Engine Under Cover

Recommended Posts

Bored this morning so removed the engine under covers today just to have a look.  I was interested to see if there was any corrosion on a 3.5 year old car.  The retaining screws were all rusty but I cleaned them up and coated them with ACF-50 before reassembly.  All in good nick under the covers but there was a lot of debris on the inside of the covers themselves.  There isn't now!  Wondered if I might get access to the front of the radiator from underneath but sadly not.

Reminds me of a bird strike I had in a 2nd generation IS250. I managed to get most of it out from through the smashed grille or at least I though I had. When the dealership dropped the cover out from under the car to replace the grille the poor technician got covered by the remnants of the bird.

Quick follow up, discovered that there's plenty of access to the front of the radiator by removing just 9 clips and the 2 horns.  Enough leaf debris and corn stalks wedged in there to start a compost heap

I think this is something not covered under a dealership servicing. Lol. Maybe I'll take a look this weekend.
