  1. I’ve no problem with 20mph limit on the whole. However, I did hear someone on the wireless proposing that limits should be designated for short distances. I.e Limit goes up and down frequently. Sounds wonderful, but in practice it is easy to miss a change in busy traffic and it is not unknown for signage to disappear behind trees or large vehicles cunningly dumped on the side of the road. If we ever get autonomous vehicles, something will need to done about the white school 20mph limits. Neither of my last 2 cars can interpret the “end of limit”. I can foresee queues of traffic trundling down dual carriageways at less than 20mph because they didn’t “see” the restriction end sign
  2. It was a year ago and things may have changed. I paid 1 months payment and then phoned Toyota Finance. They couldn’t have been more helpful. Written quote appeared in a day or so and I think I paid the balance over the phone. Only annoying thing is the £2K contribution. If the list price was reduced by this amount it would have dropped below the £40K barrier.
  3. Hi By chance this popped up this morning; https://www.honestjohn.co.uk/askhj/answer/171873/how-much-fuel-does-air-conditioning-use-?utm_medium=email&utm_campaign=Newsletter 21 July 2022&utm_content=Newsletter 21 July 2022+CID_5700bbda13ffb88c6b22c0c981e8660e&utm_source=campaign monitor&utm_term=How much fuel does air conditioning use Obviously not aimed specifically at hybrids, but may be worth taking into account. I was amazed with the suggestion to partially open the windows at start up. Certainly when it was recently very hot, the fan was going berserk.I find it easier generally to switch the system to Auto and leave it like this. I have noticed that if there is nobody in the passenger seat, the temp readout ion that side is extinguished. Does that mean it isn’t cooling that side of the car? Weird.
  4. Hi Covid has changed the number of medium to long drives which we take. Consequently I haven’t got figures to prove any improvement in fuel consumption for the ES when using V max or similar. However my experience with 2 previous cars (Honda Civics (1 diesel+1petrol) suggests that the extra cost is at least balanced by improved consumption. Difficult to decide if my right foot knows what fuel is in the car and adds a bias. According to Honest John, the extra additives should help to keep the engine in good nick. Does this apply to Atkinson cycle motors? I don’t fully understand the Toyota versions. Taking both factors into account, I try to use the higher octane stuff. Not always available though and some filling stations have a ludicrous price differential. Incidentally, are manufacturers allowed to put in high octane fuel for official fuel consumption tests. Do they? Are there any controlled comparisons available?
  5. Now this is seriously embarrassing. I noticed that when the screen was wet, the wiper was leaving a streak of water as it passed. Decided to invest 15 or so quid for a new drivers blade. Not 100% sure as sun is obviously a lot higher at the moment. Looks like the mythical “scratch” has gone. Could it have been a damaged wiper that was leaving an uncleaned line? The problem is I have become obsessed with the appearance etc. of this car. I have always done usual regular cleaning etc with previous cars, but this car just seems to be in a different class. I find myself enjoying poodling along, soaking up the quietness. The sound system is probably the best I have ever had in a car, but it is rarely on as it destroys the quietness. I know this is all pretty sad and I can’t believe that I am saying it. Anyway many apologies for wasting your time and thanks for your inputs. DJK

To be honest, I didn’t have a clue what the difference in price between Halfords and Lexus would be. It was just a guess as to their cost differences. Of late, I seem to spend a lot of time sorting out wrong deliveries, problems with stuff going wrong etc. We love the car, but are very sensitive to noises. I bought the Civic Model 10when it first came out. On the first journey home, I noticed a high pitched whistle from the AC. Drove me mad. Honda said it was “characteristic”. Took months before they accepted it was a problem and issued a cure to dealers. Customers were not informed automatically. Turned out to be a resonance in some connecting pipe work which was eventually replaced. Didn’t leave a nice taste and was one of the reasons I turned to Lexus after many Hondas. Couldn’t face being stuck in an argument between Halfords and Lexus

I used Halfords for my last car (Honda Civic)and they did a quick and neat job with a good explanation. However having spent about twice as much on the ES it seemed penny pinching not to leave it to the Lexus dealer. My main concern that if a rattle appeared subsequently, who would sort out the problem? Well worth £50 to avoid the possible hastle.
  8. Just booked my ES at Nottingham Lexus for its 1st service. On enquiring how the car is collected/I get home, it was suggested that I use their new rapid service. Supposedly uses 2 technicians and should not take longer than 45 mins. Weather permitting I shall go for a stroll in the park. Decided to give it a go as travel to and from dealers would exceed that if traffic is heavy. Interesting to see if it is cleaned; it takes me a good 30 mins to give it a quick wash. Small extra charge for engine oil flushing. Agreed to this as I have done a lot of short journeys. Back in the day, I regarded this as routine at oil changes.
  9. Hi Seems that Toyota Hybrids in general are popular with thieves . I have heard that the catalyst contains extra expensive metals to reduce emissions. My dealer offered to stick labels on the cat with identifying signatures. They claim to be heat resistant. Also supplied warning stickers for the exterior of the car. No charge for this. Hopefully will have some deterrent effect. Won’t stop the determined thief. You can buy a Cat guard for some cars. May be worth considering if the car is left in a vulnerable position particularly at night. Hope you enjoy the new car. I love mine; a different style of motoring. Light foot on the accelerator, waft along and enjoy the journey. Gives a smug feeling as the Beemers and Mercs blast away with accompanying blood pressure.
  10. Hi I changed from a Mk10 Honda Civic to an ES. No problem with width, but the Lexus is a long car. I tend to drive through spaces and then back up using the reversing camera. Very easy then to judge where you should be.
  11. Only 1 “handle” which is off centre to the right to close the boot. Previous cars [Hondas] had handles on both sides. I always seem to have something in my right hand. TBH, if that’s the worst I can find, it shows how happy I am with the car.
  12. Please ignore the above. I've found how to do it. 1. Switch on car 2. Switch on Custom Mode (press mode button) 3 Menu-> Settings-> Vehicle -> etc Already on softer setting so hasn't improved the ride for SWMBO.
  13. Hi I am beginning to suspect that I have changed the suspension setting in "Custom Mode", Problem is I can't find how to set it back to "comfort". I am getting some hassle from my lady wife, so would much appreciate info as to how I can do this. When I go to MENU , then Settings the only thing that comes up is Display. Model is 2021 F Sort Hybrid. It is driving me mad. Thanks for ant help. DTR
  14. Slightly off topic, but linked to tyre pressures. When I first picked up my ES Sport, the ride was beautiful. Took me a while to suss the tyre pressure display, but when I did the readings were 2.1/2.2 bar when warm. I assumed they were correct. However after a cold night recently the warning came on. On checking pressures were down to 1.9 bar. The door jam and handbook recommended 2.3 bar so I pumped them up to that (cold). As soon as the other half got in the car, she complained of a jiggly ride. I phoned Nottingham Lexus who suggested I bring the car in which I did straight away and their service coordinator took it away. He explained the necessity of resetting the warning point and showed me how to do it. We discussed the matter and he agreed that 2.2 bar ((cold) was a reasonable compromise. The ride is better , but still a little jiggly on poor surfaces. I am amazed how a small pressure difference makes a significant difference. Is this common with largish wheels and narrow profiles? I am thinking of resetting to 2.1 (cold). Will it significantly affect tyre wear and fuel consumption? What are others doing please and any recommendations? Thanks in advance.
  15. Deal was complicated.I got a higher price for my old car than I had expected, but 2nd hand values were starting to rise. I took out a PCP for the £2000 from Lexus and then paid it off about a month later with no hastle. My old car was assessed as worth more than the maximum deposit so I received a cheque for the difference ( can’t remember exact value but I think about £2K). I had decided on the Premium model and expected a wait, but they came up with an F Sport for immediate delivery at the same price! Presumably it was either a cancelled order or they were looking to meet targets or both. Whatever, it seemed a good deal so I took it. Absolutely love the car. Unfortunately thanks to Covid it hasn’t had a lot of use. Looking forward to next long trip for a relaxing “waft”.
  16. Full tank of fuel. Set of rubber mats. Rear bumper protector. All from Nottingham Lexus. Does that mean Nottinghamis North or South?
  17. I contacted the dealer. Informed that they did not repair or do anything with windscreens. Recommended to contact local specialist. I expected a more helpful response.
  18. Should have said, this is not a huge priority for me at tha moment. However, I will report back on the situation as it happens. Dave
  19. Thanks again for your suggestions. I am intending to contact my dealer (Nottingham Lexus) for their advice. I would prefer to leave it in their hands or to use a local franchisee should they recommend one. To be fair when my local branch of Autoglass replaced the screen on my Civic, I had no subsequent problems with active cruise control, auto wipers etc. They insisted that the car was full to the brim with fuel and all stuff removed from the boot etc. In addition the replacement was done at the branch to ensure the car was on a horizontal surface during the set up of the ADAS. Dave
  20. Thanks for your suggestions. As has been said, no panic to get it sorted so I shall wait until the holidays are well over and consult with my dealer. Reviews of the Car Pro stuff look good but I am concerned about any surface treatment on the glass. Dave
  21. Hi all My first post here. I acquired my ES F Sport (white) in June 2021. Love the car ; Mrs DJK says that she feels a royal wave would be appropriate as we drift past pedestrians. We’ve never had an automatic before and thanks to Covid, mileage has been very limited. Only now adjusting to a different style of motoring after a series of manual and highish revving Hondas (no Type R/s though). Not a brilliant start when somebody drove into the back of it after a couple of weeks. Damage was minimal and sorted out efficiently by the insurance company. At last to the point of the post; I have a very fine scratch across the windscreen. It is only visible when driving into the low sun. Probably caused my a minute piece of gravel on the wiper blade. I have tried to polish it out with car polish to no effect. Any helpful suggestions please? I had to have a new windscreen on my last Civic. I know what a performance that was and also how much it costs. I would rather not follow that route again. Many thanks in advance and Happy New Year, Dave

Hi Just had a Nextbase 380 fitted by Nottingham Lexus (£358). This has no screen so does look neater on the front screen. Took me a while to get it to talk to the phone as the Nextbase App which I used with a Nextbase 522 in my previous car needs the screen. The 380 needs “Cam Viewer”. Annoying that my phone seems to “forget” the dashcam via Bluetooth. Bit too complicated for me. However resolution does look Ok when downloaded.
  23. Contacted Lexus and all now works.
  24. I contacted Lexus with the problem logging in. Nothing a happened for 24 hours, but then got a message that my Nav thingy had been detected. I now find that all seems to work. I can enter destinations on my phone (in the app) and beam it to the car. Amazes me and avoids inputting data via the car “keypad”.
