Lexus Model

  1. Whats up fellow lexus people, I need some advice with my current mk1 GS300. I've fallen into a state where I do not know whether its worth keeping and spending money on, or letting it go. It a 95' M reg standard model with 95k and service history up to 74k. Since I've owned it, the only work that I have done to it is a back-box delete, and oil changes every 5k. Problems: The body work has a few dings and scratches; the back windows don't work; the cup holders are broken; the CD changer doesn't work; the front left lower arm bush needs replacing; there is an oil leak; some of the LED's on the dash don't work. Now baring in mind that I only paid £300 for it, is it worth pouring in more money to fix up the issues and run low level boost? My intention was to turn it into a highway cruiser/ tourer, but considering the costs to do this, would it not be better to start with another base? My alternatives were a 3000GT, an e39 540i, or an RX8. A BPU 3000GT will run around 380 at the crank but parts are harder to come by. An e39 will cost a lot to boost but the v8 sound is gorgeous. I've already own two rx8's but at the time I was in college and never managed to pull enough money to work on them. I have have been offered to swap my GS for an FTO Tip/auto Mivec. Are these any good or should I avoid it?? I love my the noise the 2J makes and the interior is nice on the MK1 GS. It doesn't get as much attention as my supra which sucks, but oh well. What do you guys recommend I should do?? My initial budget as of this moment is about £1500. Should I trade her in for something else or stay pure?? Any advice or encouragement is appreciated!!!
  2. Yoyo, my names Pratik and this is my build of my MK1 GS300. I bought it to replace my prelude VTi which lovingly blew its head gasket At first I was gonna use it as a runabout car but it seemed to good to be a work-horse. I picked it up with 94K, MOT till March 2015, and full service history for £300!! This is how she was when I picked her up: The cup-holders were broken, the shifter area had lost some of the walnut vinyl, and at night I couldn't see how much fuel I had left: None the less, I done the deal and jumped in feeling like an old man. But once then it hit me; I had a 2J block under the hood!!! I had great expectations which slowly dissolved as I brought her home. As I parked up next to my Supra I thought to myself that there is no way these to cars share the same heart!! So to try and cure my doubts, I pulled out the back-boxes to give it a better tone. I took her up to longlife in Bicester to get the job done.
  3. Whats up people, I went out today and got myself a lovely mk1 GS300 and let me start by saying WOW!! Its the first lexus that I've owned and by far the most comfy!! Saying that im coming from a mk4 supra and a 5h gen prelude looool!!! Bagged it for £400 with 93k on the clock, full service history, MOT till march 15", and 6 months tax. My plan is to turn it into the ultimate Euro road trip car, ready for summer 2015!! At the moment I have only 2 concerns: 1) Where can I get mk1 body/lip kits from??? Are mk2 parts interchangeable with the mk1?? :S 2) Does this have the same auto box and 2jz-ge as the 93" supra?? If so, why doesn't it pull in the same way?? Any help/suggestions/feedback would be appreciated!! I shall start a project page and upload pics as soon as she gets a clean!!! XD
  4. I'm seriously thinking of buying a 1999 to 2003 (depends what I see for my budget) GS300 or GS430 and although I've done some research and have a rough idea what to look for, I'm reluctant to approach one of these typically small-scale or internet trade sellers to ask for a test drive - so I wondered if anyone in Greater Manchester, Cheshire, Lancashire etc could show me their GS sometime and take me for a short drive? It'll be better than visiting a trade seller and wasting their time (in their view) if I say the V8 hasn't got enough of a burble, for example.
  5. Hi all, just out of interest, I've been reading the threads here about the GS300's electric brake accumulator system. However, one question that I can't seem to find the answer to is... why does the GS300 have such a system fitted in the first place? Does the electric accumulator system offer something that the traditional vacuum brake booster doesn't? Is there something particular to the design of the car or the engine that necessitated such a system? Just curious really :)
  6. Has anyone managed to get an Ipod kit fitted into their Lexus GS (MK 3)? If so which one and how much was installation? Or does anyone know an ICE dealer who could do a proper job? (Lancs/Manchester area). cheers
  7. My Gs300 has a very old nokia cellular phone kit installed next to the gear stick area which i would like to upgrade to something that i can connect with bluetooth. I was wondering what kind of kit to look for or how this is connected and what options i have Thanks All :) :)
  8. Hello all, I'm new to this forum and need some help please. Recently bought a GS300 2006 model and having driven about 350 miles home I stopped for fuel and when I set off again the engine warning light came on followed by a check AFC light. I connected a diagnostics tester and have codes P0420 & P0430 which is telling me both front cats aren't working well. I don't have any funny smells from the exhaust which makes me think the cats are ok and it seems strange to have both cats faulty together. I have purchased a service manual and it shows a charcoal canister fitted under the rear of the car but I'm thinking this might be just for the US cars and not the UK cars - does anyone know if this assumption is correct. Any help would be appreciated please?
  9. Me and my friends are having this debate about the difference in normal GS and GS Sports. He has got a normal 2004 GS 300. I bought mine in May. It has front lip spoiler under the front bumper. 18 inch sports wheel with sports suspension. Rear boot lip. The Sports insignia on rear quarter windows. And special sticker on the driver side pillar when you open the door to check for air pressure. Some one has put on 430 Sports on the normal Lexus GS300 sticker. My log book says its a Lexus GS300 SE. But the trim is sports. Now you chaps has more experience than I have because its my first ever Lexus and to be honest fellas I love it. How would you differ in a normal GS and GS Sports? I can upload pictures of my car. I am new to this page so I have to figure my way around that. Cheers. Azz
  10. I finally picked up my mk1 gs300 sport last weekend. Got a great deal due to buying from a friend. the car turned out to be better than expected apart from one serious issue i noticed when driving home in the rain - the wiper stalk was broken. I have on order a second hand complete unit from ebay with both wiper and indicator stalks and it looks like the steering wheel etc will need removing. any help on how to fit this would be highly appreciated if its possible as a DIY. Ive searched through the forums and havent found anything that can help me with this. Heres the first picture of the car but please excuse the quality as it was getting dark Broken wiper stalk ;) I've purchased the car as a small winter project to get on road and then use as a daily driver so i will be keeping this topic updated as the car progresses along with pictures and guides that havent already been covered
  11. My car started, Ran for 5 seconds then cut out. It will not start. The immobilizer warning light keeps flashing. I have 2 keys for the car, both keys will not turn the light off which suggests immobilizer problem not a key chip problem. Can anybody give me some advise on what may be wrong with my car? Thank You Sonic60
  12. Hi, found this forum while searching info about the GS300, Eventually I bought a GS300 SE-L a few days ago and so far I really like it for my current needs. I have a NOOB question. I didn't even know there was a AWD version of the GS300 2006 but I cannot find much information about it online. Indeed my question is... - Was an AWD option for the GS300 ever released in UK? - Or... (which would be a nice surprise) are all GS300 SE-L 2006 AWD? I didn't see any AWD in the specifications of my GS300 and I don't think most GS300 in UK are AWD as I can't find many online in UK but AWD is more frequent when searching for GS300 on US sites. Any of you guys has a GS300 AWD? I saw some review online saying that the AWD version adds weight and on a GS300 makes it worse when driving up-hill due to the overall CarWeight/CarBHP specs Thanks!
  13. My wife has just kindly reversed my 1995 GS300 into a wall damaging the rear nearside parking sensor such that whenever reverse is engaged it activates and beeps which is a tad anoying. I can get the damage to the bumper repaired but need to procure a replacement sensor. I gather it needs to be a genuine lexus (or Toyota?) spare. There seem to be lots of companies offering rear sensors for lexus but those I've seen are not genuine lexus spares so will not provide exact replacement integrating into the parking control system. I havnt tried lexus yet but the last time I needed a xenon bulb they quoted about £500 and I got an exact repacement for £40! So I'm trying every avenue 1st. Any suggestions or help even sympathy gratefully accepted.
  14. I recently purchased an '09 GS300 ES from Lexus Edinburgh, pretty much the last of the breed and with just 19k mls on the clock. Shortly after became aware of an intermittent thump from the transmission either on kickdown or when changing back up from accelerating - more pronounced when in sport setting. Having traded in an '07 equivalent, I knew this was not right. Diagnosis by Lexus Cambridge took some time until removal of the diff drain plug showed large amounts of metal swarf on the magnetic plug and in the oil. Strip down of the diff showed that the pinion gear was floating axially on its shaft such that it could jam itself into the differential bevels and then release itself with a thump. You can imagine the damage this was doing. Diff was replaced with a brand new unit under warranty. The Cambridge service manager tells me that the replacement is a very recently released new design of differential. I wonder if this design change is related to my problem? Anyone out there experienced anything similar? BTW, Chris Pluck at Lexus Cambridge did a great job on keeping me posted on status, and Lexus Warranty people were also good.
  15. Hi all - just joined the club following my acquisition of a GS300. Previously had a Jaguar S-Type which I had for 4 years. My first ownership of a Lexus and it beats the Jaguar hands down!! It's a 2008 GS300 SE which I bought through Lexus Carlisle. Not my preferred colour combination (prefer Messa Red and Cream leather) but what a car ..... only had it three days and already think it's the bees' knees. It's comfortable, quick and looks great. Just one problem so far, which I think may be driver-error, though I'm not sure how ... DOH! With the wet weather we've had over the last three days, it's been difficult to really appreciate it, but having had a run in it this afternoon I parked it in the drive and 'thought' I'd double-check it to be secure by using the key fob. Three hours later, and following an hour or so of torrential rain, I discovered the car to have all its windows open and the side lights on. Is this driver-error? What have I done wrong, other than not to trust the auto-security system? Well, it's now been dried out without a problem .... but I'll be out every so often to check that it's still secure and the windows have opened of their own accord. Driver-error or an electronic blip because of the lightening activity in the area? Anyone else had a similar problem?
  16. The floor in both the back left passenger side and the driver side are wet (clear water). It appears to be coming from the AC vents. I suspect that the AC drain pipe is blocked. Can anyone out there help me find the drain pipe so that i can try to unblock it if that is the problem. The car is a Lexus GS300 2007.
  17. Hi, new to this forum. Owned a BMW e39 for many years, several versions from a petrol to diesel. Loved the Lexus on the first drive when looking for an alternative, powerful and quiet. Have part ex'd the BMW for it yesterday, pick up th 2005 GS300 in three days time. When. I bought it didn't have a long time to test drive, any things I should be looking out for? The computer is showing alls checks ok... Great forum, lots of useful info...
  18. Hi All, I have a 2001 GS300 with OEM Sat Nav. I love the car, but I am a little cheesed off. I really want to replace the OEM sat Nav with an aftermarket product to benefit from new available features (blue tooth, TV tuner, Ipod etc). In all my searching I have not found a unit or units that are fit for purpose without loosing the climate control. It seems this is doable for non sat Nav models...Surely there is a solution to this.... I would really to some advice from anyone who has done this, pictures too would be awesome Thanks in advance guys
