  1. I feel like Toyota recommend 0w20 for hybrids for a reason. 5w30 may be great for a regular gas / diesel powered engine that are on most of the time. The hybrids keep shutting off the engine so on a single city drive you engine starts and stops several times and needs thinner faster flowing oil when it starts back up. Personally I would stick with 0w20. Hybrids are a bit quirky with their fluid requirements. E.g you have to use a different non conductive compressor oil for the a/c. I think its best to stick with manufacturer's recommendations on oil grade.
  2. Maybe it's just me but i can hear a rattle not a ticking / tapping sound. Mine was a rhythmic tick. To me that sound from the video sounds more like a loose heat shield or something. Maybe remove the plastic cover and have a look. I think it does warrant further investigation.
  3. Im not sure about the ls600h but i had this on my is300h and looked into it. Turns out its normal and is the direct injection injectors. So a lot of modern Toyota engines have both port as well as direct injection and when the car switches to direct injection those injectors make a tapping/ticking sound as part of their normal operation.
  4. I think repairing the puncture is impossible if you've used the gunk. Im sure they're more than happy to sell you a new tyre.
  5. I think its down to whether the car has nav or not. I can only assume that the controller for the reverse camera lives in the nav unit for some reason and not in the entertainment unit. SE models that dont have nav cant seem to plug and play whereas others with the executive and up that have navigation can plug and play. Infact I managed to wire an aftermarket chinese camera to the factory connector in my executive without having to cut any factory wires or drill any holes.
  6. Yeah good point. Some of them may already be criminals with multiple records and who dont really care.
  7. I had something similar too recently where I was dropping a friend off at the station and the car behind mine parked up right next to me and started telling me off for blocking him when i stopped to drop off my friend. So i was like if i was really blocking you how come are you parked right next to me and telling me off? And I told him to FO and leave. He got very upset and was like "make me leave" . Agree I should have tried to diffuse the situation.. but it became a bit of an ego battle and things just escalated further. The guy got out of his car and tried to force open my door. I fortunately pulled out my phone started recording him at this point. Told him that he would be hearing from the police. He sat right back in his car gave me a death stare didn't say a word and drove off. Moral of the story pull out your phone and record them if things escalate.. Also make sure your door is locked..Under no circumstance do i recommend getting out of your car or trying to get into a physical brawl. If you record them they know you've got their face and number plate on camera and are unlikely to want to end up with a criminal record.
  8. As far as I am aware that is correct. The camber can't be adjusted. Also, if your camber is out by a bit i reckon you wont be able to tell just by a visual inspection. The suspension may look fine but may have bent slightly and hence not very obvious. Honestly I am not sure what the solution is though and if lexus have some way of fixing this. But yes if your camber is out your tyres will wear unevenly again. Also just pasting what my numbers look like from an alignment i had done last year.
  9. As others have said before there is no solution as this is not a problem. It's normal. Thats how brakes on all toyota hybrids work. If it bothers you one solution could be to increase the volume on the radio.
  10. Do any of you experience crabbing? I have the F-sport wheels with 225/40 18 on the front. The tyres are new(got them last year) Good year asymmetric 6. Off late given the cold weather ive been experiencing really bad crabbing when doing a U turn in the morning immediately after setting off. I hear loads of pops from the front tyre. It sounds like the pops you hear when they install new tyres and inflate it for the first time. Its not as bad after driving for a while (i assume the tyres warm up) . Is this normal? Also what impact does it have on the tyres? For others considering Good year asymmetric 6 this might be something to consider - i know they're summer tyres but if you dont plan to switch between sets during the winter might be worth getting all season tyres or potentially a different brand. Do other brands of summer tyres do this too in the winters? I haven't experienced this before on any of the cars i have owned also we have a honda jazz also with summer tyres but that doesn't crab is it because those are slimmer tyres?
  11. I have found that Japanese cars love to rust. I have a similar issue on both my is300h and the wifes jazz. The moment you open the bonnet theres tons of rust everywhere. Didn't see this on my last car an E class of a similar age. That was pretty spotless under the bonnet. Now how much of this is serious and detrimental I don't know. I had my car MOTd recently and got an advisory on brake lines starting to corrode. Also when i got the tyres replaced recently i noticed some suspension components looked quite rusted and rust was flaking off. On areas that i can reach i apply fertan with a brush or spray. The rest i just roll the dice and hope it will last until I sell the car.
  12. Glad that it worked out well for you. But most people with lexus cars under 10 years probably want to retain their lexus relax warranty in which case they have no opinion but to service it annually at the dealer.
  13. I did mine at 90k miles. Any competent mechanic should be able to change both the cvt as well as differential oils. The procedure to drain and refill is pretty much the same as on most other cars. As far as I recall there is no replaceable filter on the ecvt box so its a simple drain and refill and same for the differential. If getting it done independently please only use original fluids - especially on the gearbox as the gearbox contains the electric motors as well - use only Toyota WS oil. Preferably buy them online or over the phone from a dealer. Some dealers offer a shipping service for parts e.g lexus Swindon in the UK.
  14. My limited understanding is that the e-cvt box is very simple and the fluid is primarily meant to lubricate and cool unlike traditional auto boxes where the fluid also flows through narrow channels in the valve body and dirty oil can clog these narrow pathways leading to poor shifting. Not the case in the ecvt so the fluid should last longer. Lexus says its sealed for life but personally I don't buy that as all fluid that goes through heat cycles will deteriorate eventually and not perform as intended. The car care nut a famous youtube toyota technician thinks its ok to change it even at around 90k miles for an e-cvt if you go by that you should be fine at 75k if you want to prioritise other jobs and push this out by a few years. Also the manual says it needs to be inspected at 40k miles, not changed. If you go to lexus some dealerships might kick up a fuss about doing it. When i bought my car a year ago Lexus Twickenham told me not to do it because its a "delicate balance" of chemicals that must not be tampered with. I obviously didn't buy that because the workshop manual clearly has a procedure in place to change the ecvt oil and even specifies which fluid to use. So I went to lexus Hayes and got it done for £130.
  15. Yes its very easy. You just pull up the seat bench as described in this thread it just needs a strong tug upwards to unclip the seat bench. Then you will see a bolt at the base of the side padding undo this bolt and lift the padding upwards there is a metal hook that gets unhooked when you lift upwards no plastic clips to break. More detailed instructions are here in this thread
  16. I got that too btw... Didn't like it and ended up returning it. I mean its ok but honestly i didn't see myself using anything other than google maps/android auto. Everything else like ability to play spotify etc the car already has via Bluetooth and i much preferred the higher resolution and AMOLED display of my phone, it didn't make sense at £450ish. Id rather save and use that money when i need to upgrade my phone.
  17. 100% get the auto mirro folding module. I got that too from Ali express. Its very useful not only for automatically folding the mirrors but also you can just look if the mirrors are folded and tell if you've locked the car.
  18. I installed this and made an installation video on it a while ago. I bought it from Aliexpress though. Also I don't think the one I bought works on the fsport type display it does need the regular analog type gauge display. Not sure if another one exists that fits the fsport display. You can install it the way I did but you need thin hands and it can be a bit difficult. The other alternative is to do as is suggested in this thread which involves removing the seat bench, side bolster and then the plastic panelling. It might take longer but will give you more space to work with.
  19. If it has full dealership history and is a 2017. It probably has warranty on it. Lexus offers 1 year or 10,000 miles of warranty everytime the car is serviced at lexus. This goes on for up to 10 years or 100,000 miles. So unlikely you will have to worry about much. Not sure about how good an AA eval is but Lexus is probably one of the few brands a you can potentially take a risk with. As far as which variant to get. It all depends on how long you plan on keeping the car. If you plan on keeping it long i would recommend forking out the extra for the premier...especially because a lot of things you get on the premier variant cant be fit aftermarket e.g the Mark Levinson sound system, radar cross traffic detection etc. I have a 2014 executive variant and i often think it would have been great if i had just spent a couple of grand extra and bought the Premier variant because i plan on keeping the car for at least another 5 years. Like you my usage is very low and primarily in the city which is why the few moments i spend in it i wish i had all the toys possible. If budget is an issue I would say don't shy away from older cars 2016 and older cars for example have a lower tax than the 2017 cars and will be cheaper as well but might miss out on some upgrades that happened in 2017. Overall they're great cars quite frugal and reliable you can't go wrong really if you've test driven one and are happy with the way it feels and drives.
  20. I have always seen them use a spirit level to ensure the steering wheel is dead centre before they lock the steering wheel and make adjustments to the alignment. Perhaps the alignment place you used didn't do a good job? Maybe let them know that the steering wheel is not centered and see if they can remedy it. Else consider another centre and get the wheels aligned again but at an average cost of £80ish it isnt cheap. All depends on how bothersome it is.
  21. Hey mate thank you as well for the advice I think you are right the infotainment does need to be powered on with the camera receiving power as well so that the infotainment can detect it.
  22. Finally attempted this again today and woohoo it worked! So anyone with a 2013/14 Executive variant with nav can install an aftermarket backup camera without cutting any factory wires or drilling any holes. Which makes me wonder if the system actually outputs 12v or if these chinese cameras just function fine on 6v I just pushed in the wires into the factory loom following instructions from above (thanks a ton @Strenoob11@Strenoob11) and taped it up with electrical tape. Rather than using the RCA connector that comes with the chinese cam, i bought this https://www.amazon.co.uk/gp/aw/d/B0B15HXGFX?psc=1&ref=ppx_pop_mob_b_asin_title from amazon so theres no confusion Red is + and balck is - for the RCA. But this is not necessary and you could just as easily cut the RCA cable the chinese camera comes with but it might have different color coding ans some can have 3 or 4 wires. This one was simple and had just 2. Connected the power cable that came with the chinese camera - even that had clear colour coding red is + and black is - Plugged it in and it worked. The tricky part was routing the camera wire without drilling holes. But managed to pass the wire through one of the holes meant for a rivet that holds the plastic frame around the number plate light (see picture the red line shows the path the wire followed) the plastic frame is also held in by 4 10mm bolts anyway so its ok to exclude the plastic rivet. I had to cut the camera wire and re-join it after passing it through the hole as the hole is too small to fit the power and rca connectors that the chinese camera comes with. Alternatively look for a cameras that have the thinner 4 pin connectors Instead of the big bulky rca style connector. But you will need an adapter to convert it back to rca. I just stuck the camera using double sided tape but plan to use the metal adjustable frame that it came with as i think it currently points too high. Here is the camera I bought. You could buy any of the many Chinese ones out there... But this one definitely works. https://www.amazon.co.uk/gp/aw/d/B0C69N4BMQ?psc=1&ref=ppx_pop_mob_b_asin_title
  23. Just out of curiosity why do you say the battery is weak? I mean what symptoms is this based on? It sounds like the Hybrid battery is fine. Inconsistent speedometer readings and a check engine light is a classic symptom of a bad wheel speed sensor. And if the hybrid battery was bad it would tell you "check hybrid system" or something of that sort and would also be picked up on a scanner. If you want a second opinion then perhaps take it to lexus. A hybrid health check is free with a service or costs ~£50 or so if you want to get it done separately if it passes the hybrid health check you can get warranty on your hybrid battery for up to 15 years. The only condition is you need to get a hybrid health check once every year cant remember if it was unlimited mileage or up to 150000 miles. So might be a good investment if you plan to keep the car for a while and you meet the conditions set out. That being said your symptoms don't sound like a bad battery.
  24. Thanks so much. The OP managed to do it using the factory loom so perhaps I'll try that and if that doesn't work either then il look into a 6v to 12v converter
  25. Hey thanks for this. I connected the camera power cable to the reverse light. I thought that should suffice given the factory loom outputs 6v whereas the Chinese cams need 12v? Can you let me know where i should power the camera from instead?
