  1. Boot struts http://www.sgs-engineering.com/car-boot-tailgate/lexus/is/gsc2655-lexus-is300-boot-strut One fifth of the genuine lexus price, info
  2. All fitted now. They are the correct ones. The Inner connector is slightly different to the standard Lexus ones. On the originals it has a kind of rectangular clip with wraparound lugs which need bending out with a flat bladed screwdriver to remove. The outers (nearest the bumper) have the standard C shaped clip which you release with a flat bladed screwdriver. Previously I had to physically push the boot all the way over the fulcrum before letting go or it would slam back down. Similarly, to close it I had to control it;s decent until the final few inches before letting go. My other half simply could not manage it so she let it drop from height which shook the whole car when it slammed. With the replacement struts fitted, unlocking just pops the lock as before but now, with a single finger to set it on it's way, it glides up to fully open. Closing is as you would expect for a normal boot. I've made a short video of it opening with a single finger. Thanks to all who contributed.
  3. I'm interested to hear any feedback too. I am also concerned about carbon build up but I don't think the standard Terraclean will help as it won't go near the area that the carbon builds up. I'm hoping your feedback suggests it does a good job of clearing out injectors and such so gives a positive result. Terraclean does have an addon to the normal process which is specifically for our Direct Injection engines but from my searching, not all Terraclean franchises have it http://www.terraclean.net/product.php?id=2
  4. Thanks for the Part number. Using that to search I can find a lot more info than I could find without it. Massive USA slant to all sources. Both Amazon and Ebay only USA versions have them new. I saw the crazy prices. I think I paid about £15 for my bonnet struts on my old 5 Series on Amazon but couldn't find nothing for the IS250 boot here, only second hand ones which may be no better than my current ones. I've ordered them from SGS. I'll update this once I have fitted them (still expensive though at £52 for a pair delivered IMO).
  5. Hi. My boot may as well have no dampers fitted, the boot slams with a vengeance unless you control it's decent until the final few inches, then drop it. I have had a dig around and I can't see any part numbers on either of the struts. There is a warning label with some unhelpful English but the rest Japanese. Ebay have plenty, but all from cars of a similar age to mine (2008) which may or may not work. I found http://www.sgs-engineering.com/car-boot-tailgate/lexus/is The problem is they only have an IS300 as the model, not an IS250. The picture looks the same but I don't know if they are identical or not. Does anyone know either the part number for an IS250 boot strut or know if the IS300 simply has a larger engine in the same body type?
  6. When my Ambient lighting engages, not only do the headlights come on and the dash dim, but the Satnav switches to night colours. Not the end of the World but may be a trade off for a simple enabler of DRLs.
  7. Haven't noticed any rattling. Only had the car just over a week though. Driven about 900 miles so far
  8. Good work, hope it holds. I've lost one of the rubber grommets from mine. Can't find a cheap one on ebay.
  9. Doesn't help in this case but just to help anyone else searching for problems like this.... I bought an updated map from Satnavdvd.co.uk The map worked fine but I lost all Voice Commands for everything including climate etc. The womans voice said to speak after the beep, but there was no beep, it just ended. My old DVD worked fine so I returned it to Satnavdvd for a refund. Lesson learned but I'm not paying Lexus prices for an updated map. I'm sticking with the 2008/9 version and keeping a Garmin in the glovebox for a scarce times I may need it.
  10. Thanks guys, I may have a poke about to see how the carpet comes away so I can have a good look inside. My old BMW had springs, even on the lowest setting it could open with some venom.
  11. Noob question time.... Having had my car for a whopping three days and driven just over 300 miles, I am starting to learn how it all works. I'll have loads of questions in time I'm sure. Are there dampers in the boot to control boot opening/closing? The boot flicks open an inch, no more and lifting it, whilst not particularly difficult, I can imagine being difficult for the elderly. I really need to push it up. On closing however, it's as if gravity is doing all the work and with the weight of the lights etc, drops with a good hard thud, enough to shake the car. Once past the fulcrum anyones fingers in the way had better watch out, it's like Arkwrights till. Is this normal or are dampers supposed to give a resistance to the closing effect?.
  12. I'm new to lexus but having come from a 5 series, I'm familiar with torque converter issues. If it were a 5 series, I could guarantee you need a gearbox fluid change, this is bourne out by the fact it only does it when cold and gets better as it warms up. If the T/C itself was faulty, it would do it all the time. Have a good check for leaks or evidence of weeping around the pan. If these are anything like the ZF gear box in a bmw, there is a very specific filling routine so best given to a garage.
  13. The gargling statement is interesting, that suggests you have air in the matrix There is a long post here about it http://my.is/forums/f87/infamous-gurgling-behind-c-need-help-plz-415033/
  14. I'm not familiar with the IS200 but I'll chip in. If you can get to the hoses in the engine bay which go through the bulkhead, one will be hot (engine up to temp and heater on max), the other will be cold as no water is getting through the matrix) Anyone know how the hot/cold selection works? Might be an electrically driven flap, that may have failed so it never opens to let the air through the matrix??. I've found two posts, one says remove the clutch pedal, the other is a bit more involved but neither require the dash out
  15. I just traded my BMW 530D in for a Lexus IS250 SE-L. I'm going to miss the 530D badly but with 160K miles and about a grands worth of niggles which needed sorting, it is time for it to go. Exhaust Manifold cracked, this is the third one to fail. Glowplug controller failed for the second time. EGR is flaky, I have two but both struggle. It's a very well built car, the performance and driving experience is simply astonishing, the thing pulls strongly from any speed and simply goes on accelerating until you bottle it. For my last purchase, I wanted a big powerful diesel. as everything in that marque is compared to the 530D, I thought, Why not? and loved it. I was driving 25k miles a year mostly motorways. These days I am only doing 8-9K miles so the 530D was not being driven properly so for this purchase, my requirements were to get away from the Diesel and go back to Petrol, and have a car with some toys. It's a 2008 (58) with full Lexus service history, all MOT's passed without a single advisory. It's had new brakes (inc calipers) and a new battery, that's it. It feels quite pedestrian compared to the 530D but that is to be expected, I did have a GS300 in my sights which was the same price but I also fancied a smaller car as the big motors can be difficult to navigate tight car parks (half of the car parks in Bristol I wouldn't even go in as the corners are far too tight). I'm struggling to work out what to do on it. I have seen a youtube guide for spark plugs and waterpump. I will probably do those in the summer. I need to get my Dashcam sorted out, power up to the rear view mirror but I'm sure I can find a guide on where to tap/run cables. I pick up the Lexus in 5 days and looking forward to it.
