is the DVD stored in the satnav somewhere (how do you eject it?), or is the data stored in memory and disc just used to load the data? -
Sat Nav Update

I've got the same question... my 2012 IS200d didn't come with a disc.. and looking at the lexus website, it looks like I have a 'generation 8' sat nav... but then it asks for a disc reference... how would I ever know if I don't have a disc! I've attached a pic if it helps... does anyone know what I need? -
Almost Perfect Is220D

I'd suggest the EGR valve also ... I had similar on my old Avensis ... after I stripped it and emptied a can of carb cleaner, it was like a new car.. much more lively, much more efficient. on the avensis (older generation engine than IS220), it was an easy change..I haven;t looked at this newer engine in anger yet....- 5 replies

Car Keyed.
jumbojake replied to toffee_pie's topic in Lexus IS 250 / Lexus IS 250C Club / Lexus IS 220D & IS 200D Club
I've had a couple of repairs done by a well respected smart repairer .... a kerbed alloy for my IS (£50) and a keyed door on my wife's s-max for £100 .... both superb jobs, done on my driveway ... excellent colour match, superb finish, lasted the time really well. worth a look around locally... -
Thanks for your replies... that's the re-assurance I was hoping for.... decision is made for my winter set-up! As for the summer set-up.... I can't think why they chose to have these bigger tyres on the back only on the 200d... not sure why this engine is any more 'tail happy' than the others.... I guess don't need to worry about that until March!

Thanks for all the feedback.... useful stuff and lines up with what I've found elsewhere. So, if I want to match-up the same size outer diameter, I could get 16" wheels, but different sized tyres? Front - 225/45/17 = 634mm ~ 205/55/16 (<1% difference) Back - 245/45/17 = 652mm = 205/60/16 (exactly the same) Or should I just get the larger 205/60/16 all round? any thoughts? (has anyone made this change on the 200d with 'type B' wheels?

Please forgive a stupid question.... Anyway, after all of the winter tyres chat, I've decided I should invest in a set of old wheels, and some new winter tyres. Question is, what wheels are compatible? Currently, my 200D has staggered wheels 17" 225/45 on the front and 245/45 on the rear. I can see lots of 16" lexus IS wheels on ebay ... all 5 stud wheels...... question is, can I use them ? (obviously I'll need a different aspect ratio to maintain the same circumference!) any know?

well, as an update, I had a good look today .... pads look ok (even wear, plenty of fat left) .... callipers seem to move freely... all looks good under there. I did notice the tyres are different !!!... can't believe I didn't notice before! (doh!) Seem the previous owner put a bridgestone on, with dunlop left on the other three... wear is about the same. The tread pattern is similar, which I guess explains why the handling seems ok normally, but I guess with different rubber it explains why sometimes it pulls to one side under breaking, but not always (I assume temperature, hardness of breaking etc...) What surprises me is Lexus dealer sold a 'Lexus approved' car with a mix of tyres on the same axle.... I understand this is illegal in some Euro countries... didn't mention a thing! Anyway, I'm still thinking about a switch to winter tyres, which would resolve the problem.

A Question About Performance Tyres? Ask The Michelin Expert!

thanks for the quick reply.... would you recommend just changing rear tyres? (wheel & tyre is getting bit pricey!) -
A Question About Performance Tyres? Ask The Michelin Expert!

regarding new tyres on rear axle...... 5th Gear did a test on this ... the results were pretty scary and proved the rear axle should always have the best tyres. -
A Question About Performance Tyres? Ask The Michelin Expert!

I have the same question.... for an IS200d .... Is winter tyres worth it, or better just to get a set of chains to use with normal good quality 'wet road' tyres I hear winter tyres are not very good for wet/dry roads, which is 99% of the time -
hmm took another test today (nice flat quiet road) ... - seems at slow speeds (10-0mph) it is fine... - At 60mph it's also ok. - At about 30-10 it pulls to the left 3 out of 5 times, and very slightly to the right on 1 out of 5. Disc wear looks ok, pads look ok and about the same both sides..... A So ... I had a stiff calliper on my old Avensis, didn't notice any pull (but it is front wheel drive, so perhaps less sensitive?) .... however, there was a really obvious difference in the pad thickness, which is what triggered my notice when I gave it a service.... pins cleaned, re-greased and seemed ok. I'm a bit confused... I do notice if I hit 'tramlines' in the road, from heavy lorries, the steering is pulled all over, the same on cambered roads ...so I wonder if this is just the nature of front wheel drive? .... am I being paranoid?
-
I've noticed, occasionally, my car pulls to the left when I pull upto traffic lights ... but if I try again (when safe), it seems fine. I'm new to rear wheel drive and not sure if my problem is due to camber in the road affecting this lighter steering, or some odd intermittent braking problem. I don't notice any binding sounds, nor pulling when free-wheeling at low speed.

My 2012 IS200d seems to have an intermittent problems with the dimmer function on the rear view mirror. My old Avensis had this feature and it worked really well ... but on my IS, it seems to work occasionally... not sure yet if it works after a pot hole or because of someone in the next lane. It doesn't seem to work if someone is right behind me... turn it off and on and I just don't see the difference. I can't be bothered with another 60mile round trip to dealer to again be told there is no issue (just don't seem to be interested once they took the sale :-( )... does anyone have experience of the same problem..? I assume it is a connection problem in the mirror assembly... can it be disassembled, or is it a replacement part?
-
Agree with the above... maybe 500 miles and it will be black (that's not good, oil should be clean, it;s just the way of diesels)... will be good for another 6000miles at least. (I don't agree with long service intervals) As for economy ... you'll have lights, heaters, demisters on more .. surprising how much difference they make my fuel economy dropped below 40 this week.. but then the wife had it for a day... poor car :-(
-
for me, once the warranty has expired, I will be doing pretty much everything that doesn't require a ramp ... servicing, brakes, timing chain, wheel bearings etc... although if the IS200d is as solid as my previous Avensis, then there won't be much to do other than usual servicing! Has anyone used the data from the offical website??.... how much can you download in the time-frame allowed?

I've recently bought a 2012 IS200d advance, which is great, but the AM radio is pretty poor... so to keep me in touch with Talk sport and 5live, looks like I need DAB ... I see the unit has a DAB button, but option isn't fitted. Does anyone know if this upgrade is possible... and if so, how much much or even what's involved ??
