Sat Nav disc update

On eBay - An RX400h Sat Nav disc update requires Battery disconnect before use - any idea why?

I'd guess that the disc provides an update to the satnav operating system as well as the mapping so like any computer, it'll need a power-off reboot maybe?

does that mean I lose all my regular journey data?

I have started using an Iphone ap which not only shows the route in perspective but warns on overspeeding and speed camera positions. also gives travel info on intended route if any holdups many miles ahead.

I haven't got a 400h so again, just a guess, but I can't see how disconnecting the car Battery would affect any data on an Iphone app? Or have I got the wrong end of the stick?

No the Iphone app works without being near an RX 400h but disconnecting the RX Battery is making me ask will I lose all my RX Sat Nav data......

 

My use of the Iphone app is because it is up to date on speed cameras and also my speed in relation to limits I am driving on at the time. 

 

App is CoPilot on an Iphone 6

Doh, silly me!

At this point I'll bow out because I don't know if the satnav in yours is hard-drive or DVD-based and the answer could be different, so a fellow 400h owner is best placed to answer that one.

my 2006 400h has a Version 3 DVD

I put the new DVD in. It tried to work but failed. So I disconnected the Battery [lost all my previous destinations! and my Iphone connection] Rebooted. The satnav 

now works but the resolution seems degraded a little. Otherwise OK

Anyway I am about to obtain a 2013 450h Premiere so the next owner can play with the new dvd....

When I up date mine I don,t disconnect the Battery I just pull the fuse for the radio/sat nav system a lot easier , still would loose previous stuff mind.
