Whirling / ticking sound when going slow under ele power

Don't know about service life, but just tried to install the techstream to look for codes, only to find my laptop wont read the disk, so yet another headache to solve!

Sorted techstream and just scanned now and error is c1256 accumulator low pressure.

I accidentally posted in a tpms thread, but have been advised to run a brake bleed using techstream.

If anyone else has any input, please feel free.

For others searching the source of sounds like mine, check your abs. Do it sooner to, as the units widely expensive!

The noise I reported earlier on in this thread has finally been resolved after two visits to the dealer. They replaced a front wheel bearing as well as some work on the brakes.

I finally have a quiet car.

Very pleased. 

Think I might be keeping this for a while :)

If you have not already done so I would really recommend you try bleeding the brakes before buying another brake accumulator. Remove as much of the original fluid as you can from the container before refilling it with fresh fluid. Then flush through plenty of fluid remembering there is a bleed screw on the accumulator it's self.

May well get Lexus to do full flush, as I don't have the tool thingy, if Lexus can ever come up with a bit of customer service and answer my questions they have had for ages now (still not been able to explain why they declined my bonnet warranty and had several weeks to make something up - so far worst service I've had anywhere, so not very happy with them presently)

Have you tried contacting Lexus UK most times if you have anything done they contact you and ask for your opinion Ill wager if you complain someone will contact you from the dealership.

Techstream does the same job as that tool. There is a walk through the process built into it. It does require two people to do the job though.

The chances are that the problem is a tiny piece of debris is stuck under the pressure relief valve. When full pressure is reached the pump shuts down fluid leaks past the valve back to tank. This in turn keeps the pressure lower than it should be. 

The brake fluid also looses viscosity as it attracts moisture leading to lower pressure from the pump.

Thanks John. Didn't realise techstream could do it, so that's a result. 

I'll have to get a load of dot 3 (never had anything that's not dot 4 before lol) and give it a try. Fingers crossed it works!

I believe the abs is electronic not hydraulic, so possible to have electric noises going on when not braking I guess.

Could do with this like a hole in the head at the moment lol.

Wonder if these abs pumps starting to go would throw a code?

Hi, not sure if you still have your GS or can recall but I think I have the same issue, in fact it's only recently occurred after just having my brake discs all round and 2 calipers changed. Did you ever get to the bottom of it and find a solution?

@pgg450hNo, my old gal still ticks away and has done for the 6 years or so. I decided to wait until something broke vs going on a goose chase, but nothing ever did, so the old saying prevailed, if it ain't broke, don't fix it 🤣

@Zabe if the annoyance was directed at my having not answered the question you asked in 2021, some 4 years after the thread convo raising the issue, then I'm sorry, I didn't get alerted thus know that you'd messaged, I wasnt actively tracking a 4 year dead thread and nor was there an update.

Thanks for the reply, I've had my car for well over a decade now (still love it), got to know all the noises pretty well and though this wasn't an unusual noise, the constant running when in electric mode was new. At least I might not have to rush to get it checked, I'd still like to know why it's changed but might wait now till the next service later this year.

The abs units are a potential weak point, and very expensive! From other threads on the web, some dealers have wanted more to replace than I paid for the whole car!

Several folks have commented that Lexus wrote to them offering to fix, or repay costs if they already had replaced, but I can't find any actual evidence of a recall or such. Anyone know of it? As I hold no hope of Lexus offering me any help given their decline of my rust claim without reason.

My old Rover 25 made the same noise. Never found out why but it wasn't a hybrid. Kinda supports the brake pumps theory.

My dealer has advised this is most likely to be the brake accumulator and is normal for it to be running all the time. Strange that I've never noticed it running continuously in the past but explains why you've not had any problems with yours @Upex.
