  1. Oh Bob, that is the car that actually triggered my question at the start of the thread. I did not recognise the colour nor did the description of Beige make it any easier. So, it is Kalahari Sand , but perhaps also called 'chardonnay'.
  2. Rishi takes axe to Tory green plans warning current 2030 target would cost families £15,000: PM delays ban on gas boilers and petrol and diesel cars, scraps plans for seven bins per home and says there will be no extra tax on flights or meat Hard to believe they have taken these steps. Could this possibly be a start to something new where common sense finally prevails over blind ideology.
  3. "with the 3.9 as it is a rocket" <cough> Stew used it on my test drive in his car. I believe it would be inappropriate to fully print what came out of my mouth when he hit it. It was some form of expletive prayer to god to watch over my soul. I fully agree that throttle controller just transforms the performance. Thanks by the way for reminding me about the eco mode. had completely forgotten it had that.
  4. Personally, if the MOT history was deep enough and data consistent I would be inclined to put less weight on the absence of service history. Indeed, for not lot of money you can put any other reservations to sleep by having the vehicle checked out as you suggest. I wouldn't scrimp on that though.
  5. Thanks Glynn. I suspect what is being called 'Beige' is actually the Chardonnay finish. As to the Lexus carpet logo I completely get it. Americans cannot read vertical script 😄
  6. The docs on mine show virtually the same data. 71,000 and circa 40k of those done in the first 3 years. Looking through the docs I appear to be the 4th owner. 88 ,well done mate. I really don't see me getting that far, but like you I'll take what fun I can get whilst I can still enjoy it. Forgive what may be inappropriate Northern humour ,but is there any chance I can get in the will for the SC430 ?
  7. Does anyone know if Lexus made the SC430 in Beige for sale in the UK. I wondered if it had been wrongly described ,but was really the colour called Eygptian Pearl. However, on the photos it doesn't really look like the latter. Yet I have never seen one in Beige either. So, don't ask, but I am looking into one for the wife if that is what it takes to keep her out of mine.
  8. I sat and gazed adoringly out of the window at mine whilst the Temptations played 'My Girl' in the background. So, today I was planning to Gummy Pledge the seals ,but had the Covid booster yesterday and today I have been boosted on to my back. Wiped out. It's just insulting really as I actually hold shares in Pfizer. Some shareholder return.
  9. You must be very pleased with her. From the bit that I can see your leather work is looking in particularly good condition. Have you done some restoring work on that, or is it just lightly used due to say low mileage? I think this blue colour really takes a good shine. In fact the only other colour that might just get me in buying mode is the Anthracite Grey that someone just bought on here recently (only one I have ever seen). Coupled with a tan ,or ecru interior that would be super appealing. However, there is a lot to be said for the black leather in pragmatic terms of daily usage. Do you drive it as your main car ,or do you just reserve it for fun days?
  10. I hear Betsy is getting lawyered up looking for a settlement of at least a fleece lined car cover.
  11. Ken, Do we get some pics? What colour is your interior?
  12. Thanks very much Ronnie. The answer is yes. When an opportunity arises then ceramic detailing is on the agenda. However, in fairness the kudos at this time all belongs to Stew who sold me this car. I have done nothing ,but pay the man, and I am very happy to have done that.
  13. "to walk to the school barefooted in the snow, for 5 miles uphill... BOTH WAYS!". What an exageration. I actually cycled 6 miles each way and only the last couple were uphill. Moreover I had shoes albeit they had been worn by two other people before me. I think what you are trying to say is my story is parochial not reflective of society as a whole. Partially true, but probably only in so far as many other people had similar albeit different hardships to endure. Hoever, the underlying story is our times ,then and now, are just vastly different ,as opposed to better or worse.
  14. Well, apparently you now have some company. I think it would be great to swap comparatives on our experiences with them albeit mine of course is so very recent. Having said which I cannot recall ever having been so enamoured of a car as I am with this one.
  15. "So again intergenerational stuff is just reality". This is the heart of it really. Not a question of 'blame', but of what you think you know. You see at 70 I think you are probably going to understand that the things you think are 'reality' today are not. They are in the main just one of many different perspectives that exist on virtually any issue. All those 'good' things you think we had that you don't are nothing more than a distortion of what you think you know about how we lived in the past. A past that you have not experienced for yourself ,but have only really heard about. For example, was it a good thing for a lad to be up at 5.30 ,clogs on, up the hill onto the moor to cut some peat for the open fire that was the only sort of heat that we had. Or perhaps it was a good thing to scrape the ice off your bedroom windows ! That is ,the ice on the inside !. Or perhaps it was a good thing to go to bed with blankets which were always semi damp from the lack of heat. Or if you like your sugar finding it hard to get hold of. Don't get me wrong here there really was some fantastic stuff growing up back then, but there was some really crap stuff as well. Moreover, I am fairly confident the same can be said of today. So who had it, has it better ? Frankly , the only thing I am really sure of is we of different generations have had it 'different'.
  16. You know I agree with quite a lot of the points you are trying to make ,but then you go and spoil it with the intergenerational stuff. When and if you get to 70 I hope you can look back at this and laugh to yourself about the things you didn't know then. Meanwhile I am right onboard with your comments regarding restrictions to the way you wish to live your life. I mean come on here, the Welsh guy is well intentioned , but de facto he is the very definition of 'thick as a brick'.
  17. Been awhile since I bought new. However, last times there has always been a very detailed sales sheet showing all specified choices signed by them and me at the time of ordering so forgetting what was ordered has never been remotely possible. Do Lexus not do this?
  18. Well, I never, how did we not get to talking Northern Soul ? In no particular order, our haunts were Highland Room Blackpool, The Wheel, Casino and much less frequently Torch. However, for us the journey all started at the Wellington Keighley. Indeed, I was a touch gymnastic back then and we really won't talk about now ! Still going albeit it's more local now at Grasshoppers Club here in Preston.
  19. Not car related. Just heard we lost another one yesterday and it made me nostalgic for the passing of an era. So, In tribute to Michael. A Touch Of Velvet - A Sting Of Brass (The Mood Mosaic) - YouTube Music
  20. Scarce V8's , or EV's, oh which will hold their value better ? Sometimes you think you understand market trends and then they turn around, kick you in the nuts and deliver a lesson in humility.
  21. Actually ,in stockmarket traders speak, this sort of thing belongs in what is known as a 'thin' market. There can be very little movement in such markets, but unless there is a 'forced' seller to be found it has no implications for a 'weak' price.
  22. Actually Stew probably take you up on that, because when we visited you my wife suggested she would really like to come down and spend a long weekend or so on the N Wales coast. She had not realised just how accessible it was from Preston. I knew you'd polished it well just from the way the water behaved when I came to wash it. Anyway be nice to visit again. Enjoyed our chats. You remember I said my wife never liked driving anything bigger than a mini. Well she's just started talking about driving the SC430 ! I don't like the direction that conversations going. Pity you don't have another I could give her to play with.
