  3. Funny, Anyone who believes the moon landing was a hoad is a moron. .. .. no offense to anyone. I saw a guy try to explain the evidence. The stuff about the shadows is total bs. Anyone who is proffesional photograper will tell you otherwise. And here's the clincher. The moon landings were the ultimate pr against the Soviets. Who had many hundreds or thousands of deep throat agents inthe hierarchy of America. Now they got the secrets of the atomic bomb, depsite it being the most closley gaurded secret in history. Don'y you think they would have found out the moon landings were faked, and presented this coup de'tat to the world press? Occams razor as the man says. You can't 'prove' anything to 100%. BTW the earths magnetosphere projects way beyond the moon. They were never exposed to full extent of cosmic rays. If they had had a sunspot that would have fried them 1000 times more than the van allen belt.
  4. Using AOL got a 2MB line with unlimited usage. Fast and good service, can be a pain in the :tsktsk: with regards to them using special tcp/ip settings etc. J I presume your bit-torrenting?
  5. Pioneer are the best quality. Am buying one in September (50") but used to have a freind who worked for Pioneer. Some quality displays. You have to get one capable of Hi definition and XGA though. You'll kick yourself if you don't. Justin
  6. Clean. But very lucky. Got clocked on birmingham dual carrigeway doing 102, slowing down... Got the ticket and sent it back the next morning, NEVER HEARD ANYTHING BACK!!! :D :P :winky: B) :zee: G.o.d was looking down on me that day That was over 1 and half years ago. Still clean. Bit more careful now. My brother just got 2 month ban. Was doing 120MPH on a motorway. Was incredibly lucky just to get 2 months. Still, when a police chief who had launched a safety camera partnership got clocked doing 82 in a 40 zone, it shows you what a joke the system is. Hypocritical :tsktsk: 's ------------------------------- Anti-speed police chief clocked at 82mph in 40mph zone By Andrew Alderson, Chief Reporter (Filed: 17/04/2005) The head of the Metropolitan Police traffic division faces disciplinary action after being driven in a marked police car at 86mph - at times at more than twice the applicable limit - because he was late for a meeting. Chief Supt Les Owen, who has launched a series of anti-speeding campaigns in recent years, was being driven in busy built-up areas of north-east London on his way to collect a colleague for a meeting at the force's traffic headquarters near Buckingham Palace. The vehicle, a Vauxhall Omega, sped along parts of the North Circular and surrounding roads at 82mph in a 40mph limit. The vehicle, which occasionally used its emergency siren, hit its top speed of 86mph in a 50mph limit. Details of the case can be revealed by The Telegraph - five days after Mr Owen's police driver successfully appealed against an earlier court decision to give him six penalty points on his driving licence. The penalty was reduced to three points for Pc Mark Bradley, 44, an officer with 25 years in the force. Road safety campaigners were incensed yesterday that a police car, not attending an emergency, had been driven at such a high speed. Mr Owen is the subject of an internal police inquiry and one of the issues that will be considered is whether he should bear any responsibility for the speed at which Pc Bradley was driving. The chief superintendent has not been accused of a criminal offence and he is expected to deny acting improperly if he is accused of misconduct. Mr Owen launched a campaign called London Safety Camera Partnership 18 months ago, which involved new digital speeding cameras for an accident black spot. In a speech at the time, he said: "We aim to educate drivers first and foremost about the hazards and repercussions of speeding." The scheme was launched with the support of Roadpeace, a charity that supports bereaved and injured road crash victims. Bob Gale, a committee member, said at the launch: "The tragic fact is that nearly all fatalities and injuries on the road are preventable. "These are not accidents - they are caused by appalling, irresponsible behaviour, speeding being one of the most common infringements. A speeding vehicle is a lethal weapon." Yesterday Dr Gale, 69, a retired research chemist whose son Luke, 21, was killed on his moped in a collision with a speeding motorist in Bristol in 1999, said he was shocked by the disclosure involving Mr Owen. "Police officers must lead by example - like Caesar's wife they should be above suspicion," he said. "There is no excuse for a police car to be travelling at this sort of speed in a non emergency." 20 March 2005: Police put brakes on speeding patro
  7. You've been reading our Agenda! :winky:
  8. You cant get out of this one that easy.Youv'e never heard of it have you? ← You could enter the Monster! J
  9. http://www.lemans.org/accueil/index.html 18-19th June One of the greatest races in the world. Were driving down on Friday 17th, (at appropriate speeds) , pitch up a tent and get chuggin beer. We are paying about 100 quid, which is ticket and a ferry share. I.e I have a passenger. So it's around 50-60 for the tix and whatever the ferry cost. Cheaper if you have a passenger. No costs other than some fuel (18mpg in the RX-8 !) , taking some crates of beer and some nosh for the weekend, A cheap weekend of fast n'furious fun. Would love to meet up or drive down with some LOC members.
  10. Anyone going to Le mans? I have a mini convoy going at the moment my Rx-8 (or aristo vertex If I have found one by then) , a Porsche 911 GT3 , a Nissan 350-z and a F150 Lightning . Any Lexi (plural of Lexus?) going ? Justin
  11. Im leaving the country then :) On the list everything was o.k until i read no 10......surely you mean less old bill :winky: ← Cops are generally good They will spend less time persecuting law abiding people, and more time getting the real criminals. Remember no more 'speeding fines' on the motorways. Just dangerous driving etc. Or yeah, life imprisonment for heroin and crack dealers. Life meaning for the rest of their life with no chance of parole, ever. They are scum ruining lifes. :tsktsk: Maybe all the police drive Altezzas! :winky:
  12. Flat tax is revenu neutral , so it is tweaked to bring in the same amount of tax. The gershwin report commissioned by Labour says that £20 Billion can be saved, the report commisioned by the Conservatives says £35 billion can be saved, Taking the lower figure as my base. We have up to £20 billion to re-invest. Also I would chanel the overseas aid budget. Which according to the gov will rise to £5.3 bilion by 2008. I would invest £1 billion of this in R&D in this country to pay for development and free deployment of TB/malaria and Aids retrovirals. This has two advantages, it saves millions and millions of lives. And it keeps research and development in this country, and gives the drug companies an incentive do develop these costly drugs , which have little commercial value in them in a classical market. I would use another 2 billion for 2 very specific overseas projects. The rest of the money would be put back into the general pot. I would save loads of money by not having a costly to administer revenue system , thus be able to reduce thousands of pen pushers in the inland revenu. Already that is £22 Billion in the pool. Remove 70% of the beaurocrats from Defra etc. Theres 700 Million in the Big Opportunitys fund (formerley the Orwellian sounding new opportunitys fund) this is currently going into schools and hospitals and has become part of the same general tax fund, not going to charitys , sport and arts etc. Sell/give the train tracks to the train companys in retrurn for much less subsidy. See the excerpt below for interesting reading. The railways currntly recieve almost £4 Billion in rail subsidys. I would use 2 Billion of that a year that to build brand new high speed links (400 mph+) between the major cities. Great boost for british manufcacturing as well! The train companys can ulise the network in an efficient way. Give any small line that loses it's rail fast and subsidised coach access. Cheaper , more regular and probably quicker. Use the rest to invest in Personal Rapid Transport for London and rolled out to other major cities . We can use this as the cars eventual replacement , for the majority of inter urban transportation. Lower pollution, cheaper than building more tube, faster than bus and as personal as a car. Also build and manufactuer in Britain and gain a nice export line for the GDP boost. Can replace our car industry. http://www.cprt.org/ http://www.skywebexpress.com/ There's billions if you look. We can spend the money more inteligently and reduce the size of govermnet whilst creating a real value add, scientific-industrial base from which to tackle the future . --------------------------------------------------------------------- RAIL SUBSIDIES Rail news & views | November 2003 05 November 2003 TEN years after the 1993 Railways Act received Royal Assent and began the process of privatisation, taxpayers’ support for Britain’s railways is now said to have risen three-fold. Research carried out by rail journalist Roger Ford, and published in The Rising Cost of Britain's Railways by pressure group Transport 2000, shows support for the railways in 2003/04 is expected to total £3.84 billion. By comparison, in British Rail's last year as operator of an integrated railway (1993-94) the total subsidy was £1.325 billion (at 2003/04 prices). Revenue, which the proponents of privatisation expected to rise dramatically, has hardly increased at all. It was £4.94 billion in 1989/90 and is expected to be £5bn this year. But the costs of many areas of work are now well in excess of twice those at privatisation, and in 1992/93 BR achieved nearly 90% of arrivals on time, while in 2002-03 the figure was just 80%. Remember that the tax intake has rise massivley since 1997.
  13. Nasty, hope you two are ok. Watch your back and neck for a few weeks, it can compress your back and spine. Take it easy for a while, no heavy lifting etc. Take it from a man who's had a lumbar microdisectomy.
  14. the strength of the joint question cant be answered cos it would also depend on what type of weed/resin/whatever you were smoking. a similar question can be asked in relation to half a pint too, stella? fosters etc they all have different strengths, a pint of stella can make me feel very giddy after a long day without much to eat! its legal in amsterdam and they dont have a high crash rate cos everyones driving round stoned. ← Hm , not sure about that. Got quite a lot of dutch friends and none of them smoke. It seems that most of the smokers in Amsterdam are foreigners. Dutch consumption of canabis is actually falling. I would guess most of the drivers in amsterdam don't smoke. I might be completley wrong though! :mat: I never have driven while drunk or over the limit. However I play a lot computer games whilst under the influence of hops. My reactions are definatley slowed and my judgment is impaired. Sometimes you'll do a lap in gran turismo 15 times and can't beat a certain time. Wake up next day sober , do it first time. You don't even realise your reactions are slowed, but they are.
  15. Yeah, 1200 songs worth wouldn't last long! :P Just plug the PSP into your usb port and copy the files across! However, compliments the look of the lex well! ← Got my psp on order. With ridge racer and Gturismo. I spend 3 hours a day commuting on the train, tube. SO a good investment, any loc members go to paddington or liverpool street want a game? Wireless connectivity rocks.
  16. Yeah us hard working familys are all moaners. We have the most to moan about. ← After this election I am starting up my own party (seriously). I haven't got a name yet but plenty of ideas/ 1 Flat tax 22% - no tax on first £12,000 of earnings. Why - get rid of loads of inland revenue pen pushers, simple and fair tax, revenue neutral. Raises living standards of poorest without complex and expensive to administer tax credits. 2 Reduce and simplyfy benefits sytem. Why , less tax to pay for the poorer due to no initial tax. So can streamline benefits. 3 Basic pension for everyone at at standard rate. 4 Discpline in schools/society. Introduce new civil responsabilitys act. 5 Free nursery places for all funded with voucher system. Then everyone can work and pay taxes claiming less benefit. Children get a great start to life. Everyone can seek a work life balance. 6 De-restricted motorway speeds , move speed camera off motorways and put them outisde schools and built up areas. Police will be instructed to arrest dangerous drivers rather than just fast drivers. More expanded motorways funded by another 2 billion a year investment. 7 More defence spending , 200,000 troops. 8 Life means life. Rapists and peadophile and multiple murders get life without chance of parole , ever. 9. Three strikes and your out laws. 10. More cops, less paperwork. 11. Free uni education. 12 Lower taxes for manufacturing. Re-build our industry base with Britain first industrial policy, modelled on the Japanese system. And loads more, scrap all the quangos, re-direct overseas aid, private rapid transport implemented in urban areas, high speed trains linking all major citys. Billions on science , nanotech, aerospace, gm etc. Going to register the party after the election and create a website. Anyone interested in joining? Free membership to LOC members.
  17. Yeah us hard working familys are all moaners. We have the most to moan about.
  18. Apart from the fact that they plan to spend 50 billion more than labour over the next 5 years. Where does this magical money come from. 50% tax on earners over 100,000 (who will leave the country in droves like last time there was a Supertax, thereby actually reducing the intended tax intake) oh and a little thing called LOCAL INCOME TAx. Basically anyone in a dual income family I.e both you and your wife earn would pay more. So anyone earning over the 28k would paya top rate of 45.5 tax (40% + 1 % NI + 4.5 local income tax). My wife works from the NHS and I work in IT and I worked out we would pay double from out current council tax in the form of the new local income tax. Would I pay this , would I :tsktsk: I would move abroad. Most of the southern counties would end up paying up to double council tax under the libe dems. :tsktsk: Oh and they would give the vote to rapists and peadophiles while still in prison, abrogate our national border policy to brussels and create another layer of beaurocrats in the form of devolved regions. If the lib dems ever get in power I am out of this country for good. (with my aristo), down the autobahn.
  19. It is a sad day. MG had started to make some good cars. The mg ZT Tourer was cracking. Wouldn't have minded the V8 version myself. We should have chuckced them a big fat subsidy to develop new cars. The French would have done it. Why not us? When pueogoet closes their car plant in the uk and others relocate to eastern europe who will keep our manufacturing base alive? We need a manufactuting base of critical mass to maintain this skills for new industys defence etc. :tsktsk: I am a free-marketer but theres nothing free market about manufacturing. First the trains , now the cars. We'll end up making nothing in this country. Then we'll be stuffed. When the next war happens who'll have the skills to build anything? It takes a generation to train a workforce.
  20. :D I borrow one from Lexus reading for 24hrs. Like the looks (althought I wanted the new 300gs). Black with all black leather interior and sat nav. Set the nav to take me back to Maidenhead (although obviously I know the way). Loverly plummy accent, in 1/4 of a mile take the next left. etc Then let her RIP!! First thoughts. Great handling, took her out for a few country runs during the day. Revs very highyl to get any power out (even compared to my 231 rx-8) . Handling was sorted . little overhang of the wheels gives a predictable and sporty drive. Brought a few grins. Engine. Great sound. could get it roar even doing 30 (made the gangs of yoofs look around) , although you have to rev the crap out of to get any power. Mid range is better than low end power. From standby it needs to be worked. Runs out of go too quickly but a nice engine. Handling. Sorted. COuld only light the traction control 3 times in the day! Fun chassis, not as composed as the RX-8 but more fun actually. Cause its easy to push it out and play. IN the mazda you have to be going lightspeed to lose any traction or grip. In this it is great at sticking to the road but not to clinical. Great around roundabouts where you really notice the shortness of the card. Gearbox. Loverly short throw, although a bugger to get in reverse. Interior. Love it. great sytling and quality, great speedo, good climate control. Liked the auto lifitng boot. Not too sure about the rear space witha child seat int though. My daughters legs were toughing the back seat to easily. (I wasn't speeding with her in I hasten to add). Boot space was adequate, just about go the big pushchair in , although ther wasn't much room for anything else. Verdict. Better by miles than the three, needs more oomph though, Altezza or supercharger sounds the way to go. Will I buy it ? Don't know if theres enough room for the family. I am seriously looking at the Aristo V300 Vertex now, after some inspiration on these forums. Might by the IS200 till I can find the right Vertex (black v300 vertex 1999>) though . Anyone know a good importer? :mat:
  21. I think your misrepresenting the topic on the Merc site which I have been taking part in. It wasn't a Lexus Bashing session at all, in fact some owners were crtitical of their pride and Joy so lets not start a war between makes!. One chap pointed to a web site in the states, who I may have have had far more experience with GS's and their problems that we have. http://calemons.com/toyota.htm which was about V6 engines anyway When mind played up I quoted many of the issues raised on the USA sites to get the situation resolved... Having said that I hadn't heard of engine failiures either and my understanding was the Supra engine could take a good pounding. We all love our cars and only the very honest of us will admit to their failings after we have written a huge cheque. Both Mercedes and Lexus offer a quality product .. quite often let down by the poor after sales service. Which was my issues and the terrible depreciation I suffered! I'd rather focus on the driving standards of B*W owners than start slagging off other cars. I hope the new GS is a good car and a well sorted car as many people will be investing their hard earned cash into it! ← I don't mean to imply that Mercs are bad cars. They are very good cars, some are great cars, new slk is v nice. I would have bought the old style 55 AMG (but it looks like a Taxi). New SL 55 would go down a treat though! But they seem to have lost their 'bullet proof' reliability which they once had. This is solely down to the bean counters, not the actual merc engineers. That is the sad part. On the plus side their cars are more driver oriented and their handling/steering is much improved. Lexus seemed to have retained their build quality when BMW and Merc (although Audi are getting great) have declined.
  22. Well Is200 was best in class JD Power winner. Where were merc , languishing down the tables. :mat: For reliability of Lexus. http://www.lexus.com/about/history/ May 2003 For the seventh consecutive year, the J.D. Lexus IS200 - 90.2 - 4 :D 12. Mercedes E-Class - 81.6 - 57 :winky: ----------------------------------------- Lexus News Lexus claims fourth J.D power gold award ... New record score reaffirms industry-leading status Lexus has claimed an unprecedented fourth successive Gold Award as the number one ranked brand in the 2004 J.D. Power and Associates UK Customer Satisfaction Study. Not only has Lexus remained Britain's best, it has also succeeded in substantially improving its performance to set a new high score of 878 points out of 1,000. The figure marks a new record in the 11-year history of the survey. Lexus improved its results in all four categories of the survey - Quality and Reliability, Vehicle Appeal, Service Satisfaction and Ownership Costs - demonstrating how the brand's legendary pursuit of perfection continues to deliver real rewards to the customer. Industry-leading quality of service has always been a Lexus hallmark, yet in this category an improvement of 34 points was achieved, increasing the advantage over all other premium market rivals. Notably BMW, Jaguar and Mercedes-Benz all performed worse in this area - and overall - than in 2003. The IS200/300 range remained the standard bearer for Lexus's emphatic performance, improving its ranking from third to second highest placed model overall and increasing its advantage as number one in the upper medium segment to 42 points ahead of its closest rival. The 2004 J.D. Power survey, presented in conjunction with What Car? Magazine, was conducted among drivers of cars registered between 1 September 2001 and 31 August 2002. The results were drawn up from more than 23,000 completed questionnaires from both private owners and company car drivers. Success in the J.D. Power survey sustains a successful start to 2004 that has seen Lexus achieve excellent first quarter UK sales and record high March registration figures. Lexus also retained its number one position in the latest Dealer Attitude Survey conducted by the National Franchised Dealers Association (NFDA) and gained the highest approval ratings in Sewells' annual Fleet Operators Attitude Survey for the third year running. Karl Schlicht, Lexus Director, said: "To win a fourth Gold Award is excellent, but to do so by improving our performance by such a degree is a tribute to the fantastic work done by our national network of centres and the Lexus GB team. "Success in the J.D. Power survey is all the more rewarding for us as it is based purely on the opinions and experiences of our customers. Their satisfaction remains central to all our endeavours and we shall continue to work to set even higher standards in the future." : IS that enough info for the mercedes drivers P.S The Mercedes tagline used to be "The Best or nothing", then in the late 90's they started to build cars to cost and changed their tag to "A Passion for Design". How sad. :iraqi-info-minister:
  23. How much did you pay , if you don't mind me asking? Also where did you look. Seen one on autotrader, is this expensive for this model? Is this the one you bought? V300 VERTEX EDTION TWIN TURBO , AUTO, TIPTRONIC WITH STEERING WHEEL GEAR CHANGE, FULL LEATHER INT ELEC SEATS, HEATED SEATS, TOUCH SCREEN , MUSIC AND CLIMATE CONTROL, AIR PURIFIER, CRUISE CONTROL, XENON LIGHTS, ALLOYS REAR SPOILER, ETC ETC , 32,000 MLS VERY IMPRESSIVE CAR £18,495. ← Any special places to look for them , JDM imports etc?
  24. Yep, that's the P1. Basically you get a load of points to spend. Points are spent according to the formula (car and date) i.e a lambo on a bank holiday weekend = lots of points. The exige on a monday in september = not so many points. My brother is a real fanatic (comes close to some of you guys , although not even close to Monster!) So 12K for him was a no brainer. Although he hasnn't renewed. Sounds like the snooker club membership is a bargain in comparison!
