  1. Sorry should have read the title properly, VFR pre VTec then.
  2. 600 or larger versions of the Fazer or Bandit? I've owned both 600 and 1000 Fazers and had a 1250 Bandit never had a VFR but rode a friends, nice bike. Bandit - best engine, so much torque and so smooth, finish a bit poor but that's Suzuki. Fazer 600 95 bhp 1999 version, absolute hoot so easy to ride but budget suspension soons gets tired and engine finish not great 2003 Fazer 1000, revvy, smooth and bloody fast I wish I'd never sold it so that's where my money would go. Try FOCU website (it's not rude).
  3. One of my main reasons for buying the IS is for the reliability, I know many BMW and Audi owners who boast about good fuel consumption and then have to.shell out on expensive bills for non service items. My original IS 200 did 67k in three years and never missed a beat I hope the 250 follows in its footsteps.
  4. Mine has averaged 36.1 since I've had it over the last 10k although the real average is 34 as the computer is optimistic. I find colder weather drops the average by a couple of mpg but running the climate control seems to have little effect on the fuel consumption so it's on all the time. You don't buy a 250 for fuel economy, you buy one because you can.
  5. I didn't think Audi had a bad reputation for expensive running costs and reliability issues with their diesels? I know of plenty of high mileage 2.0 diesels at work that have been very reliable with big mileages.
  6. I'm not sure how you would be covered with your insurer if you fitted non-standard sizes? Unless you ask them? The only time you would find out would be during a claim which isn't a nice place to be. Personally I'd stick to the recommended sizes as Lexus intended.
  7. I would imagine a diesel would still be the best option for a mileage like that I would go for a top spec Passat rather than a BM both the cars and bikes seem expensive and unreliable. 20k will mean two services per year with an IS250 it's a shame Lexus didn't do a diesel auto with the 220.
  8. 40mpg on a run! What am I doing wrong? I'm a steady driver, the average says 34mpg over 5k but it's overeading by about 2mpg so 28 - 33 is more realistic. Still better than my old IS200 tho. My first auto, it won't be my last, cracking motor.
  9. Got my 2010 SE in October with 57k on the clock with a full Lexus Bristol service history. I've already done 5k with no problems, oil level hasn't moved and it sailed through the MOT the other week. It's a keeper.
  10. Nonsense, providing you fit the correct size, load and speed ratings then the road holding will be fine. If it was dangerous then it would be an MOT fail.
  11. The Goodyears have a lower noise rating than my Continentals and much lower than Bridgstones but the Dunlop SP 01's seem to have the lowest noise levels, has anyone tried them?
  12. Just discovered a slow puncture on my front off side tyre, great! Happy New Year. Anyway both fronts are down to 3-4mm anyway so I will change them both as I don't like doing single tyres. The question is what do I go for, should I go for Continental Sport 3's as fitted or another brand? I notice that newtyres are now noise rated and ideally I would choose something quieter to suit the cars composure, my other priorities are mileage and safety. Any ideas out there.
  13. Picked my IS 250SE-I tonight and have spent most of the evening trying to take the manual in :eerrrmm: ??? So much to learn compared to my old IS 200SE but what a lovely car, a real step forward, effortless driving with the auto box and such a solid feel with the build. Lexus really are one of the best kept secrets in motoring, thank goodness I never ended up buying a three series, how ever do you find yours in a car park?
  14. Just checked on the warranty direct website, 12 months for £455, it doesn't mention an excess on the policy, but I'm sure there must be? I have used them many years ago with a Ford and I was up in profit compared to them after the alarm went.
  15. The salesman was Robin at Harwell Jaguar. The IS250 had been a p/x for a new Jag. I know the car was in to Lexus Bristol today for the 60k service which is slightly early as the car has only done 57k but it's saved me £500 but I bet Harwells didn't pay that much. I didn't realise that the Lexus warranty expires at 60k which was a bit of a suprise, I may well go for an extended warranty if it looks good value?
  16. I took it out for a test drive on saturday, what a lovely motor. I managed to negotiate the price of the 60k service ( £512 at Lexus Bristol) with the salesman. So next saturday I will be the proud owner of a 2.5 year old SE-l auto, one owner full main dealer service history Lexus 250 for 13k. Result!
  17. To much on next weekend to go and see the final but I will be glued to the TV I think this has been one of the best years of BSB I can remember. I hope our local boy Mr Bridewell does the business! Maybe catch up with you next season?
  18. Welcome, good choice of car it should be as reliable as Jap bikes and you know how good they are. Were you at Silverstone at the weekend? What a superb meeting, BSB rocks!
  19. The servicing shouldn't be too bad on these due to them not having a cam belt to change. I suppose its coolant, brake fluid change and a full engine service? As my 2001 IS 200 was a company car I never had the pain of actually handing over my credit card for the services so paying for a major service could be painful! Would it be worth extending the Lexus warranty? All the write ups suggest that provided you don't neglect the 250 it will give many years of reliable service as this is a long term buy for me.
  20. http://www.hartwell.co.uk/used-cars/?lnk=101&orderby=0&perpage=1&makeSB=lexus&regno=WU10VUV I am hoping to get a test drive, if it's as nice as my old 2001 IS200SE then I think the wallet will be lightened.
  21. After having to wave goodbye to my IS200SE about 8 years ago I'm back in the market for another car. I really enjoyed the IS200 and I like the look of the IS250SE auto. My budget is up to 10k and I would be happy to buy private of non francised dealer, what could I expect to get within my budget range and what should I look for when buying? The IS200 did over 60k and was faultless apart from the alloy wheel corrosion
  22. 51 plate, 3yrs old at the end of Nov.
