Car Wont Start.. What Have I Done

Recommended Posts

after removing some bits last night and respraying them i put it all back together and thought nothing of it.. this morning i get in the car to goto work and it wont start.. lots of Battery life ..engine turns over but will not start,.. (see HERE

for the bits i done..) so i went to work on my bike after removing some of the paint around contact points just in case i had painted over an earth point.. i also checked and electrical joints i had been near.. anyway i just got home and thought i would give it a try b4 having another look and it started first time then cut out seconds after..(engine just died)

any ideas what it might be as i have know way of getting it to a dealer at the moment.. please look at bits in photos in link and shed some light on what they might do..

many thanks

O.k not sure what i have done to fix it????? but i have been tinkering with the whole lot again undone it all clean up bolt holes.. wiggled wires.. undone connectors blown in them shook then..lol and put them back together and re connected and bolted everything up tight.. and tried it once more.. it started up near enough straight away i was outside the car with foot on accelerator key in ignition so when it stared i saw a puff of smoke out the back and kept giving it some revs to make sure it did mot die on me again.. decided to take it for a spin but locked up house first with car still running.. on getting back to the car it was only ticking over at about 500 revs.. is this normal.. because after i wnet on the run about 4 miles it was then ticking over at about 800-1000 revs.. hhmmm seems strange.. maybe had something to do with me undoing the Battery for 10 mins to reset the ecu just in case...

ps.. to colin your a star mate thanks for the offer it was most appreciated.. and i am glad i did not have to take you up on it.. (in the nicest way of course) I will get to meet you one day..

Mine only ticks over quite slowly, at about 500 to 800rpm once the engine has been running for a while.

Mind you, when first started it winds up to about 1600rpm! Is this normal? Cause when you stick it in gear it really lurches the car forward. You definately have to have your foot on the brake pedal!

coil produces the high voltages required for the spark plugs to spark. The engine ECU controls the spark but it cannot directly power the coil so the ignitor is used.

ignitors can give intermittent problems but your problem sounds more like a wiring/connection problem as the fault only occured directly after the components were removed/reinstalled.
