  1. Wow that is cool. I've read lots of scare stories about cheap ebay leads and software, giving false values etc...but that looks like a great job there. How long did you run it at 3000 revs for? Cheers
  2. Definitely £26.50 for 5 litres delivered on ebay - bargain for such a well regarded up to date oil. So you would probably get 6 litres for around £32. Much cheaper than the Mobil and I'd be surprised if the Mobil ESP meets ACEA-C2 2010 spec, although to be fair you couldn't go far wrong with the Mobil. How do you find oil consumption with the Mobil?
  3. I've bought 6 litres of Millers Premium XF Longlife Fully Synthetic C2 for my upcoming service - it's supposed to be easily as good, i've heard many say that its even better than the mobil - check ebay and opie! Theres also the cheaper Millers Trident Longlife 5w30 Fully Synthetic which meets most manufacturers specs, including the important C2 spec for your car! Both will do fine, but the Premium version supports the latest ACEA C2-2010 oil spec rather than the C2-2008 spec for the Trident!

  5. Ah cheers - is that just a standard toyota d4d filter remover? Will have a look on that store
  6. Cheers! I'd greatly appreciate that buddy - is it a 220d you have? Thanks
  7. Cheers for that - would anyone have a link to the tool I need to buy? Thanks
  8. Hi, It's service time - does the 220d need an oil filter removal tool or can you get away without it? Bought 6 litres of Millers Premium XF longlife C2 5w30, which seems like real good oil. Has anyone used a bosch or other aftermarket oil filter on this engine? The bosch is good value, but may just get the lexus oil filter if it's a big deal. For the air filter I'm just going to buy a Mann or Blueprint filter, the lexus one is a rip off at £26 discounted - may as well buy a k&n for that price! The Mann or blueprint at £12 will do it no harm. Cheers!
  9. You are legend Normski! Aye I'm gutted, it really takes the look of the interior, it's like a big cigarette burn - but at the end of the day it's one of those things, its not like it was done intentionally. Most other gloveboxes are made of hard plastic and likely would have ended up with just a scratch, as you know the IS has that lovely quality soft touch glovebox lid. Grrrrr...thanks again and I'll be phoning round breakers shortly, hopefully shouldn't be too dear.
  10. Hi, Gave a friend a lift with a pack of beer (at night) and he had the seat pushed forward as there were 3 people in the back. Forward to the next day and there is a whopping hole in the soft touch glovebox lid - the top of one of the beer bottles has wedged and took a chunk out of the soft touch material. I'm gutted but I'm going to try and get a replacement from a breakers yard. Has anyone any idea how big a job it is to remove the glovebox lid on a mk2 IS? Cheers everyone
  11. Also I noticed that the genuine lexus front pads are stamped "textar" - Textar pads can be bought from euro car parts for around half the price as the toyota boxed part. Same with oil filters, Bosch can be got for £7, can't be beaten. Just in case anyone mentions US oil filter comparisons, European Bosch parts are different to US stuff as far as I know.
  12. I complete agree why pay any more than that GM stuff - I bet it's as good as any, prob even better. I'd use it in the 220 only it needs a C2 grade. Millers is good value though, I'm using trident longlife c2/c3 spec also meets dexos2, bmw longlife 04, VAG 507 spec...pretty much covers most stuff. Think 5 litres is about £27.
  13. SE model, it has different gearing than the sport but I can assure you it's not bad on fuel on long runs - 45-48mpg (indicated anyway). That's sitting at motorway speed limits with a bit of boost now and then. A lot lower in town, early 30s maybe. A clean EGR valve makes all the difference. Those figures aren't particularly great for a diesel, but there is something not right if you are averaging 30mpg on longer runs.
  14. The reason that lexus stopped making diesels is because they believe that hybrids are the future and match/beat diesels in fuel economy and emissions. Diesel hasn't really caught on in the USA and Europe is such a small market for Lexus - that's the reason why they don't bother with diesels, nothing to do with the AD engines
  15. Firstly that's a lovely car, really like the colour and wheels. What people forget is that the head gasket problem affects Toyota AD D4D Diesel engines, Avensis, RAV4, Auris, Verso- But there are so many of these AD D4D engines made that all the HG's certainly don't all go, but I agree they are a weak point, but name me a used modern diesel out there is isn't a risk? At least you got to 170k without paying for a new engine. The IS250 is no doubt more reliable, but for a petrol engine they aren't totally infallible either - carbon build up and high oil consumption are known issues at the 80k+ mark. That said, if you aren't doing huge miles, the IS250 is a lovely car, but there's no chance it can match the 200/220ds fuel economy on long runs and there's the higher tax.
  16. To be fair the 220ds fuel economy is bound to be better than the 250s tho, mine will see 48mpg all day sitting at 70mph motorway driving - no way will would a 2.5 v6 touch that - IS250s are definitely more reliable, but they aren't without their issues either, like drinking oil after 90k or so.
  17. Hi, Have an issue with some parts fitted 13 months ago - does anyone know how long genuine parts are in warranty for? Cheers
  18. Touch wood - negative terminal lead was removed completely and cleaned and everything seems back to normal. Thank goodness, scary stuff!
  19. I would check with the dealer - I'm nearly certain that their approved used scheme is strict in that the tyres have to be a certain mm. Are the tyres down to the markers?
  20. Cheers Steve - I just moved the wire and everything lit back up again, although the dials were dimmer than usual, when it started, I didn't drive it but it sounded 100%, I let it warm up then just switched it off. Mechanic is going to look at it on Monday
  21. Well I had a hoke under the bonnet and my wife sat in the drivers seat -now considering the car was dead as a dodo, nothing - I moved the wires and when I moved the negative wire I heard a click and the dials came on dimly - most things worked but wouldn't start. After leaving it for a while I started it and it burst into life on 2nd try - sounding and revving perfectly..left the car ticking over for a few minutes then switched it off - then would open the doors and dimly light up but wouldn't start - so seems to be a dodgy neg terminal - hopefully!!!!! Too much of a coincidence I think - battery was only replaced last week but doesn't fit as snug as the lexus battery - hopefully the good old lexus reliability shows when I get it looked at.
  22. Hi all, 08 IS220d, 72k, 3/4 engine replaced around 61,000 - last serviced in lexus in Jan 14, next service not due until January 2015. Car was getting slightly lazy starting and got battery alternator and starter checked on the equipment at halfords and they said the battery needed replaced but the battery and alternator were fine. Got an exide battery and got a local mechanic to replace it about a week ago, car has been perfect since, starting lightening quick - the mechanic mentioned that the battery was slightly loose in the housing but was fine and it wouldnt move about. I checked the oil and coolant levels after parking the car up last night, the oil was full and i very slightly rocked the expansion tank to see the level as it wasnt clear, but it was grand. Got into the car this morning and doors opened but died when trying to start the car - now no electrics at all. Any help would be appreciated. It all seems a bit strange all this happened not long after the battery was replaced. Cheers
  23. Cheers lads, ordered an Exide Excel 249 - seems to be a decent make anyways - lexus one was typically wildly expensive.
