. So how are you guys re-setting the TPMS system? I can see the following options: Keep the same wheels and just swap tyres each season. Use alternate wheels and purchase new TPMS valves that are coded by the the fitting company to your car, this means re-coding in the spring when you swap back to summer tyres possibly by a Lexus dealer (ouch). Use alternate wheels and purchase TPMS vlaves that are clones of your existing ones, on-line companies such as the TPMS Warehouse claim this can be done, do you need to remove your existing tyres to find the code for cloning? Buy some kind of gadget, have seen this on Amazon www.amazon.co.uk/ATEQ-QuickSet-TPMS-Reset-Tool/dp/B008SCWXN4 Stick a piece of tape over the warning light!!!
  16. Pasted below is the information that I found. Some facts on EU TPMS legislation: As of 1st November 2012, all new-type vehicles will be required by EU law to have a pressure based tyre pressure monitoring system installed. This applies to the road wheels, not the spare By November 2014, all new passenger vehicles will have to have TPMS installed by the manufacturer It also seems that it is an MOT failure if the TPMS warning light is on or not functioning and I guess that would also invalidate your insurance if you fit wheels/tyres without the correct sensing valves. I think some form of DIY coding is required as going to the Lexus dealer twice year just for this would be painful, I have seen some internet sites that claim they can clone your existing sensors to solve this problem, not sure how is this is done i.e. do you need to remove the tyre to get the information?
  17. I purchased a spare set o wheels for our Toyota Auris with the aim of fitting winter tyres and got caught out with the TPMS pressure monitoring system that is mandatory since 2014. I need to fit sensor valves in each wheel at a cost of £100 each from E Tyres which includes recoding to the cars ECU and then need to recode again in the spring when i change wheels again. Suspect the same applies to my IS300h if winter tyres are fitted, i understand some manufactures including BMW and Mazda use the ABS system for TPMS which avoids this problem.
  18. What a great piece of classy marketing from Lexus - not sure that was the intention but very impressive and makes you proud to be a Lexus owner. Always good to see companies allocating money for this sort of activity, the result is a real credit to the Lexus employees who carried out the work.
  19. I have the same issue, previous VW's and Audi's only automatically reset after 2 hours which is ideal (and well thought out) for long journeys. Also I get annoyed that the music system can't be used without the key in the accessory position, again VW/Audi allow this which is great if you leave a passenger in the car.
  20. After 12 months ownership I have finally worked out how to mute the music system other than pressing the play/pause button beneath the CD slot, you just press and hold the circular "MODE" button on the steering wheel. Worked this out when driving a Toyota Auris that has similar steering wheel controls and the MODE button is labelled "MODE/MUTE".
  21. Many thanks for all the responses, as my cheap phone works well with the car bluetooth system I'm reluctant to do anything that would upset this therefore do I need some form of powered WiFi device that interfaces between the car and the internet? and I guess this contains a SIM card and a monthly payment?
  22. Okay, would appreciate some good basic help. I have owned my Premier for 8 months now and still have no idea what the premium navigation does (over the standard) or what the connected services do. I have created a log on with the Lexus Portal and gather that live traffic information can be down loaded which sounds useful. Situation further complicated as I only have/need a basic Nokia telephone and have no desire for a smart phone so am interested in the various comments made about Giffgaff, MiFi, 3PAYG – are these all substitutes for having a smart phone? What does the WiFi do? Waiting outside a travelodge yesterday I notice the car found an unlocked WiFi signal but was not sure what to do with it!! Any help or laughing would be greatly appreciated.
  23. Interesting post, I too have always paid cash but this time went PCP with my IS300h Premier with the intention of paying it off after a couple of weeks to gain the discount. However 8 months on and I'm not sure, It's nice having the cash in the bank for a rainy day and if you subtract the interest it earns (not much) from the PCP interest then that helps, but my biggest reservation is with such a high value car with so much new technology how rock solid are the residual values? Will newer plug-in hybrids become the must have?, will Lexus finally offer a higher powered IS hybrid? this model could evolve very quickly to keep ahead of emerging plug-in models from Audi & MB (I tested the A3 plug-in e-tron and apart from the ride was very impressed). At this point I feel more comfortable with the option to just hand the car back after 3 years and start gain, the additional cost of the PCP seems a reasonable "insurance" to pay to safeguard against any unexpected drop in residual values although I do note the potential hassle of the wear and tear. I have also thought about paying off the PCP and planning to keep the cat longer term, but to be honest it scars be to think of the potential repair bills of a 6 year old hybrid - surely this must dent long term residuals?
  24. Just been reading the final month 10 report in Car Magazine, concluding "The first-generation Lexus IS was brave, the second was bland, the third is almost brilliant", they do list one of the niggles as ""the lack of a postcode input for the sat-nav continuously irks" not sure I understand this my car has full 7 digit post code option although it is on the second page of options. Link as follows: http://www.carmagazine.co.uk/car-reviews/long-term-tests/lexus/lexus-is300h-hybrid-2014-long-term-test-review/
  25. Thank you for your reply, perhaps the dialogue it does show at 25% Audio and I have not seen it, will take a closer look.
