hi just bought a 2014 lexus gs450h first hybrid my question is when its on park or nuetral does the engine shut off are these ment to idle on the ICE while stationary or the engine cuts off is that normal for hybrid. is there a way to stop this happening thanks

Hello and welcome!

If you have charge in your Battery this is normal to shut off the engine. There are some circumstances where it may not do it immediately or stay longer on engine. In normal situation with charged Battery it will remain on it until it's on 2 bars and need to recharge. Then charge up with engine to 3 bars and shut off again soon.

hi thanks for the quick reply so the car has low charge so shuts off so this is normal for hybrid ?

Engine turning off is normal

NEVER put it in neutral unless pushing it - stops the hybrid Battery from charging up. Leave it in Drive or Park. 

You can cause the engine to turn on more urgently by putting into sport mode

Thanks rayaans might need a little time getting used to it but im loveing the car.

The only way I can stop the engine from shutting off it putting the car in Sport+ and selecting a shift range S1, S2 etc.. When you come to a stop the engine will not shut off (in mine anyway!).  These hybrids don't wear out like conventional start stop cars as the motor smoothly spins the engine up... Not like a starter motor!
