  1. Since you're in Surrey try Russell Birch at Toyotec, maybe he knows someone?
  2. Yes, true, I should do. I've been to Toyotec before and he was good - I wanted him to just check the suspension bushes because I had an MOT advisory but he was honest enough to say they were OK, which was nice. However, he seemed a little annoyed that I had 3 different brands of tyre on the car, which was a strange reaction IMO. Sure, mention it, but I felt like he thought I was some sort of mechanical simpleton for doing that (I was going to tell him about the kit car in my garage that I built myself but I shouldn't have had to). If you're racing (as he does) and need to get 0.5sec off your lap time, tyres are important but, on the road, I have never noticed any difference between tyre brands or felt any difference when mixed. I have since replaced all 4 tyres for the same brand and, surprise, surprise, it feels no different to when I had 3 brands on - it's just a marketing ploy by tyre companies IMO.
  3. If you were considering trading it in, presumably you could afford to have someone look at it and fix it for you? If so I would highly recommend Russell Birch of Toyotec in Red Hill - www.toyotec.co.uk You may be able to live with water but if it gets into anything electrical it will start to corrode it and cause more problems.
  4. You can copy the details from here: http://www.toyotec.co.uk/contact_us.html
  5. Thanks for the information Roy very helpful. That's good to know about the water pump for those with the Warranty. I do not yet have one, however have contemplated this as it seems quite good value for peace of mind should something go wrong. I have not yet used any Lexus Indy, I have been contacting some to get some quotes. I believe I found a document you had kindly put together on a list on a thread here. I also used google to find some. I have contacted; Osaka in Newport, Lex Tex autos in Sheffield, Toyotec Ltd in Surrey and First Choice Toyota in Bristol. All have been helpful and professional and have given quotes + breakdowns for the work I asked for. All seem well reviewed online and undecided on whom to use, also am deliberating the Lexus Essentials plan as this is sometimes cheaper than the quotes I received.
  6. Hi all Ending up using Toyotec - a bit of a wait but knows what he's doing. Thanks for the reco!
  7. It's overdue at that mileage so definitely do it. You want a transmission service that includes replacing the fluid and the filter assembly, *not* a flush. Since you're in London I would highly recommend taking it to Russell Birch at Toyotec in Redhill, if it isn't too far. They have loan cars.
  8. Thanks Mark.Sound advice and a good recommendation for Toyotec.
  9. William.....you are a star! I confused Toyotatec for Toyotec, also in Surrey. I will make it No 12
  10. Something seems to have gone wrong with this link as I just see an older version of the list. The one I can download has 11 entries. With Toyotec added it should take it to 12 entries. Here's a link to their website. http://www.toyotec.co.uk
  11. Also since mine was done late (77k as opposed to the ideal 50k) I did it again at 97k, although that was mostly because it was easier to get the car to Toyotec while I'm working from home.
  12. I had the same query when I got my RX with 77k on it. Advice from Toyotec was to replace the filter assembly and drain and fill once, doing it twice isn't necessary although I'm sure if you insisted it could be done. A double drain and fill is usually only necessary if the box doesn't have a replaceable filter assembly.
  13. There's really little point in just draining the fluid and not changing the filter assembly. Don't flush it, if anyone says "flush" - run away. Probably a bit far from you but I'd always recommend Toyotec in Redhill, they'll give you a loan car too while it's being done.
  14. I had the arms done on mine, my local garage quoted a huge labour rate but Russell at Toyotec did it for a lot less. There’s a trick to it apparently, so find the right tech and it’ll not be too expensive. I’ll dig out my invoice for you a bit later
  15. If you're pretty handy and follow the correct procedure you can probably do it yourself, I always take mine to Toyotec to get that done as I'm pretty useless with most car repairs and I want to make absolutely sure it's done right. I don't want to worry you but 120k is a lot of miles to have put on the transmission with the original fluid, it'll be well and truly burned up by now and there may already be some damage. You may want to check the fluid that comes out of it for metal shavings. Hopefully that won't be the case and if it's shifting ok then that's a good sign, just bear in mind that when manufacturers say the fluid is "sealed for life" they only really care about the car making about 100,000 miles, beyond that they don't care - the car's well outside the warranty period by then and if it fails and writes the car off they can sell you a new one. If you service it properly and it eventually fails sometime after, it was the 120k without servicing that killed it, not the service. But hopefully that won't happen and you'll get a load of happy miles out of it. Actually that's another reason to have an experienced tech do the service, if they're good they'll test drive it before and after and make sure there are no issues like the shift points being wrong or delayed engagement etc. I don't know if you have a lot of history with the car but if the paperwork doesn't seem complete it's possible it has been done at some point, you may want to pull the dipstick and see what the fluid looks like. If it looks pink or dark with a hint of cherry red then that's good fluid, chances are though it'll be dark brown/black and smell burned.
  16. If you just want a drain+fill you could take it to Toyotec, they've been great in my experience. I don't know if they can do a "full gearbox recondition" which I'm guessing means a rebuild, but the solenoids are external so if one or more has failed then I think any competent garage should be able to take care of that. Even if you do need a full rebuild I'm sure they could recommend someone.
  17. I thought they were the same William. If you give me Toyotec address etc, I will add them to the list.
  18. Robin, Do you mean Toyotatech.co.uk in Guildford ? If not ,please give address etc. Great to see you've drawn up a list of garages. This will be really useful, particularly if it can be given a bit more prominence in the forum. Looks like you haven't added Toyotec yet. I see you didn't get a reply to your question but after checking a map I can confirm that Redhill is not the same place as Guildford! (Admittedly they're both in Surrey but assuming they're the same place is like assuming Chester is the same place as Crewe!)
  19. Take it to Russell Birch in Redhill - http://www.toyotec.co.uk
  20. @mattyt1991 Just re-read your original message, do not use anything other than the original fluid recommended by Lexus. It's so cheap in the grand scheme of things there's just really no reason to take risks with something as critical and expensive as a transmission. If it were my car I would only take it to a Toyota/Lexus specialist for the fluid change, not a generic gearbox place that services all makes and models. Not saying this would happen at the place you mentioned, but I think your odds of having it done improperly are higher at a place that doesn't specialise in those cars. I have a local garage that I trust to change my engine oil and do minor stuff but when it comes to anything critical like the transmission I'm taking it to Toyotec in Redhill.
  21. @mattyt1991 if the transmission hasn't been serviced already by 86k I would suggest doing that immediately if you plan to keep it a long time. Ideally it should have been done at 50k so is overdue. Definitely have the filter changed, if anyone says the word "flush" - run away (see this page for more info: http://www.agcoauto.com/content/news/p2_articleid/168). I just had mine changed by Toyotec, cost about £300 (including the filter). I changed mine when I bought my car with 77k on it, almost certainly had never been changed. 20k miles later I had a vibration at idle in gear from the transmission. Just had the fluid changed again and it's thankfully gone away, but it was likely due to the first change being delayed. A drain and fill never gets all the fluid out.
  22. Both times it was done by Russell Birch at Toyotec who I am sure knows what he's doing. Maybe he reset adaptations before the test drive, not sure what the official procedure is. Both times it was a drain and fill, I'm wary of flushes after listening to Louis Altazan talk about them - http://www.agcoauto.com/content/news/p2_articleid/168. Sounds like you're probably right on it simply being dirty fluid/debris left in there after the first service. I guess I'll start changing it at least every two years now, the vibration seems to have started after the two-year point so maybe that tells me something. I just hope that the vibration didn't damage anything! He test drove it afterwards and said it drives really nice anyway.
  23. I can recommend Toyotec in Redhill, Surrey, I've been going there for years and always had good service and advice
