  1. Got a free alignment check from kwik fit. Is this OK? They used is220d spec when they should have used is250. but they have the profile for it i am guessing. Do I need alignment ?
  2. does anyone have a part number or know their price or where I can buy these ? The metal caps for 18 inch alloy. I jut got tyres done from kwikfit and they put plastic caps. Also Dunlop Sport Max RT does not provide and kerb protection and doesn't have a lip.
  3. makes me ponder. Does anyone have a picture of the correct toyota/ lexus tool? The laser 4880, like other, takes 3/8 inch. One can use 27mm socket but there won't be enough room unless the whole under tray us removed. Laser 4880, has different cut out. http://www.amazon.co.uk/Laser-4880-Filter-Wrench-Toyota/dp/B0039316B2 Laser 5160 ( looks similar to what I had) http://www.amazon.co.uk/gp/aw/d/B005I4YYUU/ref=mp_s_a_1_1?qid=1455538061&sr=8-1&pi=SX200_QL40&keywords=laser+5160 Laser 5176 (looks generic but has funky grips) http://www.amazon.co.uk/gp/aw/d/B005I4YEQY/ref=mp_s_a_1_1?qid=1455538163&sr=8-1&pi=SX200_QL40&keywords=laser+5176
  4. Ahmed I have to find a place for 20. but saying that, I don't want anyone using grips or pliars on the housing of the filter. I do not like marks and I prefer it to be done right. e.g. I didn't go to a local tyre shop where I could have said nearing 40 pounds just because he jacks up the car from the pinch weld. It will bend the pinch weld and that's the reason I opted to go to a kwik fit so they can put the car on ramps. In fact that's the reason I have to find an independent garage that has ramps. and the correct tool.
  5. I recall some discussion like that and that is where I asked about the tool. So the tool I had was a wrong one? What the correct tool? Thanks.
  6. I didn't check the rubber seals. Does Toyota / Lexus sell them ? I would like OE part here. is200 Newbie Wow... every 6 months... DIY or garage ? Sounds costly/a lot of work.
  7. toffee Yes ramps would allow more force and even a longer breaker bar. You are spot on on saying enough force. While I applied all my strength, there is no way it could have been applied without an angle. And angle is force lost and tool.broken. It just robs the DIY thing from it. Does anyone here change oil them self ?
  8. So today as I had the car up on axel stands, I did brake oil flush. Now what I did last time I removed the wheels was that I had used copper grease on 3 of the 4 hubs (where the wheel meets and the center hub). The one I didn't grease; wheel was stuck and I had to hit the tyre with my hand a few times. There was lots of salt. The wheel on the back side was corroded and when I cleaned it, the salt like substance wa's the alloy itself. This alloy did not have any paint pealing last year and not it had started from the center. The other 3 came off easily and no sign of corrosion. They were clean. So from that I had a few questions and conclusions: 1. Greasing the wheel and hub protects the alloy from corrosion and saves the alloy. 2. Alloy doesn't get stuck 3. Do we need wheel caps ? I was wondering if I leave them open I can always clean them and also water / rain can clean it which will slow down corrosion? 4. This time I cleaned all the 4 wheel cap/ center area and used hermite paint. Going to see if that fixes it. I also did brake caliper pins greasing and replaced brake pads and did brake flush: I used createc. Used Pagid Dot5.1. Lexus Brake pads. 1. One of the pins didn't had any grease left. but no sign of corrosion and was clean. 2. All the others had grease So question here is, this job is very tiring. Does it need to be done every year ? Is there no fix to it? Brake pads still had life in them but wanted to get everything done.
  9. John Yes, the car was raised using a floor jack and then axel stands used on either side. What type of ramps are you referring to John? The lift the whole car type ones ? If it's those drive on type ramps, then surely axel stands work the same ...? Yes it's beyond me this time. Even though I know the tool broke because I used breaker bar and pulled it while sitting in front of the car(legs under the car). Which may have given it an angle. But even that the filter should not have been this tight. Felt sad I couldn't manage this on a nice day. Thanks.
  10. A ramp is beyond me. So am I understanding this correctly, lexis is250 simple oil change is NOT a DIY job. Attached is the tool I used. Had 3 cutouts on one side and 3 on the other. One is broken now.
  11. That's a shame. So what you are saying I am not able to change oil of this car myself. John says 18ft lb. And for any normal filter you tighten it by one hand and make it hand tight. For sure someone used a ratchet to tighten this thing and over did it. last service was by lexus.
  12. I don't know about ML but for instance bose audio in my other car transfers raw data to amp then amp does signal processing. the reason I think they did that to eliminate any loss or noise due to cabling. Thought it might apply here.
  13. I have ...well had the 3 notch tool. to be honest no matter what way I put it on, it felt the same. I don't know what the 3 cut outs are for. Yes lying on the floor. the 3/8 inch breaker bar broke the aluminium tool. John yes I could have used a 27mm socket but there isn't enough room for any adapter or even my 1/2 inch beaker bar. I have a tool that when you tighten on filter it claws it. I didn't want to use that as I don't want to damage the housing. But it's very very tight. I don't have a lexus near by. Do you guys think kwik fit will have the tool? If no the other option is to travel to Toyota (not lexus).
  14. broke the Toyota tool and it's stuck now. can't get it off the filter Why on earth tyoyta made a simple job so diifi
  15. bought a 3/8 in 11inch . I hope now it works. bought the spray as well. so this spray... you spray it all over the filter housing , is it just a freezer spray ..
  16. don't know which idiot torqued it to their full strength . hoping Halford will have the breaker bar.
