Thanks Steve. Not got a problem finding an alternative size. Most cars speedos are inaccurate. They can be up to 10% out. What I am wanting is the difference between the speedo reading and the gps reading. so if the speedo reads 70 what does the gps say. I am after this for the standard LS wheel/tire size. This will then allow me to tweak the tire size calculator to find the closest size to suit a true speed reading.

Guys I am wanting to buy some winter tires soon but have changed the wheels to 17" IS200 wheels with the incorrect size tires on it for an LS so the speedo reads wrong. 62 on the clock is 70 real speed according to the gps. What I was wondering is if the speedo is out with stock 225/60/16 wheels and if so by how much? I want to buy a size that is as close to true speed as possible. Has anyone done a gps comparison?

Let The Fun Begin...

How are you tying it in with the car audio? -
Scotland to Cornwall not 1 LS. Was a lovely drive. Very comfy and quiet. Quite fun around the twisty coastal roads. Not so much fun trying to pass oncoming traffic on the single track roads. V8 fantastic though. Some very steep hills no problem whatsoever. Only issue I had was trying to reverse on gras up a hill. No traction. A couple of mats and a shove from my lads soon sorted that. Lost the number plate in a bush though.

Will see what I can find out. I have just bought an Autel diagnostics unit that is supposed to work with my LS400 (pre obd2 connector) but I've not managed to get it to work as yet. Maybe that will tell me something interesting. If anyone needs some diagnosis info from your car just ping me. Should do all the Lexus models. Not just OBD, it is a proper workshop unit. Does live data, adaptions, key coding etc. I'm in Dunfermline Scotland so probably too far for most to go.

Only recall on the LS seems to be a the following PASSENGER VEHICLES. DUE TO IMPROPER ASSEMBLY OF THE TERMINAL FOR THE STARTER MOTOR MAGNETIC SWITCH, AN ELECTRICAL SHORT CIRCUIT CAN OCCUR IF ELECTRICALLY-CONDUCTIVE LIQUID, SUCH AS ROAD SPLASH WITH DEICING SALT, ENTERS THIS AREA. So not sure what Lexus did for yours 9690phil

I know the ECU is fine as I have just had the caps done (because I thought this might be the issue). Could try the HT leads I guess but a new set of them is expensive to simply test. Will research the recall. It isn't a massive thing it just seems a bit excessive. Didn't seem to do it before the warm weather started.

Chaps, Is it normal for the cars engine speed to fluctuate often(couple of hundred RPM) when the aircon is on. I know it is normal for the engine speed to rise when at idle (while at the lights for example)when the air con kicks in but it seems to cycle every 30 seconds or so. If I turn the aircon off then the engine runs perfect. It is more the frequency that it cycles that makes me wonder.

I am a 42 year old boy racer of sorts. I also own an 87 VW Syncro Camper with a VR6 fitted and a 1972 VW Karmann Ghia. I couldn't stand the old man wheels on the LS when I bought it so fitted the IS200 17" wheels instead. I kept the originals so that when I eventually pass on ownership I can put it back to original. I might fit the winter tyres to the original LS wheels but will probably just replace the tires on the IS200 wheels. I prefer to run on winters all year round because they give better grip on the cold wet Scottish roads (well most of the time cold and wet Scottish roads).

Ecu Issues

I was going to do mine myself but struggled to get the caps without buying multiples I didn't need and the lead time was long on some as well. I figured getting Clark Electronics to do it was the smart option in this case. -

Yeah probably but 1 they don't wait about for you to drop in an ecu to fix. They have other jobs to do. 2. The capacitor requirements for these mean they don't always have them in stock and have to get them and 3 who knows what damage the leaking capacitors may have reeked on the circuit board so it may be more work than simply replacing the caps. That said I think 2 to 3 days is very reasonable. -

Took them about 5 days but they normally quote 2 to 3 days. If you contact them and make them aware of your time line they will try to accommodate. Very friendly guys. -

That's the thing my car only has 30k miles on the clock. :D -
Hi guys I recently had the caps replaced in my LS400. Was nothing wrong with it but thought I would get it done as they had never been done and at 20 years on was a ticking time bomb. Anyway thought I would share the details of the firm that did the work. It cost me £60 all in but I dropped it off and picked it up. The companies name is Clark Electronics 63 John Player Building Stirling Enterprise Park Stirling Stirlingshire FK7 7RP Scotland 01786 450330 They are a small firm specialising in the repair of circuit boards. I was going to do the job myself but I was having trouble getting the caps I needed in the quantity I needed. They tested the caps they took out and presented them back to me. He tested each cap and said they were all fine. Very happy with the service and have used this company multiple times.

Keyfob Not Working
Slobbo replied to Slobbo's topic in LS 400 / Lexus LS 430 / Lexus LS 460 / Lexus 600h / Lexus 500h Club
Yep. Fixed it but by completely replacing the alarm. I discovered that someone had removed the alarm (badly) so it was no wonder the fob wasn't working.
