High Pitched Squeal When Braking Above 60 Mph

Recommended Posts

Hello - I have a high pitched squeal when braking from around 60 mph or above. My car is less than a year old and has done approx. 7500 milesThis appears to come from around the glove box area. It is very high pitched and normally I could not hear this if people were talking or the radio was on. This does not happen when driving around town or lower speeds. I have had a Lexus technician sit in the car and he has also heard it. He reported this back to his Maintenance Manager for advice. I had a call from them saying that they had taken another Nexus 300h out for a test drive which had done less than 200 miles, and that they were experiencing the same noise. I was wondering if anyone else had this noise. My dealer seems to think this is normal and could be part of the Battery regenerating system when the car is braked.

The hybrid system does make a noise when braking yes but to fully understand the sort of noise, would you be able to get a passenger with a phone to try and record it?

Hi

Colin Barber answered this query 6 months ago: "This is normally because the hybrid energy recovery is providing most of
the braking resistance so the mechanical brakes are just lightly scraping the discs. As a result the mechanical brakes may not be used that much and they rust/glaze making the noise worse. Try braking hard from speed a few times to really use the mechanical pads to help clear them up to see if that helps."

This worked for me
