  1. I think Monster Mat should drive his full wack and when they ask him why he was appoaching warp factor 9 he could say "I'm just testing it m'lud"
  2. What does he know ? does he drive police cars with blue lights NO. He is too eager to critisise ... again. YET..... at 4.30am in the morning ............. if the road is clear, and there are no other road users.... there is NO NEED to put on the blue and twos ..... Yet, if you put them on ...... the local residents will COMPLAIN that they can hear them ... and see the blue lights through there windows whilst trying to sleep..... So again ....... what does he know ? ........ head of road safety, that's what you are, not someone who as had the advance police training ... so bog off. ← True points I'm sure. But is there ever a justiificaton to do 90 in a 30MH? Actually I'm playing devils advocate and think we should have dual speed limits. 20 in school areas in the day. 40-50 at night depending on the road etc. But as the law stand if I did 3 times the national speed limit I would get a ban and probably a prison sentence. Dual standards for sure. J
  3. I've got two longtime friends who are 'filth' and have nothing against the police per se, but this is sureley wrong? If the papers are reporting it then all the better. Motorists in this country are treated worse than any other group of the public. I feel hounded out of my car by the number of gatsos, truvelos, unmarked cars, cones, slow signs, accident signs, go slow areas, high petrol and tax prices etc. Yet I am a law abiding citizen who pays my taxes on time and never does anyone wrong. It's about time this changed. Saftey Camera partnerships - my AR$E
  4. It's not worth the pain of running a pirate version of XP. Get the real thing. You don't need Pro unless your on a work network. I would guess it's either a works copy or a pirate. Buy the real deal of home edition. Then run all the MS updates you can take. You will save the amount of money you've spent in the time alone!
  5. I know this is a well aired topic but the latest story in the Telegraph really got me narked. The number of Derbyshire police cars caught speeding: 59; The number of Derbyshire police officers prosecuted: 0 By Nick Britten (Filed: 27/05/2005) Fifty-nine police cars were caught speeding on one county's roads last year - but not a single driver was prosecuted. None of the marked cars captured by speed cameras in Derbyshire was known to have been using blue emergency lights. But in every case senior officers decided that the journey they were making justified breaking the speed limit. Derbyshire Police made the admission after The Derby Evening Telegraph used the Freedom of Information Act to obtain the statistics. It came a day after a Derbyshire officer accused of driving at 90mph in a 30mph zone walked free from court because his car's black box recorder, central to the case, had gone missing. Yesterday, anti-speed camera campaigners attacked the force for "letting off" its speeding drivers. The drivers of the 59 marked police vehicles were all sent notices of intended prosecution, which were revoked when they appealed to their superiors. Cars attending emergency calls are exempt from speeding penalties and usually an officer on a 999 call radios camera monitoring staff if they pass a speed camera. Also, no penalties are issued if the flashing blue lights are seen by the camera. Most police cars have two lights on their roof which flash in sequence so one is always visible. In each of the 59 cases no blue light could be seen and no call was made by the driver. Supt Royston Smith, the head of Derbyshire Police's criminal justice unit, said: "Every case accepted that the vehicle being used was for operational police purposes in circumstances where it was necessary for the speed limit to be exceeded in the course of their duties." He claimed that some of the cars might have been captured on camera at the split second their flashing blue light was not visible, which he said was the situation in "at least" 14 cases when the cars had strobe lights. "If the people who examine the camera photos cannot see a blue light flashing, they automatically issue a summons. Once the officer gets the ticket they can then appeal and explain what the use was of the vehicle at the time. "This is then subject to a rigorous examination by their divisional commanders and the head of the criminal justice section." He said there was no legal requirement to use lights and sirens when attending emergencies, and suggested that some officers turned them off to avoid alerting criminals. But Caroline Chisolm, the spokesman for the road safety charity Brake, said the figures "smack of double standards with one rule for the police and another for the public". She added: "It's a disturbing precedent when the police appear to be seen to be breaking the law and getting away with it. "Safe drivers are getting fed up with being penalised for exceeding a speed limit by a very narrow margin. Little wonder they lose confidence in the police when officers are seen to escape punishment for the same offence." Mark McArthur-Christie, a spokesman for the Association of British Drivers, said: "How come we have situations where a highly qualified private motorist and an equally well-trained police officer who both break the speed limit can be treated so differently? "But more worryingly it is symbolic of a much deeper problem. It is evidence of more damage being done to the relationship between the police and the public, who are increasingly losing confidence." Kevin Clinton, the head of road safety at the Royal Society for the Prevention of Accidents, said: "Any emergency driver, especially one exceeding the speed limit, should at least use blue lights. People need time to identify where vehicles are coming from, particularly at high speed, so they know how to react." Last year, more than 51,000 speeding tickets were issued by the Derbyshire Safety Camera Partnership and Derbyshire Police. The partnership is increasing the number of mobile cameras over the bank holiday weekend. A spokesman said it was "satisfied" with the police handling of the 59 cases. "Each incident was investigated by divisional commanders and by the head of criminal justice and we support their decision not to prosecute." :tsktsk:
  6. Usually I don't buy conspiracy bs , but it's quite riveting nevertheless and offers some interesting questions. Very well produced. J
  7. Excercise is the key to a good nights sleep. That and don't play any video games at least an hour before bedtime, gets the mind too active otherwise. I had fish and chips and Carlsberh export during the Liverpool game. Slept like a baby afterwards. ALthough I woke up at 5.30! Jay
  8. QUALITY GAME. I'm a United fan but it's good to see a British team lift the cup. Liverpool deserved to win after overcoming a historic scoreline. What a nail biting finish. Gerrards finest hour. Glad I watched it all. Jay
  9. If you go to somewhere like Toys R' US (Babys R us) then they will take it out to the ca r park and fit it into your car. Try this with any seat your thinking of buying , and look on the manufactureres website for cars they support . Not all ISOFIX seats work in all cars/certified for all cars. J
  10. Forget it! I tried an Is200 with our Britax Isofix seat. My 18 months old daughters feet were touching the back of the seet, even with the seat forward. Don;'t get me wrong, IsofIX seats are good, but they are heavier and bulkier than normal child seats. There isn't that much room in the rear of the IS200 anyway. Just buy a couple of normal childs seats, one for each car. Then you don't have to worry about taking it in and out again. J
  11. I trust whichever one backs up my preconceived notions and agrees with me. But seriousley, I read a lot of autocar , used car buyer and what car, topgear on the web. Most motor journalists like most people have pre-conceived notions about a brand. If they already like a brand then that will add 'halo' points at the start. So I journo A like BMWs then he is already in a good frame of mind coming from the right context for a BMW. Most people are like this and even journos who try and be idepenedant are the same to some degree. I think BMW are trading of their brand like Mercedes did, it took a while but the shine cam of Mercedes and they are a lot more objectivley scrutinised nowarays in interior trim etc. The sane will happen with BMW. They are already less liked by the general public (excluding reps) . This inertia takes a while to change that's all. I am not knocking BMW's (they make some great cars) , just trying to place why reviews always favour them. Also for the actual majority of the public who don't particularly care about their cars handling BMW's have more flaws than other cars of similar ilk (poverty spec, dodgy electronic interface, poor interior room on the 1 and x3 etc). It's just that most journos decide that drive is the most important thing, wintness the consitently lower marks that Audi get over BMW, yet Audis have better build quality and spec. J
  12. Sounds like the RX-8 fuel economy in normal day to day driving Although since I went on the Prodrive Mazda day advanced driving course I get much better economy. Spooky eh. Turns out I was changing gear to often and in too high a gear much of the time. Monster car sounds like fun, not sure if I can handle the power though. Is 'Homo' mode similar to 'Snow setting'? Is that a factory fit or optional extra? :winky: :D
  13. The number one reason to buy an integrated sat nav unit is aesthetics. Almost without exception car dashes look better with them in. Whether it's worth the money is another point!
  14. The best thing to do is to align yourself in the way that you want to go, if their is a camber in the road then usually in the middle is the least deep water. Then accelerate to a good speed (not too fast mind) and drivee straight through it. If you drive to slowly and the water is deep you could stop and flood your engine etc. If you drive to quickly you could build up a large ow wave but that shouldn't affect you too much, but you can't stop remember so if something is coming the other wy you need to take that into account. If your in a Ford mondeo then reverse out of their cause the air con ducts are low down and you'll have to replace your air con system in that case for about £1500. I always try and drive through the really deep stuff at about 20 mph any slower and you could stop in the middle. Even if you gain no traction the inertia should carry you through safely to the other side. So if the water strectch is quite long driver fast enoguh to carry you through to the other side. J
  15. Tonight is EUROVISION. Some class inter European love ins. Got to watch it for the odd tel wogan comment if nothing else. Actually would be playing Splinter cell chaos theory but missus is watching the Eurovision so I am just drinking some wine and just on the interweb. I wash and polish my car almost every weekend. The guy opposite has a Porsche 996 in MINT condition . I mean this car is better than the showroom it came out on. Wash, polish, buff, undersill pressure wash, thew works. He's also got a classic 1973 porsche in MINT condition in another garage he had build specially for it. He's a cool guy and if he ever sells that Porsche someone is going to get a great car. Makes me feel guilt even though I am out washing a waxing every weekend.
  16. Looks like a very polished version of the tvr colour. A guys got a Tamora in my works car park, and it's one of those chromatic paint jobbies, sort of green/purple. It looks really nice and shifts colour and this reminds me of that. Looks good! J
  17. Glory definatley. When the wind blows. Requiem for a dream left me too traumatised to feel anything but shock. Final Fantasy at the end.
  18. current bid on this IS is £5600, do ya recken it's good buy? me thinks not, due to this guy's first ad- too much bul :tsktsk:t BTW- wots with all the rocks this joka trying to sell? ← Reminds me of a Bill Hicks Sketch (for those of you who don't know,. the funniest comdian of all time). Talking about a sign he saw outside a hick house in tennesee. Said "Dirt for Sale" What did this guy wake up one day looking at his feet, going "Honey" we got get the shovel, there's dirt everywhere. This guys thinks he's standing on a goldmine "you need it for a planet" etc. Not quite how he say's it and it's 100 times funnier but you get the picture. J :D
  19. It shouldn't. Sounds like either the install didn't load correctly or there might be a corruption. If you can change the settings bakcand nothing happens then no worries. IF you want to be sure run scandisk, J
  20. Generally the windows updates are pretty go0od. I even trust them to autoupdate now. Always make sure you firewall is working , and if it ever switches off disconect from the net and try and restart it. Classic signs of virus related activities. I had linksys Wag54g router. was okay for a while then didn't work very well. Belkin router was crap as kept disconnecting from the net. Now use the Netgear one and ZERO problems. Running SP2 etc. The number ONE cause of windows problems is dodgy/problem drivers. Unless there digitally signed be very careful. Especially with things like graphics cards or Nforce 2 motherboards. A wrong driver will give you the blue screen of death. Always create checkpoints before doing anything major. They will save you a lot of heartache in the long run. J
  21. The PS3 info was released at E3 today. The videos should make you gasp, even if the specs don't. Check out the F1 Game and Gran Turismo 5 Vision for sweet car related goodness. And killzone2 for those who like film quality CGI. http://www.e3insider.com/floored.aspx?articleID=SYXV6SIBWM :mat: Just scroll right on the little video control till you see Sony PS3 Game Trailers in the right hand window. ---------------------------------------------------------------- PlayStation 2 and PSP may have been present at Sony’s press conference at the Electronic Entertainment Expo on Monday, but it was PlayStation 3 that everyone had come to Los Angeles to see. Sony didn’t disappoint, revealing that it will release its next-generation video games console in spring 2006 - though whether this includes the UK is unknown at this stage. The new console packs some of the most up-to-date technology available inside a sleek, curved package and also features the first complete PlayStation controller redesign in more than a decade. The heart of the console is the new Cell chip, which will provide the PlayStation 3 with two teraflops of computing power (this is the amount of calculations it can handle per second) - roughly double that of Microsoft’s recently announced Xbox 360. It also uses a new custom graphics chip by Nvidia that will power in-game visuals only possible previously in computer-generated movies. Games will come on a new type of disk called Blu-ray, which can hold an astonishing 54GB of data, allowing for games with incredible detail. Like Microsoft, Sony is stressing its new console’s support of high-definition TV, despite the low penetration of the new technology in some regions, including Europe. PlayStation 3 will be able to output signals at a resolution of 1080p - higher than any console available now and higher than Xbox 360. The PlayStation 3’s controller loses the now-classic design Sony has stuck with since 1994 for a new look that could be best described as banana shaped. Also gone are the wires - PlayStation 3 controllers work using Bluetooth, and the console will support up to seven controllers at once. It will also be possible to use Sony’s new handheld, the PSP, as an additional controller. With broadband Internet access becoming a standard feature in homes worldwide, connectivity is a key issue, and PlayStation 3 will support high-speed wired and wireless connections right out of the box. Like PlayStation 2, Sony’s new console will be able to use a detachable hard drive. This will be sold separately, suggesting that Sony is sticking with its current approach of not creating consoles with the hard drive as a standard hardware feature. PlayStation 3 also has slots for SD and CompactFlash cards and Sony’s own Memory Stick cards. But as impressive as the graphics, sound and connectivity features of PlayStation 3 are at this point, it’s the great line-up of support from games developers that has jaws dropping. Sequels to most of the top-selling games of this generation are already in development for the next, along with a raft of all-new games. As the world’s biggest games publisher, FIFA creator EA’s support was never in any doubt, but gamers can also look forward to new games in such well-known series as Devil May Cry, Gran Turismo, Metal Gear Solid, Killzone and Tekken. PlayStation 3 will also be backward compatible with both PlayStation and PlayStation 2, meaning that there will be thousands of games available for the new console on day one. Going into Monday’s conference, there were doubts as to whether Sony would be able to keep its top hardware spot, especially considering the power of Microsoft’s Xbox 360, which is set for release at the end of the year. Now it’s clear that Sony is very much still in the fight and the real hard part is figuring out what to do until the hardware is released next year.
  22. I love it. Hate that guy (white skinhead arrogant guy , who's afraid to fight) can't remember his name. This is one of the only things worth watching on TV, why is it on so late. This should be primetime. J
  23. I hate chamoising afterwards. I am in the line to buy some of that flash stuff. I like washing and waxing. But HATE drying. Especially with a black car. Water just leaves huge tide marks on it. J
  24. The 'osspot in the crap mondeo that kept swerving in and out of lanes without indictaing today. The fat sweaty coppers taxing the motorist who drives 71 mph whilst missing the dangerous drivers like above. Kev cars with xr3i/nova bodykits and exhausts so large I could park my car in them. Don't they know that eveyone knows there cars are sh :tsktsk: and DONT go faster. They just sound lounder. And the largest exhaust actually reduced backpressure to much on small engines and you lose bhp. Jockeys the lot of them. Middle lane hoggers. People who drive 2 angstroms from your bumper. If I want you that close behind me I'l l slam my brakes on. People who drive slowly on single country lanes , then when you go to overtake suddenly speed up so you can't . :tsktsk: People who pull out really suddenly in front of you , then drive reall slowly away and foce you to brake. IF YOUR GOING TO DRIVE THAT SLOWLY WHY PULL OUT IN A HURRY! :tsktsk: :tsktsk: :tsktsk: :tsktsk: :tsktsk: :tsktsk: :tsktsk: :tsktsk:
