  1. My 3 year old daughter even noticed the dash crack. The car is under warranty but it doesnt annoy me enough for the hassle of booking it in to fix it.
  2. Hi, Has anyone fitted these? Are they suitable for standard springs? Does the car need to be lowered? Is there much difference to the OE shocks? Cheers
  3. Ring and get a price, Lexus do a fixed price service for cars over 3 years old, which is quite reasonable. Mine is due a minor service next time around, which is £159 - considering that they use 6 litres Shell Helix Ultra Extra and a genuine fuel filter, the parts alone are probably £75, I dont think thats bad. On the other hand, at 3 years and 31k miles, it couldnt need much - probably just an oil and filter change (check manual - i dont think the fuel filter is due until 4 years/40k miles). If you wanted to go the indie route, you could probably get 6 litres of Comma Pro-Tech 5w30 C2 oil for around £30 and an adl blueprint oil filter for the £6 mark. Bluerprint fuel filter should be under a tenner if you wanted to get that done too. Probably get it all done for £80-90.
  4. As far as I know the DPF AND CAT are combined on these - its called a DPNR. So the 2k replacement would have been for this!
  5. Hi, I was driving home last night and the error message came up "no key detected". I stopped and restarted the car and it went away. Any ideas why? Never any problems with the keyless system before.
  6. 1. Some are reconditioned, some are brand new. But worry not, it's a full factory exchange unit, not some dodgy ebay job. 2. The replacement engine has modifications to prevent this happening and they have switched to low ash oil, take the new engine and enjoy the car. 3. Only use low ash 0w30 or 5w30 C2 spec when servicing or topping up!! Comma do a 5w30 C2 oil cheaply so there is no excuse not to use the right grade. A good revving on the motorway once a week will keep the dpf happy! Out of curiosity, what age and miles are on your car at replacement? Service history? Enjoy, report back!
  7. As much as I like the 220d and it certainly isn't a slow car, any German diesel I've driven with a 6 speed box has far better ratios.
  8. Thats just the gearing!!! I dont know what lexus were thinking - mine only seems happy and pulls in 6th after 80odds. You can put most modern diesels in 6th at 40mph and pull cleanly!
  9. I feel your pain, they are a nightmare to read! I always find (as it says in the manual) the easiest way to check is to switch the car off (at operating temperature) and after about 10 minutes or so check the dipstick. It can appear that the level is way above the dipstick but if you look closely at the min/max line you will see a slight break in the oil. Thats your true level! If you are unsure call into your local lexus centre, they are normally pretty helpful, im sure they will check for no charge! If you put way too much oil in, a symptom can be loads of white smoke from the exhaust.
  10. That wouldn't work because if the HG is going the damage has been done - the carbon buildup causes "gasket shuffle" which wrecks the head and block.
  11. 1. Lexus have never announced anything officially - but the head tech who replaced my engine said "7yrs 112k" - I have heard others say that their dealer has said it has been changed to 5 years - but I was definitely quoted the above a few months ago. 2. 7years/112k whatever comes first 3. How long is a piece of string unfortunately - check your coolant bottle and if you find dried engine coolant around the engine fan area - I'd be calling into your local dealer to get it checked out. This is what I done when they replaced the engine although my car was under lexus warranty. 4. It's a design fault, but impossible to say 5. Preventative measures - not really but use low ash oil and keep the egr clean
  12. I think the 2010 220d with 106k would be an excellent car, the 2010 model would have the modified engine - so the headgasket wouldnt be a problem and it would also qualify for the lower tax (i think its £140 per annum). Any real problems (which I doubt there would be with that newer engine) would have been ironed out, especially as the car has been looked after by lexus all its life. The newer engine is slightly more economical and theres no doubting if its a healthy one it will be easier on fuel than your IS250. What I will say with 106k is a fair bit of driving and you may find that wear and tear items may need replacing like shocks which are expensive on all IS models. If I had to change my 220 for another current model IS - I would seek out the later IS200d - less powerful at 150bhp, but apparently the 6th gear is much more useable, the tax is much cheaper, decent go and no real reliability issues to speak of. Such a nice all round car!
  13. Unlucky mate but that's cars for you! Mine had to have new rear discs and pads after the calipers! Any car can bankrupt you outta warranty, especially prestige ones - but at least you have a lovely motor to show for it - the IS250 is a stunning car
  14. I think the 5th injector of the D-CAT system kills mpg! Mine can get mid 40's on a 70mph cruise - but our 2.0 TDI CR VW would be touching late 60mpg on the same run! I just accept it, the way I see it, its easier on juice on a 1.6 petrol Focus for 177bhp and a big heavy lump of car! Mine goes rightly, especially 3rd gear onwards!
  15. My 2008 IS220d (59k) has had the following over the 6 six months under lexus warranty: 2 rear brake calipers @ £500 new 3/4 engine @ £6500 Dual Mass Flywheel and clutch @ £2050! Ouch!
  16. If it's not loosing big amounts of coolant - I wouldn't worry.
  17. Only use 0w30 or 5w30 low ash C2 oil! It doesn't really matter what brand - but Mobil 1 ESP 5w30 is used by many on here, Toyota PFE 5w30 C2 oil from any Toyota dealer would do the trick! Just make sure it's PFE C2 spec! As for additives I wouldn't bother just use good quality diesel (maxol or texaco etc) and give it a good revving on the motorway once a week to keep the dpf happy! Nice car just keep an eye on the oil and coolant levels - my 220d has done 6,000 miles on its new engine and guzzles oil. I used Castrol Magnetec 5w30 C2!!! spec for top ups - lexus service used Shell Helix Ultra Extra 5w30 C2 oil with the new engine!
  18. 5w30 or 0w30 C2 (low saps) motor oil. Examples are Mobil 1 ESP 5w30, Castrol Magentec C2 5w30, Castrol Edge 0W30 and Comma Pro Tech 5w30 C2. All will do the job!
  19. I do the same checks fortnightly - but according to the owners manual it seems that the 220d has a low oil warning as well as an oil pressure warning. A low oil pressure warning is trouble but a low oil warning isn't.
  20. Hi, Was looking through the owners manual and there appears to be a 'low oil level warning' as well as a 'low oil pressure warning' has anyone had the 'low oil level warning' pop up - I think this for for 220s only. Cheers
