  1. Read now in a few threads about removal of the pre cats. Ok understand the objective to be improved gas flow, better breathing = more power :D Does this not have a negative effect on emissions Also how about valve timing, surely reduced back pressure means the exhaust gasses come out earlier, is there not a danger of burning exhaust valves Or I am just being thick
  2. Whole thing now so where do we move it
  3. Ah one who would not only ban smoking in public places (I assume) would also have a total ban in cars as well On a serious note there are some who are not in control of their cars without the assistance of moble phones, cigarettes, cigars, pipes, crisp packets, sandwiches, cans of coke etc :duh: We could start a whole new thread on things that are potentially hazardous whilst driving? I know but back to the point. See previous thread on if detectors are any good regardless of legality.
  4. Agree with that. Does anyone think that they would actually manufacture cars here when they could make them for half the price back home?
  5. Here we go 1977 Yamaha FS1E Popsicle Purple (V Quick Moped) 1978 Yamaha TY175 (Still got it and it works!) 1979 1.1 Escort Van Red RS2000 wheels thought it was cool (Went to scrappies after seat went through floor on the M8!) 1981 1.3 Escort Estate Red with Green Tail Gate 1983 1.6 Cortina (diorrehha beige) 1985 1.6 Escort Estate Maroon 1987 1.8 Sierra Estate 1988 1.6 Cavalier (The one that burnt valves) 1989 1.9 (Diesel) Peugoet something 0h something (absolute C**p couldn't pull the skin off the proverbial, "limited edition" but had more gizmos on my trials bike) 1992 2.0i Sierra GLS Black (nice car) 1996 1.8 Mondeo Brit Racing Green sort of colour 1999 2.0 Omega Saloon Grey (cost a fortune when cam belt broke, twice!) 2002 IS200 Sport :D
  6. Where were we in the 50's Top of everything, bikes, ships, steel, cars, the lot. The first three went long ago and did we see the writing on the wall. Where are we now Over 50% of the working population are civil servants, probably 25% are making forms for the civil servants to send to us to fill in. The rest of us are doing computer somethings and not actually bringing money into the UK. When I started doing a degree in Mechanical Engineering most people said "oh so you can fix my car then" I started out in a noble profession where we in this country rated Engineers pretty low despite studying for 4 years, in other countries such as Germany an Engineer was rated almost as high as a Doctor. When I qualified I had a choice: Production Engineer on £7k or a Sales Engineer on £9k basic with a comapny Cortina, though choice. Wonder why we don't make anything anymore?
  7. I'm an engineer and got bits of paper to prove it. But sorry wrong way round and maybe why we failed. Find the market then engineer to it. Not engineer a good product then market it! As my old man used to say an engineer is someone who can do for 2/6 what any idoit can do for 10 bob :)
  8. Out of interest.... STS stands for ? ← Stapletons Tyre Services if i'm not mistaken
  9. Didn't say universal from Letchworth to Oxford. Direct Line always ask %BHP increase for any engine mods. Suspension has 2 cats "uprated and Sports" with DL Depends if you lie or don't tell the whole truth I suppose ← You mean i have to tell them that its lowered also? As if they dont get enough money from me already ← Yeh my PI's cost 90 quid on the insurance :o If you don't tell em bout ANYTHING not standard and they find they prob won't pay out :tsktsk: Thats how they are

  11. Spent about and hour on the phone to Direct Line tonight (40 mins talking to someone) and asked for quotes on various performance mods. From induction kit to s/c for IS200. During convo with helpful girl she said "I also have 11% to 20% increase in power". Cutting a long story short seems to work this way. % extra power - % increase in premium up to 10% - 15% 11 to 20% - 25% 21 to 30% - 35% 31 to 40% - 45% based on 35% extra for s/c This is +/- 0.5% so would imagine that this is fairly typical if anyone wants to use as a guide for mods. Always use the standard BHP as the base for % increase
  12. Design and commission communication systems for LUL and Railways. Anything 100v or less that's not signals is comms on the railways
  13. Kind of what I was saying Didn't mention the other stuff that sets it off like PELICAN Crossings, mobile phone masts? etc. The last one is from observation as it goes off in the middle of nowhere and there always seems to be a mobile base station around. Also detectors won't save you from VASCAR, TRUVELO, and any CCTV based systems using ANR All in all if you are buying one to save the last 3 points on your licence, don't bother. Slow down and wait for some points to come off your licence. Couldn't agree more constant vigilance is vital and we should be doing that anyway.
  14. Try this site INFO loads of information including latest on proposed legislation. They reckon that won't happen as time will run out before the next election. :D I got a Snooper S5 and it works, only problem is automatic door openers work on K band so if you go to a retail park it goes bananas. Kind of wish I'd got a Road Angel now as the GPS combined with detector gives fewer false alarms. Interesting bit about Laser Jammers on this site. Not illegal but they do you for perverting the course of justice.
  15. Where do you get this tool from? :D ← Draper tools do one Try Here search for stock no 37871. £12.90 for 1 :D
  16. I just wondered what you did to horses that made you need ginger biscuits :o
  17. This a great forum. I watched for a long time before getting involved. The club rules say it all R.E.S.P.E.C.T if you got nothing to say don't post. Also on the Honda Owners Club (old bikes) for about 2 years, if you need help it is at hand all members pool knowledge, same as LOC.
  18. Are you selling or trading in with Lex dealer. If selling he wants a cut of the profit off the new one you don't buy off him from you
  19. According to What Car worth £9750 trade in and about the same in Parkers. Private about 10.5. He is "Havin a giraffe" :D Anyway I would expect resale on IS to fall as more are coming on the market
  20. Thought clutch was hydraulic or "did I get it wrong again dad"
  21. And we worry about speed cameras! We can just hope not as bad as last one. Summed up well Peter "those poor people" makes you realise how lucky we are.
  22. No hahaha's required this time. only just managed to restrain my self in my state of juvenile over excitement and saved 4.95 in the process :winky:
  23. Thought as much. You could get reckless and buy the variable one for 30 quid don't wire it and have a nice dial thing on the dash:D
  24. Is this for real To check it out TRY HERE Seems too simple
