  1. It is down to how deep your pockets are of course. In terms of economy most cars will see poor MPG in traffic conditions simply because of continuous stop & go. The key is maintenance. If your genuinley worried about long term reliability rest assured you have bought the right car. You Just need to look at Taxis in service Prius etc. Lexus/Toyota will do mega miles providing you maintain it. Without getting all scientific as long as your changing the engine oil & filter to the manufacturer recommendation under 'Severe' conditions If im not mistaken it is 5000 miles rather than 10,000 you will have no problem. Engine oil degrades with continuos warmup cycles. Keep the oil changed regularly if your doing strictly low miles or short runs you will not or should not have a problem I have stuck by this rule & havent had an engine cause me any issues yet. When I was in the trade I have seen examples where owners are more likely to corrode the brake discs, & exhaust systems because of extremly short runs because they dont get upto temperature regularly before the engine gives you trouble. Not to mention carbon build up but this engine is not known to suffer from these issues as yet. Get it upto temperature & give it a regular Italian tune up keeps it running beautifully.
  2. If you use the heating or heated seats you will notice the engine will come on & stay on regularly more to preserve and recharge the battery recharging slowly using the engines power & to give you heat from the engine. The reason its switching the engine off when in Eco is because the 1st opportunity it sees based on specific parameters being met its switching to EV (Electric) as soon as it can its reserving power/fuel when idle same as any other car equipped with stop start tech. Petrol engines will generally warm up well within 2-3 miles, depending on how long your sat idle & how cold it is for the temp to drop is quite normal. The petrol engine will automatically kick in as & when it needs to.
  3. I recently purchased a set of ebay & DIY installation, less than £20. https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/174613145212?mkcid=16&mkevt=1&mkrid=711-127632-2357-0&ssspo=pfWVgpugSlK&sssrc=2349624&ssuid=m3fnkB75QhS&var=&widget_ver=artemis&media=WHATS_APP In regards to fitting it is a straightforward job: - Fronts are held on by 1 plastic rivet & a 10mm nut (Turn the wheels for more access) - Rears had to take the wheel off to drill a hole held on by 3 screws. There is a post re mud guards we discussed on the ES300H group. Highly recommend to fit a clear paint protection film for the front guards where the guard meets the paint on the front wing simply to reduce rubbing or dirt getting trapped causing potential rust long term. Here are mine fitted.
  4. Thats interesting I was told its a way of saying sorry for the inconvenience & thank you hence the free fuel. To be fair I didnt quiz it any further other than say well Thank you. Lexus Stockport do not seem to be partnered with another firm like Inchcape etc. They appear to be independent Lexus/RRG Toyota group maybe they receive a bigger budget pot. Havent had a great experience from Leicester Lexus part of inchcape. The traditional/independent Lexus branches seem to stand by their values.
  5. I have had good results with Mothers Mag & Aluminium polish. Great for polishing headlights too. Small tub approx £10.
  6. Lexus Stockport great customer service. Recall work in & out in 2-3 hours. Free car wash, air freshner, sweets & 20L of fuel.
  7. Nice ES looks more suited for an old boy in that spec or interior colour F Sport trim level is a must with Red leather on the Lexus range just an opinion of course. Spotted Civic type R in the background in that 2nd pic.
  8. All depends on the condition & Service history, Trim levels, colour of interior, etc If you go for a straight car that is HPI clear not a CAT N OR S thats been previously involved in an accident. Expect to pay £15,000 on the lower scale ranging upto £20k + on the facelift version. With hybrids and EV cars being in demand its resulting in these cars to retain their value. Good for a seller but not if your buying. Realistically around £16-17k will get you a good example, the dealers cars are always over priced by at least 1-2k with the guarantee of 1 year warranty. However even if you purchased a car from an independent trader at a reduced cost say for £16k & you go to Lexus for a service they provide 1 year warranty anyway called LEXUS RELAX, I do not see the benefit of buying from a dealer. Owned mine for 2 years now nothing has gone wrong. These cars are generally very reliable no turbo, or flywheel, starter motors to worry about. Just check the tyres are in good condition no wear on the inner edges or cracked due to age, the brakes are good they last a long time but are known to squeal a clean up resolves it simply regrease the caliper slider pins & your good, check the 12v battery is in good condition & you have nothing to worry about. The paint is soft just look out for stone chips that may turn into a rust spot. Other than this cant think of much else. Smooth drive everybody thats been in mine has always complimented it & the satisfaction of being different than your typical German rivals like the 3 series, C class , A4 etc
  9. There are more Pros to having them fitted than not. I am also debating with myself for installing them on the IS but just dont like the apperance when they sit proudly. We have a 2nd car with them already fitted & let me assure you having them fitted especially during thr winter months is noticeable. The road salt & grime does not seem to build up so quickly keeping the side windows & the side skirts cleaner slightly longer, & not to mention the splash back at the bottom of the rear bumper it really does take a while for the Muck to build up. Also the added benefit of reducing any new paint chips developing from stones flicking at the door/wings over time, is the primary reason which will result in rust spots if untreated regardless. I guess the key is to protect the paint if you chose to fit PPF before installing the Guards or if your really bothered every 6-12 months remove the front ones, clean/inspect & refit them but thats just an inconvenience ideally you want to fit them & forget about it. Rear guards are mounted on the bumper so no corrosion to worry about.
  10. Nice one did you put PPF (Clear paint protection film) under the Mudguard where the guard meets the paint? Reading online water/dirt can get trapped causing corrosion and the guard can rub against the paint long term causing rust bubbles. For reference https://forums.tdiclub.com/index.php?threads/be-careful-with-factory-splash-guards-mud-flaps-rust-magnets.440997/
  11. Guesstimate at worst to the loss in 2-3MPG balances off with less time at the car wash. Not to mention the satisfaction of having a cleaner car (until it rains of course)
  12. Nice example after cleaning do any of you notice the IS gets dirty very quickly? Even more when it rains which is expected I guess during the winter months. Have you experimented with fitting Mud guards a set can be purchased of ebay for approx £15-20. On a black car it wouldnt look too bad not sure on other colours. Keeping it looking clean for a llttle longer is always a positive. Good to get your thoughts on this?
  13. Interesting do you know if the battery you have now is AGM or the lead acid battery? If I'm not mistaken from the factory they came as lead acid & from reading up they dont like a discharge & dont seem to recover well after a deep discharge. The replacement I ordered from Lexus parts direct sent out an AGM battery, on the Noco 5 charger I haven't seen it glowing red for more than a minute since new the charging cycle usually picks up charge from Amber - Green generally takes 3-4 hours to the solid green light indicating fully charged. It generally sits on 12.1v if the car is left unused for 2-3 weeks straight. AGM battery dont seem to deteriorate as quick & can handle recharge cycles or recover better. Owner behaviour plays a massive part like short journeys not giving it enough time to recharge, or leaving the radio on whilst the ignition is off during lunch breaks or when waiting around, Interior lights on & so on.
  14. In the 3 years ownership I have replaced the 12v battery once when I first purchased the car just as a pre-caution. It is rarely used as its the 2nd car in the family in the 3 years done only 6000 miles. Works out around 2k per annum mainly on long stretches & it has not failed on me yet. The old battery is now used for doing oil changes on other cars using the 12v oil suction pump. Based on the experience of others on this form I decided to Invest in a Noco GB40 - Jump starter as a backup cost £110 (Not had to use it myself yet, however it has helped other people though) Also every 6-8 weeks or so I fully charge the battery on the drive using a Noco Genius 5 cost £79. The lowest I have seen the voltage drop to is 12.1v & starts perfectly fine. To reserve the battery energy to prevent discharge rate I turn the auto lights off. Also the smart entry is disabled with the key prevents theft. In summary if the car is used frequently you should not need to worry about a dying battery unless of course its past 5-6 year mark this goes with any car really. The bonus of keeping the 12v battery fully charged is the car seems to switch to EV mode more quickly & frequently than normaly when its been sat around 12.1v fully charged seen it around 12.65 volts. Expect trouble below 11v
  15. Is there not a technique to force start the car when the 12v battery is low on Lexus models? I have seen on a Youtube video where a Prius owner claims you can start the car with the traction battery in emergency circumstances. Link below:
  16. £600 (gulp)... brave move For me £600 would be going on either new tyres, brakes, tints, Exhaust etc Happy motoring.
  17. Interesting can you provide abit more info please. Where did you source it from? Overall Cost? DIY Guide or professionally fitted? Hows the wiring is it plug & play etc Thanks
  18. Is dark tint the only option available? It would look Factory/OEM fitment if the tint was toned down but each to their own preference I guess.
  19. It will reward you on the bends stick with the F Sport suspension take it for a spirited drive on a twisty road & you will soon appreciate it. Ensure tyre pressures are set correctly if i'm not mistaken 36psi all around. They are not run flats so should be smooth ride. Keep in mind this time of year local Councils generally wait until the winter passes then send the roadwork repairs out so the roads are more pot holed than usual is why you could well be experiencing it more so than normal. Not that I recommend swerving but I do have habit of avoiding pot holes where possible ever since I broke a Coil spring in another car many moons ago + keeps your wheel alignment in check.
  20. Have you explored changing the side wall size? For example 225/40/18 - Go with 225/45/18 or 225/50/18 Providing the tyre allows clearance between the Arch you shouldnt have a problem, the result will improve the comfort as their is more rubber/cushion to asorb the bumps. Caution: Not sure how it will impact your speedometer though.
  21. Looking for a Techstream software to see what options are available. - Which version is compatible with the LEXUS IS300H 2014> - How much does the software retail for & what hardware is required? For example explore options put the windows down with the remote. Reprogramme TYRE pressure sensors etc Thanks
  22. Yes your right its if the water sits there in heavy downpours may result in potential issues.
  23. Sharing for info noticed under the wipers at the front of the car there is a plastic wiper scuttle trim. If you notice water sits there you most likely have a blocked drain hole its located on the passenger side get a screwdriver or a pick and dig out the grit/mud/dirt & watch the water drain out via a tube under the passenger arch. I can only imagine long term it will cause issues potentially excess water getting past a seal under the windscreen into the cabin causing expensive issues. Appreciate this may already be documented on the site but if not this may prevent owners facing future issues. (I may well be overthinking it)
  24. Unlikely if your garage is not vented the fumes will build up quite normal. If it was an actual issue you would think the petrol smell is there permanently, inside the car the fuel pump is usually under the rear seats. You must be one unlucky bugger if your vent tube is blocked because there aren't really any reports of one blowing up yet.
