  1. Should try them with a Scots accent!
  2. So my understanding of the German motoring laws is that you are fine to mix Winter and Summer tyres in the summer, this is based upon my brother research as he's lived in Brandenburg for the past 5 years and took his own UK car over initially. However, in the winter you must have winter tyres on the steering axle and either winter or all season on the rear. Although the law is changing in 2024 to require full winter across both axles. Although he doesn't know anyone that doesn't run with full winters once the weather starts to change.
  3. I only started getting the EV info at the weekend after I added more details to the account. When you open the profile tab it should have a completion status percentage just under your name. Mine was around 50% before adding personal details and address, now it is at 86%. Which seems to have been enough to open a couple of new functions. (Google Pixel 5 for reference). We will be doing Ijmuiden to Munich in September, then pottering about the foothills in Bavaria for a couple of weeks before heading over to Dresden and back to the ferry. Will be interesting to see what we get at European motorway speeds. My last run down to Dumfries from Glasgow was just tipping over 50mpg, sitting just north of 70. I reckon there is more to come from it as I'm running on the Factory Dunlop Sportmaxx on the front axle and Michelin Crossclimate 2s. I know it is a cardinal sin to run two different tread types, we will have a full set of the Crossclimate 2s on once back from Germany ahead of the winter. (We had a puncture and basically had to take the first decent tyres we could find due to needing the car that day.)
  4. That was the first GP in a very long time that I have felt invested in it, wheel to wheel, 4 abreast at times. It was like watching it back in the 3L era again, something that has been missing for a very long time. Watching the Red Bulls and the Ferraris going at it on the restart without race control stepping in is exactly what we've been missing. I'm genuinely astonished that Zhou not only survived the crashed but, was released from medical care midrace.
  5. So far it has been a case of overpromising and underdelivering. They came out as they said they would. They admitted their tech had clearly broken the clip and a new part would need to be ordered. I was told it would be in on the following Tuesday, I had heard nothing by Wednesday lunchtime so gave them a call. I had the promise of a call back by midday Thursday. It felt as if the call handler couldn't wait to get me off the phone and they were working in an incredibly noisy call centre. No call back, so on Friday I called them only to be told the part still isn't in and they would call me when it is. I'm going to give them another couple of weeks, if nothing back by then they'll be getting told Glasgow Lexus will be fixing it and they can cough up the cost. As the car is due in for a service at the start of August anyway. Incredibly disappointed by the service so far from RS Connect.
  6. Had exactly the same issue, was mentioned by an incredibly helpful poster (sorry can't remember who) on another thread. Basically you need to move your drivers seat to all its outer limits so the car learns where they are. i.e. As far forward/back as possible, max/min height, full recline in both directions etc. Once the car learns where it is able to place the seat you should then be able to set the memory seats. Only takes a couple of minutes to sort. Also within the menu system, you may have noticed this whilst hunting for a solution, you can set whether the seat goes back fully, a little or not at all after turning the engine off.
  7. Have noticed in the blurb written about MY23 that they are implementing a "Hey Lexus" system. I'm guessing the voice commands for the heater controls aren't available on the MY22, only Radio/Nav? It was something I was quite looking forwards to on the Mk4 VRS we had ordered prior to cancelling and buying the ES, mainly because everything was controlled via the touchscreen. Whereas thankfully Lexus are still being sensible and keeping fan controls on the dash. I must admit I only came across the fact the car had voice commands yesterday whilst driving on backroads so didn't really have a chance to explore them on ours.
  8. I'm giving them the opportunity to sort it, if not they'll be footing the bill for Glasgow Lexus to fix it. Will be going in for a service in late August, so should know by then if the fix is holding up hopefully.
  9. We went via Nextbase to get the 622GW plus rear shooter. We also used their fitting service, which is actually RS Connect who come out to the house. I didn't want to pull a £45k car to bits myself as my track record with electrics isn't great. Everything was fine for a few weeks then just before we went to Ireland I noticed the trim on the passenger side pillar was looking a bit odd as if it had popped out. So I pushed it back together and all was fine for a day or so. Now it is hanging down and the glue/resin inside is completely ruined. I've given then a chance to come back and sort it properly, which hopefully they will on Friday next week. One thing that has concerned me with their after sales service is that they left me a voicemail which was clearly for someone else. They mentioned about an engine management light being on since the camera was fitted. Now I'm wondering what they've done to someone else car! The 622GW itself appears to be working properly and I'd absolutely recommend it as a unit. The sound and video quality really is excellent. Sadly the fitting service has left a bad after taste. Pictures to show what we're currently sat with against how it should look.
  10. Just back from doing the guts of 1000 miles from Glasgow down the coast to Cairnryan and then anticlockwise around Ireland to Westport, before cutting back across the middle and back up to the north of Dublin. Most our drives were roughly 2 hours, one thing I noticed was the economy just kept climbing and climbing the longer the trip. Most of the time we were returning c56-58mpg. The Irish speed limits absolutely suit the car jumping between 80-100kph on the main A road equivalents. In the flatter central belt however we had this stellar run between Center Parcs Longford and the Battle of the Boyne Museum. (Travel tip: we wanted to see the Neolithic stuff around Newgrange but, it was all fully booked well in advance!) Our average speed was killed by a couple of longish waits for roadworks. Managed that running with A/C on (set at 19.5), cruise control and running on regular 95 as our tank of V Power was long gone by then.
  11. From the perspective of having sold Toyota's for about a year back in 2017. The smaller the engine the less refined they were. I think there are two causes. Firstly the smaller engine having to work closer to their limits more often. The second part is the lack of sound insulation the lower down the range you go. The Yaris 1.5 was like driving a boat if you asked for anything more than dawdle pace. The Auris wasn't too bad with the 1.8, however the C-HR was pretty poor with the same setup. Lexus have obviously made a point of working hard on refinement with the ES300h. I rarely notice the engine moo unless climbing steep hills or overtaking. Even then it is nowhere near what you'd think reading the reviews. The mainstream motoring press in my opinion are incredibly lazy with their reviews. VAG also pay for a ton of advertising space which helps keep them afloat. Some of the worst cars I've had were from the VAG stable, albeit the worst by some stretch with a 2016 Mini Clubman.
  12. Agree with the above, have found the switch from the Astra (1/2m shorter) / Swift (1.1m shorter) surprisingly easy. Reversing and Parallel parking are a doddle thanks to the camera and dynamic lines. It does take a little bit of getting used to swinging into space when going forwards but I'm starting to get the hang of it after a couple of weeks. Main thing is to trust your instincts, but keep in mind what the car is also telling you.
  13. Thanks Tony, problem solved and the seat are now setting as well!
  14. Feel like I'm missing something glaringly obvious. I've had a look through the menus and can't see anyway to change the system to also set the seat position with the mirrors. Have pushed the menu button and been into the settings menu but couldn't see anything in there.
  15. Is this your way of telling me I'm still needing to exorcise the boy racer inside? 🙃 I find it can be a little over zealous at kicking in, have mentioned it in the niggles thread. Corners I can comfortable take at much higher speeds can trigger it. There is a long sweeping corner that requires a couple of adjustments mid corner near us. With one of the adjustments to tighten it can trigger the drop in power. It doesn't seem to matter which drive mode you have set as I've tried them all through it. There are obvious benefits to the system however, and I would absolutely appreciate it on roads I don't know.
  16. Out of interest do you use the spray on stuff or the stick? Have been building a basket of car care stuff and it isn't a product I normally use as I'm reliant on public jet washes and the odd mobile valeter. One thing I noticed at the weekend is there is a sort of period just after dusk where the car is happy enough to put on its own lights and use auto high beam. However, it struggles a bit with halogen headlights in the distance as it just isn't quite dark enough to pick up their beams. We have quite a few long straights on the backroads near us, which is where I noticed that. Its a niggle as I can easily just tap the end of the stalk.
  17. Picked ours up last night (ex-demo / registered in Nov). Gave it a decent run down to the coast over the back roads yesterday and grabbed a couple of pictures at lunch there. Absolutely love it and genuinely makes me smile driving it. The only niggle is the overly cautious cruise cutting in on fast corners to dip the speed a little.
  18. Out of interest what fuel do you guys run on, and is there a noticeable difference in either economy or performance if you switch between regular and premium? We are coming out of two cars in to one. The 1.6T (200) in the Astra is a completely different animal on premium than regular. I can easily get an extra 4-5mpg out of it and it runs a whole lot smoother. It isn't surprising as the book recommends premium for that engine. Whereas my wives Swift 1.2 (83) is negligible, you might get 0.5mpg if you are lucky and there is zero difference in performance.
  19. Having just canceled and order for an Octavia VRS I can confirm the VAG are in a terrible state with their orders. We ordered in October 2021, and still hadn't heard if the order was even accepted by the factory last weekend. There are people on the Briskoda forum who have been waiting since early last year and have production dates in 2023 now. When speaking to the dealer about the ES, we were told it would likely be into early next year for factory builds. Hence why we went down the demo route, which turned out to be great for us given our ceiling was £40k due to luxury car tax coming in at the point. There really is a perfect storm in the industry at present. The war in Ukraine may have an indirect effect as Odessa produces the majority of the world's neon gas, which is required for the lasers that produce semi conductions.
  20. Thanks, the comfort and economy really played a massive part in winning us over. Without even trying to be frugal we were just shy of 50mpg on a mixed test route. That included playing about with all the setting, giving it the beans on the motorway a couple of times to get a feel for how it picks up and then through relatively busy streets in the East end of Glasgow with a fair bit of stop start at traffic lights. It is a shame we couldn't stretch to the Takumi as those rear seats were tremendous in the showroom model. One thing I didn't notice was whether or not it had front fogs. It is equipped with the triple eye LEDs so I am assuming one of those beams mimics them?
  21. Hi all, first post in the ES forum. We're picking ours up later this week and weighing up camera options. We sold our Astra last night which had a Nextbase 522GW (+Rear) hardwired in, so ideally this would be the route to go down again, although I am tempted by the 622GW for crisper footage. It is obviously no substitute for a proper camera, but we are planning on travelling round the West coast of Ireland in June and then down into Bavaria, Switzerland and Austria for a couple of weeks in September. One of the things I have came across is on the Halfords website they state they currently cannot fit to any Hybrid/Electric vehicles. I'm assuming this is a liability thing from their part? Nextbase have said it will be absolutely fine when I emailed them yesterday. The prices I am seeing through their website look roughly on par with what Eastern Western are charging for the Lexus Nextbase system. The only mild grumble I found with the 522GW over 3 years was the 3M sticky pad eventually gave up the ghost, so our car alarm was set off a couple of times recently before we realised that was the cause. However, kudos to Nextbase as their replacement cost peanuts and was delivered within a couple of days of ordering. The parking mode on it is pretty decent as well, even when the car was sat for months during the lockdowns it never once flattened the battery. It has also caught a couple of cretins in the past trying car doors when I've been parked at the football.
  22. Hi all, Thought I would come on and say hello, picking up an MY22 ES300h F Sport later in the week if all goes to plan. I worked for Toyota for a year or so back around 2017 so have a fair idea about the previous generation of hybrid tech but, it is still like stepping into a spaceship coming out of a mid spec '68 plate Astra SRI so will no doubt have a few questions along the way in the ES sub forum. Our dealer in Glasgow have been excellent so far, it is probably the most relaxed I've ever felt buying a car. We bought their demo as were advised of the long waits, which seems to be the norm across the industry just now. Our reason for going for a look on Sunday was simply down to having had an Octavia VRS on order since October last year and still no whiff of a production date, with people on the Briskoda forum who ordered a good few months before us now being quoted Q1 2023 it was obvious the wait would be long. My analogy for comparison after the test drive was "It isn't so much a missile as a very nice place to be" which suits us down to the ground given the road trips we have planned into Ireland and Southern Germany later this year.
