  1. As above a regular cheap OBD2 will not read the ABS module. From experience it is usually just a bad wheel speed sensor 1 of 4 is potentially at fault. Also it is worth checking the wheel bearing for play whilst your at it sensors usually go bad due to contamination or if there is play in the wheel bearing taking out the sensor with it.
  2. With your foot fully on the Gas pedal continue to crank it may just fire up as soon as it does let go of the pedal. Had this with a Yaris many moons ago took a while but it did start. Is it low on fuel? Also after start do all warning lights turn off if red battery symbol remains on its a dying or dead alternator if the serpentine belt is still on.
  3. Providing the pads are evenly worn across the entire surface/fitted flat against the the disc it shouldnt be a problem. To be fair you would notice if they were uneven when you took them off. I'd be tempted to give it a few miles it may well settle in providing your braking performance is fine, Hybrids are known to have light use on the brakes. Try doing a few brake cycles when the car is in 'N' ,so it doesnt use the regenerative braking just to see if it makes a difference? Did you Spray brake cleaner on the surface of the disc removing the storage chemicals? Worst case remove the old pads & reassemble with new pads & maybe with new metal clips as shown in the image above. They have a few different names (caliper shims) they should ideally provide hardware with new pads. Providing your MOT is not around the corner give it time to settle, the tester may pick on it visually but on the brake rollers test if if it passes the braking force test nothing to worry about. Keep us posted pls
  4. Classic sign of either a sticking caliper or carrier brackets not allowing pad to move freely. If you didnt replace the pads you wouldnt have noticed a seized caliper, because you didnt need to push the caliper piston back. Caliper carrier brackets disturbed at all during your clean? When you refitted the pads did they move freely in the carrier or did you notice them being a tight fit if they are not moving freely you need to remove & file the caliper carrier down sligthly or the pad ears (v slightly) ,& reinsert. To check for a seized caliper: Jack up the car put it in 'N' , chok the wheels so it doesnt roll, & try spinning the wheel does it spin freely? If there is obvious resistance or wheel refuses to move its likely a seizing caliper. Personally I'd rule out if its the caliper carrier 'brackets' before spending money on a caliper.
  5. Lexus RX450H Honda CRV 7 Seater RAV4 *If you can stretch your budget Toyota Highlander king of all terrain.
  6. To add this was mine at 46,000 miles or when it was 6 years old I have since comittted to doing it every 2 years. Keep in mind it has been withhin the main Dealers network since new! For those that prefer the Lexus stamp in the service book its questionable considering we pay top dollar for the reassurance! I Dont know why its not a service item, in fact I know why more revenue for dealers when a customer has a warning cooling performance low for the Hybrid battery. Blocked vents will impact battery life in the long term however because most cars will be out of warranty by then its not their problem.
  7. To be fair the IS300H has decent acceleration in 'Sport' mode with High voltage battery assisting. The IS250 being a VVTI engine probably loves to be rev'd out to use the power like the old Honda B/K series VTEC engines but then goodbye to MPG old techonology but making them very reliable because simple in comparison to modern engines as they are are turbo charged making them more lively in the lower range. For example the new CIVIC 2016 onwards with the 1.5 VTEC Turbo is a lively engine at 180bhp if your after good performance, MPG & reliability.
  8. Good luck with that! On these cars the ECU is not easy to unlock to remap. & they certainly dont have the market/fan base for tuning. You may have bought the wrong car. Your most obvious mods are breathing mods, exhaust, air filter, suspension coil overs, tyres, strut brace etc & weight loss get rid of rear seats how serious do you intend to go? Look on an American forum the IS3 especially the IS350 is a capable motor we didnt get that in the UK. IS250 whilst it may be a great engine its quite lazy not designed to be a racer more a cruiser.
  9. https://www.lexus.co.uk/customer/portal#/ You have to register I think verification via your VIN number & log book apologiee its been 2 years cant remember specifics.
  10. No I didnt buy mine New I think im the 2nd owner & if I log on it displays the full service history last 5 are visible for me.
  11. Your 100% on point it should have the 10,000 miles service record/log online at least for the 1st year. A family member experienced this & questioned why 1 year service is missing from the service log & they were informed we can not guarantee or explain why there is a gap in the service record however to reassure them because its recently serviced pre-sale full inspection multi point check conducted with a Full service which provides 1 year warranty. The salesman will not tell you if its got a gap in the service record! Due dillegence required on your own part. I know its ridiculous!
  12. You should have had a letter by now if the car is registered to you. Or for reassurance just call your local dealer give them your reg/vin number to confirm.
  13. Category S is structural. Its not to say its unrepairable but you would expect at a minimum documented report/images of the work thats been carried out to a reasonable standard. If you buy it & it doesnt feel right or drive straight you will soon regret it. These cars are complex machines should it have any electronic gremlins nobody will touch it. For example front end damage the bonnet hood pop up I have read on here cost approx £1500 each side (not cheap). & the rear of the car if its where the damage occured the high voltage battery lives there if water comes in its potentially game over. Even though the seller is 'claiming' side damage it is suspect as you dont know exactly what was damaged bent pillars? Did the airbags deploy etc. No service history is also a red flag. Lexus parts are not cheap either. I'd stay clear think long term when you plan on selling it you will take a massive loss. Rather buy a high mileage HPI example than a Cat S. Cat N is usually just cosmetic & quick fix to get it back on the road. All the best!
  14. 5 Services works out around £415 for each service. I think the price quoted is quite high,no real discount in there. Does it include the annual MOT test fee? The general theme with servicing is that its nothing more than an oil change, oil filter, air filter, pollen filter, maybe the brake fluid if they feel like it usually every 2-3 years. A general report of a health inspection that is conducted on the MOT test anyway. The bonus you get from servicing within a dealer network is the Lexus Relax warranty & the service book is attractive to a buyer when it comes to selling it. + the Hybrid battery warranty. (Although to be fair they are not known to go wrong) Spark plugs usually at 60k intervals. Differential fluid usualy every 30-50k (but dealers are known to skimp on this). Note dealers dont clean the hybrid fan and filter either. Its not a bad price just not a great price try to negotiate a little. *If your doing the mileage the 100k service should include the coolant flush for the radiatior & inverter flush, spark plugs at a minimum. Certain dealers will always try to sell you extras like Air con recharge & anti bacterial flush. Brake jobs, tyres, etc etc. Just be careful you dont get done over on the 'extra' work usually cheaper from a labour cost perspective from a reputable independent garage. If your on a tight budget buy the service kit yourself from Lexuspartsdirect. Get an independent garage or DIY. & Just pop into Lexus once a year only to do a health check on the battery & extend the High voltage hybrid battery warranty If im not mistaken its £60. This way you still have the 'Genuine Lexus' service invoices for the parts you purchased. Saving maybe upto £1000 over the 5 years. https://lexuspartsdirect.co.uk/product/lexus-is300h-phase-3-service-kit/ Keep us posted pls.
  15. Try this Spray paint from Halfords. Remove alloy wheel from the car. Key is prep that goes into it mask around the tyre rubber sidewall, sand down alloys, clean up the dust, primer & spray paint, for best results use a quality Lacquer for the gloss shine. Ideally on a hot summers day unless you have the Luxury of a garage weather doesnt really matter. https://www.halfords.com/motoring/paints-and-body-repair/specialist-and-decorative-paints/halfords-wheel-paint-anthracite-spray-500ml-204573.html
  16. +1 Avoid using high pressure washer to mitigate the paint flaking.
  17. When safe to do so on a roll obiding by the law (cough) get to around get to about 50-60mph knock it into Sport, shift down to S3 & give it acceleration upto a certain speed. Only the Lexus Senseis will know what is going on mechanically the CVT box I believe only has the one gear but the way it takes off is quite impressive it does rev out or appear to rev out the evidence on the rear bumper on a white car shows its cleared its lungs out small particles of soot if you look hard enough. I usually do this once a month before im about to fuel up so not feeling too guilty about MPG. P.S im all for eco driving but this motor has best of both worlds.
  18. It is down to how deep your pockets are of course. In terms of economy most cars will see poor MPG in traffic conditions simply because of continuous stop & go. The key is maintenance. If your genuinley worried about long term reliability rest assured you have bought the right car. You Just need to look at Taxis in service Prius etc. Lexus/Toyota will do mega miles providing you maintain it. Without getting all scientific as long as your changing the engine oil & filter to the manufacturer recommendation under 'Severe' conditions If im not mistaken it is 5000 miles rather than 10,000 you will have no problem. Engine oil degrades with continuos warmup cycles. Keep the oil changed regularly if your doing strictly low miles or short runs you will not or should not have a problem I have stuck by this rule & havent had an engine cause me any issues yet. When I was in the trade I have seen examples where owners are more likely to corrode the brake discs, & exhaust systems because of extremly short runs because they dont get upto temperature regularly before the engine gives you trouble. Not to mention carbon build up but this engine is not known to suffer from these issues as yet. Get it upto temperature & give it a regular Italian tune up keeps it running beautifully.
  19. If you use the heating or heated seats you will notice the engine will come on & stay on regularly more to preserve and recharge the battery recharging slowly using the engines power & to give you heat from the engine. The reason its switching the engine off when in Eco is because the 1st opportunity it sees based on specific parameters being met its switching to EV (Electric) as soon as it can its reserving power/fuel when idle same as any other car equipped with stop start tech. Petrol engines will generally warm up well within 2-3 miles, depending on how long your sat idle & how cold it is for the temp to drop is quite normal. The petrol engine will automatically kick in as & when it needs to.
  20. I recently purchased a set of ebay & DIY installation, less than £20. https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/174613145212?mkcid=16&mkevt=1&mkrid=711-127632-2357-0&ssspo=pfWVgpugSlK&sssrc=2349624&ssuid=m3fnkB75QhS&var=&widget_ver=artemis&media=WHATS_APP In regards to fitting it is a straightforward job: - Fronts are held on by 1 plastic rivet & a 10mm nut (Turn the wheels for more access) - Rears had to take the wheel off to drill a hole held on by 3 screws. There is a post re mud guards we discussed on the ES300H group. Highly recommend to fit a clear paint protection film for the front guards where the guard meets the paint on the front wing simply to reduce rubbing or dirt getting trapped causing potential rust long term. Here are mine fitted.
  21. Thats interesting I was told its a way of saying sorry for the inconvenience & thank you hence the free fuel. To be fair I didnt quiz it any further other than say well Thank you. Lexus Stockport do not seem to be partnered with another firm like Inchcape etc. They appear to be independent Lexus/RRG Toyota group maybe they receive a bigger budget pot. Havent had a great experience from Leicester Lexus part of inchcape. The traditional/independent Lexus branches seem to stand by their values.
  22. I have had good results with Mothers Mag & Aluminium polish. Great for polishing headlights too. Small tub approx £10.
