  1. Have only realised you made a remark - Not a worthwhile one anyway - stupid or not I have a suspicion that you may think you know more than you actually do, as the car is still on the road passed each MOT with flying colours and starts every time so methinks I can make a thread to report my experience. As my level returns to its level thus one can say no water loss your sentiment can be ignored - I wonder how many have followed your advice and thrown away the car? Enjoy Kent and the lorry park on the M20.
  2. Graham - great info, well done. Update on where wiring is as requested above would be very helpful.
  3. Interesting - no one wants to add to this conversation? Now back to resolving this after knee op- so any advice out there?
  4. Excellent spotting of the leaky radiator. I am still investigating and am sourcing an egr cooler. Definitely not a leak in my scenario - just over pressurising.
  5. James, I had written a Sticky Note - not quite certain how they work, just about to send it in response to you and it disappeared. In a nutshell we have a friend who has moved to Telford, so could try to pop-in to chat over a cuppa mid-november. Once we have a cunning plan sorted will make contact. Keep the faith with the Lexus. Stan
  6. Resevoir is good - loss of water only through the exhaust port. Have met another chap who had a crack like you suggest. Also replaced pressure cap to make sure. Confident in egr cooler - now working out a method of testing this whilst on engine if possible.
  7. Hi James, you sound a little dejected with your Lexus, a pity as they are really good cars. My love affair with Lexus started 4 years ago when after reading good reports about them found a battered GS450h and rebuilt it over a winter when recovering from a broken collarbone. I am not a mammoth expert on them but have learnt to maintain them with self-learning about the electronics to overcome many minor irritations that have been experienced. Where in Staffordshire are you? I leave Ireland on Wednesday and return to Somerset on Thursday via Pembroke / Bristol (M4/M5). I should explain all of the Lexus cars my wife and I own have a story behind them - some funny, some wierd, and some mad. We are just general run o the mill folk who have bought some Lexus for enjoyment as well as work. The IS220d car with this problem has only 107k and is staying in NI while I consider the options. I have a second IS220d - black '08' and only 123k - runs like a dream and used to get me up and down the M-way for work until Feb this year when I finished the contract. If you fancy a project I have a '58' IS250 in the garden awaiting my attention - stupidly won it on fleabay (long story) and forgot to check if a wheelnut key was with it. So stood up in back of garden waiting for me to get the wheels off. Should you want some knowledge about GS450h have you considered options and year? I have an '06', black SEL? I also have a '59' SE that wife really enjoyed until she decided it was too large - so I got a Ct200h for her and kept the GS as it has only done 32k. Should you want a trip to Somerset - Taunton, for a chat and an adventure please let me know. Bring the IS220d and maybe we can resolve the issue you have. Cheers. Stan
  8. My initial start to resolve this problem was to visit a local scrapyard to remove a cooler - little did I realise how awkward it would be. After an hour had to leave as he wanted to close - as it was 12 noon. Had to learn on the go - removing the exhaust manifold is not simple as to access one bolt under the manifold outlet is a torment. To displace the turbo to get to the cooler is also a headache with all the ancillary pipes. Reviewed options and found some coolers for sale on fleabay. Noticed a circular seal is needed between engine block and cooler and thought oops - perhaps a new one would be needed as most coolers being sold do not have it on. Now thinking about how to test the cooler before making purchase - to confirm it will work correctly our thoughts are to pressurise the exhaust inlet, blank the out, then listen if noise is heard in water inlet. Any thoughts by others welcome. Possible option is to place in bowl of water to see if bubble come out of water inlet. Discuss anyone.
  9. Hello Colin, Many Thanks for this idea - I suspect this is the cause in my scenario. I shall be investigating this once time allows after MoT on Sunday (Yes Sunday - in NI they have a huge backlog). Hope the item is easily removed.
  10. Experiencing same problem - on 07 IS220d, only 107k, MOT on Sunday - here in NI, hope it passes. Cannot find info on changing head gasket - strange omission on this forum site - or is it me?
  11. I also have an 07 with same issue - would like to know where gasket fails - if the location is the same for most of these problems.
  12. Just changed the front pads on GS450h after 31k - pads are similar in size to a Ford Focus, so even with Brake assistance from motor regeneration the wear is similar to a typical car. Car often driven by wife who treats it like a pussycat, whilst I drive it with gusto at times. All pads wore evenly and true.
  13. Hi Josh, With the miles you have done I would expect the Discs also to be replaced. They are designed to last 2 sets of brake pads, with a set designed to last typically 25 to 30k miles. I have just replaced my GS450h brakes last Monday - they had worn to less than 0.5mm, the wear indicator had rusted off and so was not warning me. Anyway what I am tryong to say here is that you have a few miles before real danger - but not many. The job will only take an hour as long as the sliders are free (assuming this is the style) on the GS450h it is only 1 pin and the job took me just over 35mins for bnoth sides. Southern Ireland I found is expensive for parts and at the mo the europarts deal in UK is worthy of investigating. If you want I am travelling to Ireland next weekend with a car so if you want some parts brought over then I might be able to help - Actually going to Newry, no ferry booked yet, so could go via Dublin and then up, so could drop off on you or you could collect from my family in Camlough.
  14. Nice to see this info - had TS v8, and also found no IS220d listed - annoying, now spent a day learning how to get V12 working with Windows7, finally got it working and lo and behold - no options but find the model code. Hence now writing this THANK YOU to fellow members. Why I was using TS - Poor brakes, hard pedal (little sensation of braking), took off master cylinder to see if leaking, now guess the ABS controller may be faulty. Thought a good way was to interrogate ECU and see if any codes appeared. Hey ho - onwards and upwards as they say.
  15. More Knowledge - Multiplexer B is on LHS. MUltiplexer A with Microprocessor is on RHS (right of Fuse Box) NO SECURITY or START PROBLEM Reviewed what I had done and for piece of mind started again thus disconnected battery, Took LHS fuse box out again, disconnected mutltiplexer also, reviewed all fuses and found I had misplaced a fuse in a gapped one (Security Start/Stop - Fuse 8 ) - Phew! At same time disconnected and reconnected all available LHS connectors located on body panel. Reconnected Battery - voila - ALL systems are now working (except passenger door mirror) - but main functions are OK. I have to assume I have corrected a dodgy pin connection, or reset a setting by default within the CAN system, or struck lucky. Still would like to know if I could have swopped Multiplexer with another - I am confident it would be OK, but ?
  16. HELP NEEDED - Where is the Multiplexer located? I think it is on the LHS (passenger side), adjacent to the fuse box - but I have a doubt if this is correct. Cannot see it identified on the drawings so am perplexed - also uncertain if I can swop it with another from a different car. Has anyone done this?
  17. Hi cruisermark, missed your Q from Sat, The only difference between the two is the feel, and reported mpg. The oldun is a not so tight in both steering and general road handling there is a feel of wear in bearings, also oddly reported mpg is fractionally better when doing similar speeds along motorway. Slightly more wear on drivers seat for oldun and odd scuff marks on plastics - not a major worry really. Bodywork has a light groove indentation on front and rear wheel arch from stupidly parking too close to a wooden fence. Bought it for fun driving as I loved the energy it has. Got the youngun for my wife and a project at the time, she loved it but for physical width, choosing different mainroad routes to and fro from home. After 3 yrs I got her a CT200h (big burfday), and did not want to part with younger. It does drive like new and gives me a smile when driving. Currently I am using the younger as oldun has a puncture to be repaired and I have neglected to sort out replacing two tyres. The only other observation I have about a GS - you do not see many of them on the road, I have seen 3 others in 3 yrs, except those I looked at when searching for one.
  18. Update on IS220d Headlight, Indicator, Horn and Wiper issues. Discovered with help, that when ignition NOT ON - Headlights, Fogs and SideLights all function. When Ignition turned on to accessory or ON then all functions are not working (except fast wiper position). Oddity 1 - Also discovered that when Indicator positioned either RH or LH and then Ignition depressed to Acessories or ON they work for approx 6 repetitions then stop - if try to change RH to LH or vice-versa original indicator chosen stays on for 6 repeats. Have now changed Wiper Stalk with ECU to prove the stalk works fine in another car. Oddly/stupidly forgot to refit the "B Block" in the engine bay fuse compartment and stalk still functioned wipers and indicators. Have removed and refitted all relays in the engine fuse boxes - just in case a terminal was dirty - still no joy. Oddity 2 - In amongst all this the only other malfunction is the CD/Audio lower panel function switches - nothing works, radio function works from buttons on dash or steering wheel, just cannot switch it off or change options with the lower panel. CONCLUSION SO FAR My belief now is that one of the Communication ECU's has thrown a wobbly - which one though? DIFFICULTY ONE - The system information gleaned from Lexus does not reveal/identify precisely which does what (still learning about this). A reference is made to ECU LH, in the Turn Signal Diagnosis, which I assume is in the footwell fuse box on the passenger side, but at the moment I can find no reference to the fusebox (i assume with an ECU also) on the RH (drivers) footwell - and assume it also plays a part within the communications loom. DIFFICULTY TWO - Is there a possible electronic gremlin that links both the Audio control malfunction and the main stalk problems I have? HAS ANYONE HAD A SIMILAR ISSUE and can offer some ideas? (away to work for 3 days) Where is Gateway ECU?
  19. WELL DONE LEXUS and Colin Have registered and paid 2 hr subscription for access to the support as suggested by Colin. Cost is not inc tax hence 6Euro becomes 7.20euro. Well worth it - caution needed to differentiate between pre2009 and post 2009, also LHD and RHD. Able to download and print diagrams whilst researching which was brilliant. Worth reviewing the Maintenance Manuals as diagnostics info worth reading, although confidence in using Multimeters and access to diagnostic reader required.
  20. Have visited the tech website - very good, have registered but not yet subscribed as will wait for morning for a refresh of mind. I guess you mean an hour subscription. Curious about the MPX-B though and its location - Also how to prove the stalk circuit. In your opinion what would you suspect?
  21. Thank you Colin, very prompt, and useful info. What do you mean by an hour - to view the wiring diagrams, or to do the job? MPX - B = is this a multiplexer and is it the item identified as Block B in theengine compartment main fuse box? I have swopped this with another and no improvement. Regards Stan
  22. Having difficulty finding wiring diagram to identify why steering stalks are not fully functioning. When Ignition on I have no Indicators, Horn, Fogs, Most windscreen functions, and headlights. Oddly had this last weekend, got it all back after pulling fuses and connectors, then car parked for 4 days then nothing again, have removed the stalk and see link cable to indicator stalk so now realise main control circuit is on Windscreen Stalk. Oddly when Ignition is Off I have a horn and headlight indication - weird one, I suspect stalk or an an ECU - but which one? Any advise welcome, have tried to download a supposed manual from Cardiagn.com but only can get the doc converter loaded. Thanks in advance
