  1. i`m getting confused now. how come this camera is not painted dayglo yellow with plenty of warnings etc as they do with the gatso cameras?????????????????? do they only have to advertise certain cameras? just for a laugh though i drove past a local one using a mobile, no seatbelt, eating crisps, reading advertsing signs, letching at women, fog lights on and side to side......'cos there ain`t no police on dem roads............. Please note, i may not have done this Mr. Online Watchdog
  2. It's the same with every country out there, not only America. Not having a go or anything but if you'd watch movies from any other country, they'd give you the same impression (ie: French, Indian, Spanish, etc). Although they vary in genre majority of the Sci-Fi/Spy/etc based movies are mostly based around the country the film originates from. ← Unfortunately that argument only holds true if we were inundated with french/indian/spanish programs, let alone scifi. Exactly how many of any other countries tv do we see in the uk compared to the american imports? And that alos misses the point of the argument about Mr American being in charge of the whole darn planet, with all other countries being left out because of the insular nature of the US, 'bless 'em. Even our very own Dr Who had plenty of our cousins in it, even the most recent series! But hey its not as if we`re their strongest/longest/staunchest allies, 'cos we make great screen villians........... :D
  3. doesn`t seem as enamoured of it as he was when test driving it for Fifth Gear does he? although he sums it up positively!
  4. the trouble with threshold is that it is based on a fictional planet called Planet America, which orbits around a Sun called "themselves" Don`t get me wrong i`m a BIG sci-fi fan, i`ll watch anything from the Tripods (remember that?) to Starscape/Fargate.............i love it all. But what is really starting to get right on my bazongas is the cursory refernce to the rest of the world. "Lost" has an international cast (granted that it is dificult to find an ugly one...), but anything ET related is all Yanks in charge, rest of the world would go into Chaos and Anarchy if they weren`t!!!! Only Atlantis tries to reflect that there are other countries outside their borders, and even that struggles at times.... Now you may argue that its their money, their tv program, they are the superpower, they control the airwaves, yadda yadda yadda blah.......... but then consider why most people are getting a tiny bit fed up with them, and why when they try to sell abroad very few of their output lasts long, considering quality to quantity? It was really, really, really noticeable in that first episode of Threshold how they view the rest of the world! If you ain`t American you must be a terrorist :D
  5. holy lexus batman, a car journalist who actually does a proper car review!! i`m beginning to rate this Tom Ford bloke as he comes out with proper ownership comments, and his reference to the 90%/10% driving was spot on. His other car reviews eg, flying spur, Rx etc have also been good...they tend to give you a better feel for the car rather than just quick Maxpower insight. Think he summed up all the qualities in the lexus is250 i found, but it would have been nice to give him some more time in his review slot! BTW, my love for VBH is unchanged, and she seems to be losing some weight...
  6. ← nope, no auto for the diesel. which is unfortunate given that my TD experience in the is250 was enhanced by the auto, especially as i never drive an automatic. I think its another case of a Lexus bizarre decision; certainly doesn`t do anything to pull in drivers undecided by bm/merc/audi etc!!
  7. no, i`ve run out of places to make sweet love to my car................ :shutit: :mat:
  8. good grief that absolutely sucks what a really nice man, talented driver and proper sporting chap. thoughts to family and RIP Richard what an injustice.
  9. He died yesterday aged 73 I think that's far sadder than something else............. Wax on Wax off RIP
  10. Which "rim" are you talking about, 'cos that could have been a case of new underpants!!!
  11. EXCELLENT thanks very muchly. Just to clarify further, the "large plastic cover" is the one with the "L" and stripes on it which the big sweeping sucky bit from the radiator connects to: p254 owners manual (the wife has got the car at the mo so i have to go by these limited pics!)
  12. To those of you who are engine experts i need a little help please, and maybe this might make a good thread that could clear up confusion for us plebs: If somebody said to you "THROTTLE BODY", what would that mean to you, what does it do and where in blazes would you find the damn thing? Please bear in mind you will have to talk to me like a child.............. :D where the gosh flippity is a engine bay diagram that lists everything other than the usual dipstick point?--and yes i saw the haynes manual posts, and no i`m not paying 200 quid........ :o
  13. apparently the bonnet "slamming" is a design feature tied in with the legal requirement to protect pedestrians............. does seem a bit 1970's though, so can`t say i`m convinced!!! Shouldn`t they be hissing shut on hydraulic closers like the boot on the RX? :D
  14. great footballer but not a great man r.i.p though
  15. we had exactly the same,; it was like a whack on the drivers side wiper downstroke, always at higher speed/heavier rain/wind. Drove us to utter distraction, but Lexus Leicester sorted it out by the same method--either it had "come loose" or just needed realigning. Give it an ickle twist and it should be ok
  16. absolute git.............. :D :D :D :D good topic, keep it up, lets us poor unfortunates (!) wallow in self pity. Don`t forget to put any negatives/impressions/oddities/superb bits in.
  17. i think he`s great, and he bagged kelly le brock...........the git. still, he`s tucking into those beefburgers now isn`t he??????????????!!!! :D
  18. boy oh boy oh boy was that glossed over!!! no mention of the lexus being in the top 3 for almost as long as the survey has been going............ they really don`t like anything other than the usual bm/merc/porsche/ferrari mix do they? Still it is called Top Gear and not Realistic Driving i suppose. :D
  19. but pumping out billions of tonnes of sulphur, carbon, cfcs into the atmosphere, dumping billions of gallons of chemicals into the oceans and stripping the land of carbon converting forests every year is just magicked away by the great pollutant *** CLarKSon. ITS NOT JUST GLOBAL FRICKIN WARMING THATS THE ISSUE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! i love the fixation by politicians that GW is whats going to kill the planet. People such as Mr.Morse are correct when they say the planet is heating up naturally--but the important word there is NATURALLY. Dinosaurs were not dumping mercury/cadmium, mining gold/copper, dumping oestrogen and surfactants into the water. And i doubt very much whether they had issues with asthma.......... The emphasis should not be just on GW, but on Global damage, because all this crap we`re pumping out has got to go somewhere!!!!!!!!!!!!1
  20. HHHHHHHHHHEEEEEEEELLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO is anybody out there? ECHO ECHO ECHO
  21. All, what with wifi, hdtv,bluray,3g, streaming this, dribbling that, i`m becoming deluged in alphabet soup................ with prices dropping thru' the floor for tomtoms etc from the likes of halfrauds and comets etc, i`m considering one based on the old gps stuff. However what is the crack with the portable gps stuff, ie you can put in on your bike, go walking with it and so on- is that better than a permanent car installed one? and also what about one of these PDA thingummies? They seem to be cheaper and you get the mp3/ officeish functionality of a portable pc/notebook. Is there somebody out there who can lgive in simple, easy to grasp list form the principle pros and cons of these devices----given that i can actually read an aa map and am computer literate, its just i can`t be bothered anymore trying to research all the stuff you need to have to make an informed decision-it feels like my brain is about to implode with all this technical wizardry/drivel.
  22. heard it`ll be a little while yet as they don't have enough stock yet--all the ones in are sale/demo vehicles. on a saw demo one in StonyStratford (from ye new MK Shoppe) being driven round, and although its silver you really can`t miss it!!! Godd road presence i say!! :D
  23. you certainly won`t be photoshopping that damage out. heart goes out to you fella, especially as we both know you`re going to have to cop for it. Bad luck, but i hope you see the mongrels soon with a blunt staple gun.....
  24. hopefully be getting the diesel very early next year........... :D as for the previous points raised by the Mole, i can see the arguments but i would counter thus: how many rear end collisions are the Lexus involved in worldwide, compared to the amount of shopping expeditions to get things that are too big for the boot? Especially given that it would have to be one hell of an impact to justify that :D ? It reminds me of that most recent story of the fact that builders/windowcleaners/decorators are not going to be allowed to go up ladders for more than 30 mins because it kills 2 people a year.................bees kill more than that; are we going to ban them too? Its overkill for the wrong reasons, and very much a case of cutting your nose off to spite your face, i would venture. as for the tyre noise, design is supposed to be holistic. If you are going to sell globally you have to take note of the local market conditions. We don`t have roads like the french because we don`t spend as much on them, have greater levels of traffic and have more damaging weather. ANd tyre noise is, i would venture, a fairly major source of noise in a car! You could say it would sound terrific on a racetrack, but that enters the J.Clarkson world of arguments where Bmws are the ultimate driving machines...............on tracks!! So by not having foldable seats just to kill environmental noise, they have just exacerbated the noise from the tyres!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! I`d have: foldable seats, more engine note noise, and a good music system, not small boot with non foldable seats, very little external "high level" noise but lots of "low-level" noise and a good music system---given that reasoning! :D BTW in no way having a go at anybody (we`ve seen how these posts get!), just saying that the proffered reasoning is wrong for my particular circumstances, that of a father of 2 who shops at garden centres, b&Q and sainsburys(thats me in a minority then :duh: -------but i`d still have the car way before getting a german or american car
  25. ermmmmmmmmmm, i was too busy faffing around with the paddles to notice a trip computer--but surely they are standard nowadays. and you are not pimping my ride sir with your ice systems----i`m not bloddy made of money you know...so the mark l will "have to do"................ :D :D :D and from prev posts, who needs rear vis when you have that amazing rear camera--was well impressed with that, can`t wait to see what the diesel is like, buts lets hope they get some cars over!
