More connecting to wifi issues

Recommended Posts

Ok so I have tried to ignore this as it is not really a big issue but its driving me insane knowing its there.

I have changed my Android phone to a new one, so latest version of Android (Samsung).  I think they call it 1 UI or something.

Bluetooth works fine so just a Wi-Fi issue.

I set automation on my phone to  enable Wi-Fi hotspot whenever my phone connects to the car's Bluetooth.

The car starts up, connects, it picks up my phone and connects to wi-fi.

The grey icon on the display changes colour to show it has connected.

Then about 5 mins later it drops the connection and can no longer see my phone.

I had no issues with my old phone so I am sure it is not the car.

I've tried manually enabling/disabling, disconnecting and reconnecting.

I have tried a couple of automated apps and I am stuck.

Has anyone else had this issue?

Are you saying that the connection that is being dropped is the hotspot (i.e. the WiFi) connection? If so, have you checked the status of the hotspot on your phone when the car loses the WiFi connection to the phone? Is the hotspot still active or has it deactivated? That might help with further troubleshooting (e.g. there might de a default setting somewhere on the phone that is controlling how long the hotspot remains active).

Also have you tried the other method of WiFi connectivity on Android phones, namely "Bluetooth tethering"? This is similar to a hotspot but is enabled when a Bluetooth connection has been made on the phone. In theory as far as your car is concerned there should be little difference between these two methods (although it's possible that the Bluetooth tethering method may be on a different SSID). You'll find the setting to enable it on your phone in the same section as the hotspot controls. I'm not sure whether you can automate it though.
