Hi Ray

These are my thoughts and I'm sure you have had some of them.

Firstly it is not a safe engine and the possible implications of the belt breaking would require expensive repair.

Are there any entries in the service book, an engine sticker or documents which indicate when the belt was last changed as it would be surprising and worrying if it was running on its original.

Who previously changed the belt can also be of concern as a documented change by a Lexus Dealer would give most owners more confidence.

I have found Lexus dealers are very helpful and will check your vehicle on the lexus system for a previous change and give you the benefit of their thoughts.

Good luck, Anthony

To add to the replies above, I would say, do the water-pump and the tensioner + pullies at the same time, use Lexus/Toyota original parts only (I'm not sure if they still do it as a kit) the local Lexus dealer should be a safe affordable solution if they offer the fixed price servicing for older cars or use a trusted independent if you know one.
