  1. Don't believe the computer average mpg it overeads by at least 2 mpg. If you work on 30 mpg average you won't be far off and at least you won't get smelly diesel on your hands ;-)
  2. My mechanic said that the brake shoes on the rear hubs can become detached from the backing material. Chock the rear up and stick the auto in neutral check the wheels rotate freely, if not that could be the problem.
  3. After a 25 mile commute at 7 this morning my mirrors nearly didn't fold in when parking up this morning. No problems folding back out this evening as it was a balmy 3° in Gloucester.
  4. I've averaged 33mpg over 20,000 miles but I don't do any city driving and nick the wife's car for short journeys. I find the longer your journey the better the consumption, using cruise control also helps your average.
  5. As im bored ive just done the maths. If you get a 50 mpg diesel you will be spending about £1050 on fuel per year. Keeping the IS at an average of 30 mpg you would spend about £1630 on petrol, no brainer then...
  6. 200 miles a week at 112p a litre is small potatoes compared to how much it costs to change to amother car. I follow my old mans principles, buy what you want and then run it into the ground, trouble is with an is250 if looked after will last bloody ages compared to rot boxes in the 80's. I might be retired before mine is worn out!
  7. Best wishes to all on here, a good bunch of fine folk indeed.
  8. The key is designed to get you in the car when the fob fails. I wouldn't try opening the fob with the key just prize apart with something thin, its very easy to replace the battery. On the coolant pump check where do you inspect for leakage? Is there a tell tail hole like on my old Sierra! Now that was a class car, shame about the rust. ;-)
  9. This cold weather has dropped my average down to 31mpg on mixed driving but at 113 a litre why worry just enjoy the comfort and heated seats :-)
  10. You should get a warning alarm if the key fob battery is low. No idea about diesel addatives sounds like loads of hassle compared to the 250 just fuel and go:-) Don't worry about the pump I just check fluid levels weekly, not sure if there is a low level alarm. As you have a diesel I would be more worried about the head gasket failing as this seems an issue with some cars?
  11. Mine is coming up for 80k, full Lexus history up to 60k and a minor service with a good independant at 58k so best get it done next time around.
  12. Must have been low torque settings on certain assembly batches all recalls are on the vosa website, i see there is also a recall on wiper blades.
  13. The only way to get the real mpg is working it out with each tank full and then average it out over time. The longer you have the car the more realistic the figure. If you get chance google fuelly
  14. I believe tyre make and type can make such a difference, I wish I had done some research before I replaced mine.
  15. Tyres can make a big difference. I fitted Pirreli P Zero Rosos which tramline much worse than the previous continentals not that happy with them as they seem noisy too.
  16. 40mpg from the 250!!! Down hill in neutral maybe. Over 20k mine has averaged 33, best ever was 37. These are real figures, the computer reads 2.5 mpg over
  17. Check your front callipers on the side thats pulling in. That happened to mine last year I ignored it and it siezed solid resulting in new calliper, discs and pads, painful! Dissapointing for a high quality car.
  18. Have a look at Honest John real mpg, bit more realistic than the manufacturers figures!
  19. Sounds about right to me Chris. The computer is about 3 mpg over optermistic so mine is averaging about 30 since owning the car about 12k. I'm a steady driver, my Aviva driving app told me so. ;-). But in a moment of madness with a heavy foot in sport mode you can see the needle moving! At the end of the day it's a heavy car with an old tech but reliable motor. Just thank your lucky stars you didn't but the diesel version.
  20. Poor soul. Can't say I've seen a Lexus at the side of the motorway before on my regular M5 runs, most of the time they seem to be either French or German cars, much as you would expect really.
  21. The 250 is ready for its 70k service, last one was the big one so not expecting too heavy a bill. Lexus Bristol have serviced it from new and seem to have done a good job looking and driving the car for the last 12 months and 10k of seamless fault free miles but Cheltenham dealer is nearer and easier for me, any advice?
  22. Just to add another potential to the mix have a look at the Triumph Sprints. The 955's are a real bargain, very capable bikes and the newer 1050 is a belter, I'd forgotten I had one of those as well.
