Sills

Recommended Posts

Appears that the sills (rear) are a weak point on the IS, guess someone here has had this problem sorted? I'm thinking it ain't gonna be cheap ..

To do the job properly I.e. cut back to good clean steel, weld in new sections, fill and paint is not a quick or easy job so will cost a fair bit of money if done by a body shop.

The other problem is the extent of the rot which can spread into the inner arches adding further to the repair costs.

There are some videos on YouTube showing the work involved.

It's such a shame that rust in this area can be the financial end to a good series 1 IS. Ironically it must me down to water ingress from the inspection panel in the wheel arch causing the rot from the inside out. Once visible on the outside its getting too late. 😓
