  1. I personally wouldn't use the Magnetec A1 with the D-CAT system - lexus technical advised me to use C2 oil 5w30 or 0w30. Magnetec C2 5w30 is only £5 per litre in asda at the minute! Billy bargain. I'm assuming you have a 220d - if you have a 250 or even an IS200 then the Magnetec A1 would do nicely
  2. Hi, Can anyone tell me the name of the colour of my 2008 IS220d in black - also any recommendations where to buy touch up kits? Cheers. Every thing keeps trying to mark my IS one way or another..grrr
  3. Hateful buddy and I fear the same for mine when it's out of warranty - pure unlucky Toyota exhausts are pretty long lasting - but sure the IS250 is probably the most reliable car on the road - look how much cars depreciate - you will be better off in the long term keeping it and enjoying it - you have a car with a bit of class about it, it will always cost more than a ford focus for parts! But it's chain cam, cheap servicing and that's all it should need for many years to come
  4. Maybe be expensive £1400 for an exhaust, but apart from that they are a very reliable solid all round car - chain driven, cheap servicing etc - it certainly isn't a nice bill but think of buying a new car and the depreciation - when you think of that £1400 is very little. Surprised at a Toyota exhaust dying that young all the same.
  5. What shocks did you replace buddy?
  6. Drool....health to enjoy! Beautiful big car! I think thats my next car, I will have to wait for 2-3 years until they come down to my budget!
  7. How many do you need? They leaking badly?
  8. Shock absorbers are shocking price for the MK2 IS and practically impossible to get on the aftermarket - you options are buy the originals from lexus, but euro car parts sell them and they work out at £150 each with discount. What kind of miles have you done? Surely shocks should be pretty long lasting on these?
  9. 48mpg from a 2.5 V6? That's crazy - I'd say that I would get 48mpg from my 2.2 IS but I have a fairly heavy foot and ever go below 70 our old 1.8 VVTL-I Corolla T-sport would have been mid 30s with the same time of driving at best (and that's not even taking it over 6,000rpm) Geez, I really did both think that kind of mpg was possible from a big petrol engine...geez even our old 1.6 focus (from years ago) would have got mid late 30s at best driving the same way. Would a Ford 1.0 ecoboost even get that mpg in the real world?
  10. Lexus/ Toyota are the same thing! The problem is with Toyota AD engines from 06-09 model years - doesn't matter if its a 2.0 d4d in an Avensis/Auris or a 2.2 in a RAV4 or Lexus IS - they all suffer from the same problems!
  11. Don't really see your point about it being a d4d adapted for lexus - I always thought that it was designed for lexus? I'm not disagreeing with you about the gearing, it's really isn't great, our 140 TDi CR Volkswagen will pull cleanly from 6th gear from 40mph upwards, whereas 6th gear in the 220 is absolutely pointless. From my experience the 250 would get nowhere near a healthy 220 mpg wise, as I said ours had cracked 50mpg on long journeys loads of times, our old 2.0 duratec-HE focus (same engine as fiesta ST) was at least 13mpg down driven the same way at the same speeds.
  12. Lloyd, i wouldnt be put off a 220d - just check the reg with Lexus and see if its had an engine replacement under warranty - if it does, it will be as reliable as any other modern diesel IMO VAG have serious problems with their (04-09) 2.0 TDi PD engines - oil pump failures are very common (which usually take the engine with it when it goes) pourous heads on early 04-05 and BKD engined cars, siemens injectors etc..at least lexus/toyota extended the warranty to 7yrs/112,000 miles to cover the HG fault (and components that have went wrong as a result) All modern diesels regardless of make have their problems. I reckon that Honda diesel would probably be the most reliable derv out there (out of the box) timing chain is a big plus like the toyota diesels!
  13. I contacted Lexus UK directly and they confirmed that A1/B1 5w30 oil is to be used (as per the handbook). I queried this again and they stood by A1/B1 5w30. I then asked them why did 2 different lexus dealers only use 5w30/0w30 C2 (low ash oil) then they apologized and Lexus technical confirmed 5w30/0w30 c2 oil ash oil to be used only.
  14. I don't particularly rate the IS250, yes it's definately less likely to go wrong - but it can't match the diesels economy on a run and it's not particularly powerful for such a big engine. I think the IS-F is the answer to the IS range tbh lol
  15. I found mine was extremely laggy until the engine change, but it's going extremely well now and just averaged 50mpg on a recent 300 mile motorway trip, it really pulls like a train 3rd gear upwards, the thing you have to remember they are very long geared so you don't get that instant shove you get with VAG TDis but its certainly not a slow car, altho it's certainly no 535d lol
  16. I honestly wouldn't touch a 220d that hadn't got its engine replaced under warranty - if you find one for that money they are a solid car, otherwise the 250 would be my choice
  17. Hi all, As some may know I got the engine replaced under warranty by lexus about 2,000 miles ago - the car has been going well but a few days after the replacement to get the coolant topped up as it was at low when cold (probably makes sense as the coolant was replaced with the engine) and the topped it a bit above the max line and it spat some out of the overflow (which is fine as it was overfilled) I have noticed the level is slightly below full when cold - is this normal or should it never leave the max line when cold? Thanks
  18. I am even more confused now, 2 lexus dealers I contacted use C2 oil, I've had a new engine under warranty - what does that fall under? lol although I'm betting that Aug 09 is the beginning of IS220d with more mpg and cheaper tax! Cheers
  19. I got the service manual from the lexus EU technical web site. This is taken from the summary maintenance schedule. Happy days buddy, 3 euro per hour or something?
  20. Where did you find that buddy? The manual in my 2008 car states A1/B1 Cheers
  21. Interesting, mine really has been going very well since the engine change - to be fair it didn't feel the quickest before hand - its certainly held off most cars that I have came across, it pulled away from a 140 TDi Golf. Whats wrong with the suspension?
  22. Health to drive buddy, Passat CC's are lovely, I've driven a few and really liked them. The VAG 2.0 CR engine is a peach, we have the same engine in a Jetta Sport (140) and as you say it's much, much better geared and very economical.
  23. Can everyone confirm what oil they are using on their is220d, guy I know runs a Toyota dealer says to use Toyota Premium FE 5w30 C2 (low ash oil) which is what I would have thought. Castrol, Mobil and Total all recommend C2 spec oil, but when I went to my local lexus/Toyota dealer the parts guy gave me A1/B1 ordinary Toyota Fuel economy 5w30 (he said that they use it to service all D4Ds!!) - this is what it says in the handbook and when I emailed lexus they forwarded me a copy of the oil page in the handbook. Help!!! I'm thinking of buying low ash mobil 1 5w30, I find it seriously strange a dpf equipped car not running low ash oil. Cheers
  24. I will indeed, health to enjoy buddy - hope to see it on the road - stunning car!
