  1. Where we live temperature in winter at night when it is very cold is very, very seldom below 10 degrees Celsius. Not sure what could be a compromise here with summer tyres. Where I was born, winter meant winter tyres, or calling for help. Or learn to drive in other conditions than sunshine.
  2. Coming from a country where winter can be winter, and have lived in an even norther country I have to say that Linas is right. Summer tyres are good down to 0 Celsius. All season are never really good (compromises are not good). In winter when snow and minus 0 Celsius are the conditions only winter tyres have any value and when real snow in quantity Possible to get something functioning close to this in plastic in order not to damage the wheels.

While major increases in load index will often mean taller, stiffer sidewalls and higher PSIs, and therefore a stiffer ride, there are many other factors such as suspension, tread, and correct inflation that have more noticeable effects on ride quality. 94 has a load index of 670kg while 98 has 750kg. Safra, a French company that specializes in the renovation of passenger transport equipment and a pioneer in hydrogen mobility, presented a hydrogen coach at the recent UITP Summit that took place in Barcelona last week. The hydrogen retrofitted coach features the company’s H2-PACK kit, which has been designed to convert a combustion-powered intercity coach into a zero-emission vehicle. The H2-PACK retrofit kit is fully designed and assembled by Safra. The retrofit kit allows the vehicle’s diesel engine to be transformed into a zero-emission hydrogen-electric powertrain. The original diesel engine is replaced by a 350 kW Dana electric motor that receives power from a 100 kW (70 kW useful) Plastic Omnium fuel cell. According to Safra, the H2 used by the hydrogen coach is stored in six tanks, which have been integrated into an area of the vehicle that is separated from the passengers by a watertight, ventilated and secure partition. The tanks allow for 35 kg of hydrogen to be carried on board, delivering a maximum range of 500 km. The hydrogen coach presented at the event belongs to the Occitanie Region. This is France’s second-largest region by surface area, and it has commissioned Safra with retrofitting 15 of its intercity coaches. For instance, the cost of converting an existing bus or coach into a zero-emission vehicle is much cheaper than buying a brand new vehicle. Additionally, certain on-board components can remain without needing to be reinstalled, such as ticketing equipment, also saving on cost. As for being eco-friendly, the retrofit extends the life of the vehicle, postponing the need for a replacement by several years. Finally, as a hydrogen coach, the same vehicle is able to circulate in LEZ (Low Emissions Zones), which was not possible before. Safra Hycity. Beyond its H2-Pack Retrofit kit, Safra has also manufactured a full-hydrogen bus called the Hycity. So far, about twenty vehicles have been ordered, and the company is continuing to expand its facilities to ramp up production and meet the growing demand from customers eager to establish hydrogen ecosystems.

Despite low hydrogen passenger vehicle sales, Toyota is pushing forward with the technology, and has unveiled its latest GR H2 Racing Concept as a part of that effort, showing off the vehicle at the Circuit de la Sarthe in western France just before the 2023 24 Hours of Le Mans. The hydrogen-powered car was announced by the automaker’s chairperson, Akio Toyoda. Toyota didn’t release any of the GR H2 Racing Concept’s technical specs at the time of the unveiling. The hydrogen engine prototype was essentially announced by name, without any additional information. What is known is that it is 5,100 millimeters long and 2,050 millimeters wide. As such, it is both longer and wider than the LMP1-H Le Mans Prototype from Toyota, though only slightly. That latter design’s prototype is 4,650 millimeters long and 1,900 millimeters wide. The automaker did confirm that the race car will be powered by a combination hydrogen engine and hybrid system. That said, everything else under the hood has remained in the dark. Aside from technical specs, it is known that Toyota will be racing a hydrogen powered vehicle at the 2026 24 Hours of Le Mans. This decision was made after the Automobile Club de l’Ouest (ACO) confirmed that H2 combustion and fuel cell race cars would both be permitted at that year’s event. The ACO has predicted that all competing cars will feature some form of H2 powertrain by the close of this decade. Toyota firmly believes in the performance of its GR H2 Racing Concept and hydrogen cars in general. “Le Mans is a place we can push boundaries and realize the future. My goal is to reach carbon neutrality without compromising the speed or excitement of racing,” said Akio Toyota at the debut of the GR H2 Racing Concept car. “I wouldn’t invest in this technology if I didn’t think we could win with it… Hydrogen is not just about zero emissions but a truly exciting technology: it delivers sound, torque, and dynamics. It is all of these things.” H2 Collaboration Since the third round of the 2021 racing season Toyota has been using a Corolla with a hydrogen engine in the Super Taikyu series. The GR H2 Racing Concept will be developed as a full race car for L3 Mans, as a part of a collaboration between the automaker’s Higashi Fuji research facility and its Toyota Gazoo Racing Europe in Cologne.

  10. If rear seat space is same as or (hopefully slightly larger) it would be perfect to find parking places to. And would fit in our garage. Still hoping that a H2 in similar size will be available before the old CT needs to be replaced.

  12. The CT came with Pirelly P7. Continental tyres are not that much more expensive and if bought by a big company like Toyota I suppose they could easily compete with the tyre garages.
  13. Just read this today: What are the tyre ratings for fuel efficiency? Each tyre can be categorized for its fuel efficiency. Tyres are rated between A – E; A being the most fuel efficient, E bring the least fuel efficient. The difference between each category means a reduction or increase in fuel consumption of 3-4%. If difference between A and C rating is only 2 - 4% fuel efficiency there is little reason to have this value at all. 6 - 8% would mean something. Noise from 71 to 69db gave a very notable difference in the CT. Very notable. Passengers in a big limousine with tons of insulation will probably not even hear the difference.

  15. Never been in the S2000 but I am sure it is some kind of really nice cabriolet. It is probably just as nice, or a bit nicer, as any other from that period. And with front engine it will handle like such do. Only car with a front engine I have tried where I could be fooled into thinking it was a mid engine car is a Porsche 928. Would prefer the S2000 any day far ahead of any other front engine cabriolet. All depend on what you are looking for in a cabriolet, sun on the knees and wind in whatever is on top of the head or something else. Yes, I like Honda, the Accord Coupé is one I still miss, just like the Datsun/Nissan 280ZX, so next car for us need not come from Toyota. It still could.

  18. Do not like mid engine? The MR2 Spyder was far more nimble and agile than the MX of same age. How the new MX is, I have no idea. The Smart was really funny and the gear shifters on steering wheel were functioning just great. Did you try one or just read about it?
  19. The IS coupé is a very nice-looking car. The owner of the tyre shop where I just got new rubber on the CT has a red one and it looks like he is taking very good care of it. Shining and beautiful. Maybe even more than the SC. Do not know if 250 or 350 or whatever as nothing on the rear.
  20. Honda make fine cars. Problem with CRX is that it is not a convertible. Only has sun-roof.
