  1. Here's a suggestion - make the thread title match the content.
  2. The advice I've had to give to some Altezza owners is "do not fear the red-line". The 3S-GE generates its big power at the top end, I'm not entirely certain about the 1G-FE, but from the comments here it sounds like it's the same in this respect. I was surprised to find people that never revved their Altezzas, needless to say they're typically well impressed with the new-found power when they do. :)
  3. Unleaded 91, and 96 premium, only these 2 in NZ. ← No no, we do have 98 RON in New Zealand - go to the New Zealand Altezza Forums and discuss there. (Specifically, this thread) 98 is marketed by BP as "BP Ultimate" (link), Mobil has it as "Synergy 8000" (link). Shell's "Ultra Hi" is 95 RON Read more in this discussion paper. And on the fuel company websites: www.shell.co.nz, www.mobil.co.nz, www.bp.co.nz Does the RS200 Altezza's 11.5:1 compression ratio qualify as 'high'? For what it's worth I run 98. Edit: Yikes, just realised how old edwardch's post was, guess I'm not going to be a lot of help now...
  4. The owner seems to have a fetish for ventilation. Even to the point of doing that 'decapitation' mod of propping up the back of the bonnet. Just picture where that bonnet would go in a frontal...
  5. Sounds great, the km/l figure would help temper the lead foot effect induced by wanting to see that big tacho flying around! What happened to your total odo reading when you installed it? Is this figure stored in the cluster, or elsewhere in the car?
  6. What changes the readout from km/h to km/l and litres remaining? Is there a button on the cluster somewhere? The economy etc is all calculated by the cluster using the existing fuel, speed and rev inputs? What happening to your odo reading when you changed to the new cluster? Did you do the majority of the install yourself? Since it's a standard speedo I'm picking it doesn't remove the 180 kph limit like I believe the TRD one does? Could I possibly ask any more questions? <- hey, looks like I can. ;)
  7. Ah ha, thankyou Tony, now I can see that it's a owner satisfaction survey, the results now have some meaning. :)
  8. What was the survey of? What was the question they asked? I'm picking that being near the top is a good thing for whatever the survery was about?
  9. Awesome to see a methodical scientific approach was taken. Clearly you have an engineering background. :) I did the same with my old Primera, using four thermocouples and a datalogger. It's sad, but I enjoyed crunching the numbers. I don't have a copy of the results anymore, but they're on a couple of Primera/G20 forums... I've also done it on the Altezza, looking at the temperature difference when that flap in the intake opens above 4500 rpm.
  10. It's a massively common problem - did you try searching these forums for ERR3?
  11. Thanks for sharing Am, yeah, bummer about the audio and the chick at the start is a little cheesy... What do they mean by calling the Altezza's "old type NAs"? What's a "new type" NA?
  12. The stock gauge is electric and does respond very slowly. If your oil pressure was only rising as fast as the gauge does then you'd be hurting the engine.
  13. I'd hope everyone has already seen this, it's quite old - "Extracts of this article have been transcribed from a Japanese article featured in Revspeed Magazine, August 1999" I'm a little skeptical 'cause the Apexi unit seems to win so convincingly...
  14. That's almost like saying "The only downside to that chick is she's a bloke"!!
  15. TRD one shows you the speed in that digital display ............. ← If you say so. The one stodwyer speaks off has the digital speed, but I've got pics of the TRD one from a manual and an auto and it's only the auto that has the extra LCD section, just as the factor cluster does. Looking at the variety that's out there, I wouldn't be surprised if the one you speak of exists.
  16. The leather gives a minor squeek on mine when sitting in 6th... Nothing to be concerened about, just pull the leather out of the pinch point. You might be able to use the 'problem' to justify buying a short shifter since that will shorten the throw and lessen the pinching of the leather. :)
  17. Wikipedia Iridium Iridium is a chemical element in the periodic table that has the symbol Ir and atomic number 77. A heavy, very hard, brittle, silvery-white transition metal of the platinum family, iridium is used in high strength alloys that can withstand high temperatures and occurs in natural alloys with platinum or osmium. Iridium is notable for being the most corrosion resistant element known and for its association with the demise of the dinosaurs. It is used in high temperature apparatus, electrical contacts, and as a hardening agent for platinum. The KT event of 65 million years ago, marking the temporal border between the Cretaceous and Tertiary eras of geological time, was identified by a thin stratum of iridium-rich clay. A team led by Luis Alvarez (1980) proposed an extraterrestrial origin for this iridium, attributing it to an asteroid or comet impact near what is now Yucatan Peninsula. Their theory is widely accepted to explain the demise of the dinosaurs. Dewey M. McLean and others argue that the iridium may have been of volcanic origin instead. The Earth's core is rich in iridium, and Piton de la Fournaise on Réunion, for example, is still releasing iridium today.
  18. The whole point of the TRD cluster from my point of view is the central tacho... And yip, in this case that digital bit is just the factory display for the gears in the auto.
  19. Can't you just tailgate a mate who's driving at a known speed and check that way?
  20. Paint them with primer to stop the rust. Works great! ...until you use the brakes and all the primer peels off. If the discs sit unused for any length of time they will oxidise, faster if they're wet. It's unavoidable.
  21. I'm a little skeptical of the mkiv review... The Apexi seems too good to be true - the best of both worlds? Max filtration and flow? Anyways, assuming it is that good, I don't really like the way it's connected - there's still that concertinaed bit I don't like: The HKS, on the left, looks to connect to the throttle body in a better fashion... Are there any intakes that have the best of all three worlds?
  22. Double whatever you think is a reasonable price!
  23. You didn't by chance order an exhaust for an American IS300? IIRC they are slightly longer to accommodate additional intrusion protection so the exhaust has to be longer to reach far enough out the back...
  24. A picture is worth 1000 words - thanks for that 3007 word essay! :)
