Navigation online search on a RX450h 2012 phase III

Recommended Posts

When setting a destination on the navigation system on my 2012 facelifted rx450h, there is an option for "online search".

To make this work it seems from the manual that I need to set up something called "connected services".  To get this working, I need to enter some settings into the car for my mobile phone provider including the following:

Username, Password, APN, DNS1, DNS2, dial number and script.

My understanding of how this system works is that it uses Bluetooth to connect the car to the phone, then it uses the mobile data connection of my mobile phone provider.

Has anybody got this system working?

I'm almost certain that it's for the USA and not the UK/EU markets.

'Connected Services' does such things as automatically calling the emegrency services if you're involved in a collision and suchlike.

The set up screen for connected services requires the country to be picked from a list.  The list includes European countries,  including UK.

Bluetooth Dial Up Networking protocol is old now, not sure all the latest phones still support it and the Lexus Connected Services implementation was always flaky at best.

Personally I wouldn't bother even trying to get it working. You are better off just using your smartphone to search for anything on the web and for navigation with up to date maps and traffic info.

Here's another thread on the subject which may help:
