  1. Got it. It might be trim level specific then. My executive doesnt do it and i have manual seats. Its something i really use a lot to avoid curbing the wheels but since i do it manually now i keep forgetting to correct my mirror when driving its such an annoyance.
  2. Could be if you look at the IS series as a supercar 😛
  3. Looks like that full from has been debunked but they do confirm that the misnomer does exist https://www.lexusofparramatta.com.au/about/blog/what-does-lexus-stand-for
  4. Lowering mirror when in reverse seems super useful to me. Has anyone tried it to see if it works? Or is it model specific? Id gladly pay to have that.
  5. Rumour has it that LEXUS actually stands for Luxury EXport for the US. Not sure how far thats true but given how unimaginative companies can be with names i wouldn't be surprised if that were true.
  6. I have a Yuasa 3000 on my is300h and its great. It works fine and i primarily do short distances so not a lot of time in ready mode. Certainly not 30 mins every day. I went on vacation for 3 weeks and when I was back it booted the system right up. On the other hand i hear of original batteries dying after 2 weeks of no use. I am not sure how important it is to vent this battery though because the venting tube doesn't fit the battery and is just left hanging.
  7. Largely depends on your usage. But i would recommend staying away from diesels unless you do lots of motorway miles. Given strict emissions standards diesels tend to have filters to capture and burn particulate matter. In order for this filter to effectively burn the particulate matter the filter needs to reach very high temperatures that typically only happen with long high speed driving. If not these DPFs tend to clog up over time. Diesels can also have their EGRs choke. If you're going to do short trips infrequently get a petrol it will be cheaper and easier to maintain.
  8. Yeah sorry mate but your summary is accurate. Diesel cars in general are only economical if you do regular long distances. If you use your car occasionally and at low speeds just around the city go for a petrol or hybrid they will be fairly reliable and provide decent economy. I had a mercedes e class and got rid of it because of ULEZ but was always worried about the dpf and egr clogging up or turbo failing. I use my car mostly in the city for short distances so got a hybrid now and am happier. Given my low use i fill up once in 3 months. With the merc it was every month as every weekend i would do an unnecessary motorway run just to keep the dpf clean.
  9. Sounds like we had the same problem. I've read of numerous others having it too. I think the 2013 - 14 models (mine is 2014) probably had a design flaw with the belt that caused the bearings to go bad eventually. I know they updated the belt (it now has a new part no) but i think the pump remains the same (at least the part no) .
  10. I agree. Personally I think the Australian model is great where compulsory 3rd party is covered by the government as part of the registration / tax or whatever you pay when you register the car and the only insurance people purchase is the optional first party. Its somewhat like how healthcare works with the NHS here Given that insurance is compulsory and we only have profit oriented private players to choose from opens us up to exploitation just like healthcare in America.
  11. I did look at getting it done at an indie but got a quote of £380 (they probably gave me a general quote given their experience with other cars) when in reality its much easier to do on the is300h. Also there was no toyota / lexus specialist within commuting distance from me so the quote from Lexus Hayes seemed like my best bet. But £270 sounds good the £50 premium i paid at lexus isn't too bad either considering everything in London has a mark up. Just out of curiosity what went wrong with yours? And how old was it? Mine was at ~90k and had a small leak at the bearing. No major coolant loss or anything but the pump had a pink crust around it. So got it done for peace of mind.
  12. I had mine done a few months ago at lexus hayes in London it cost me £320 for a new waterpump + new belt + coolant + labour. Lexus Twickenham wanted £428 so if you plan to get yours done i recommend getting quotes from different Lexus service centres.
  13. Not a 100% sure but i think there are different types of nav systems. The more premium ones have this feature the basic ones dont. I remember test driving a premier which had the speed limit of the road displayed but my executive doesn't display it. I looked through the settings but couldn't find it and eventually gave up - one of the main reasons i just use Google maps on the phone.
  14. Do keep us posted. Also was it easy to do? Are the instructions in the box?
  15. @rayaans whats with the anger and personal attacks on Linas dude? Theres no need for it. He is entitled to his opinion irrespective of however ill-informed or unbalanced you think it is. Providing a blanced opinion just to please you wont change the fact that the ES doesn't sell much. I think he did a good job of explaining why that might be. You can choose to ignore things you don't like rather than being petty on a public forum.
  16. Personally i have a Yuasa as well in my is300h but I think the reason to go for original is that Yuasa are still wet lead acid batteries while the original one is an AGM type battery. I think it's designed to charge faster and also in case of a crash theres no acid to spill out.
  17. Insurance is crazy right now. Had a mercedes e class last year and paid around £800 for me and my wife (new driver) in London. Got an IS due to ulez and despite it being a car of a smaller class my premium was close to £1100 if you have mods god help you.
  18. Naah its super simple. You can do it with basic DIY skills. Just follow one of the videos online. All the clips come off quite easily. The only part i was a bit concerned about before I gave it a try was pulling out the entire rear plastic trim but even that came off quite easily.
  19. Id say do it. Give it a go you will feel good about doing it once you've done it. Mine is a 2014 with 90k and the dirt build up was significant. Below is a before and after of the fan i took the fan apart and cleaned it thoroughly but feel like you'd be good even if you just clean the filter.
  20. Yeah unlikely then as you would have had rough running, low power and other symptoms. I just re-read your post sounds like you've already narrowed it down to no ground pulse to the injectors? Perhaps a bad injector power relay? The other issue as someone else suggested could be the immobiliser do you have another key by chance? Worth a try. Else it could be the ECU.
  21. Do a compression test. If you're sure you have air fuel and spark the only other thing i can think of is the valves are leaking / not sealing completely with the seats.
  22. But the problem with not declaring tints is the insurance companies will try and use that to void your policy as you are in breach of contract by not declaring it. It doesn't matter if you dont intend to claim replacement tints in case of an accident.
  23. In their infinite wisdom they would argue that it makes your car look fancier and hence more attractive to thieves.
  24. I second this. I called my insurance company and they do not consider it a mod infact when buying new insurance online if you look at the mods section there is no option for coloured calipers. Also if you select brakes they will assume you mean the brakes have been upgraded not painted. Also as an average joe i cant be expected to know everything that counts as a mod unless the insurance company clearly spell it out or make a list of everything. In fact my insurance company didn't even charge me for having F-sport alloys on the executive. They were like as long as its original lexus wheels we dont care. Where as if i declared this mod on a comparison site like you say the prices were eye watering. Also sounds like you can play dumb about small things like alloy wheels etc. and get away with it if you want to. Ofcourse if it was a major mod like wrapping your car in a different color or a loud exhaust etc. where it would be easy to prove you deliberately hid information you cant play dumb. See case study 5 in the motor insurance section of the financial ombudsman website. So clearly there is precedent. https://www.financial-ombudsman.org.uk/data-insight/insight/insight-in-depth-underinsurance-misrepresentation-non-disclosure
  25. I agree it does not make sense at all. A no claims discount in my understanding is a discount because you areconsidered a safe / experienced driver as you haven't crashed all these years so you're statistically at a lower risk of crashing - so it should be tied to the driver. Not like im safer in one car vs another. They cartelised and just made up the rules as they went along.
