What best performing cars has everyone driven?

Ferrari 360 Spider with F1 Shift - Great power and handling but gearbox is awful (buy the manual not the F1)

Lamborgini Diablo (Audified one!) - Even better power, handling ok but felt a bit like a small bus to drive it since its so big. Drove it in London, definately not practical!

Porsche Boxster S - Hired one in Las Vegas, nice car but crappy brakes (almost went through the first set of traffic lights I got to) - could be something to do with American roads though - it was squealing tyres a lot like all cars in America.

Jaguar X-Type 3.0 - Hired one last weeked while my car is away, really hated it! Although it is supposed to be a young exec type car like the IS200 the handling was nowhere near as good. Overall power was better but the auto gear box made it feel very laggy like a badly turbo charged car.

Lotus Exige with manufacturers 190HP kit - Great handling, very quick but hard work because everything is manual (no power steering, power brakes etc.), would be great as a second car for fun but don't have one on its own!

My boss let me borrow his 911 - on the promise I never tell anyone else at work!!

Stunning performance but to me it was still overpriced for what you get..........I'm working on borrowing his spare.......an NSX!!!!

I've driven , been driven and owned quite a few fast cars.

The fastest I've been was 170mph in a Lotus Carlton, superbly underated car.

The quickest not in top speed but just aceleration was a 2.0 16v Turbo Vauxhall Nova, that scared the life out of me. Witnessed it do the 1/4 mile in 13.37s at Crail, that would leave a Diablo for dead.

but I always keep the dream alive that one day there will be some thing sitting in the drive called a R34 Skyline:cool:

fast cars i've been driven in..

lamborghini diablo... original tail light melting version..

lotus esprit turbo...

ferrari testarossa..

porsche 944 turbo.

gmc typhoon (mpv 0-60 in 4 secs 0- 100 in 12 --- with 4 passengers and room for more!!!!)

fast cars i've driven..

dodge stealth (mitsu 3000gto) lovely looking car and v fast.

'93 camaro z28 6 speed... straight line rocket ship corners like the cart it really is.

ford sierra cosworth (unknown bhp but lots) turbo lag, turbo lag, turbo lag, ***** there's a corner.....

v8 chevy van...nothing lives with an empty one up to 50mph.....and oversteery as hell. fun fun fun

peugeot 406 coupe 3.0v6se... fast (0-60 in 6.8 and 150+ top end) my previous car and gone at the end of the month 8¬( 135 mph and then bottled it as there were cars ahead.

ls400 efortless power but does the hooligan thing to a t....close to perfect.

the daddy though was a metro 6r4 which i drove for 5 minutes whilst looking after it for a friend on holiday. the noise from the gearbox was unbelievable and the acceleration was shattering top speed was immaterial...however i was on 3pf&t insurance and the bill would have been big had i driven it any more.

cheers

When you're as old as me you remember driving all sorts of cars but the highlights must be:

I had a series of XJS, still got one rusting away on the drive, - they were about the only thing as quiet and quick as my LS.

I had one of the first Golf GTi's in the country back in 1979 and that was great cause no one expected a little hatchback to go that quick - didn't even have alloy wheels and only a 4 speed box.

Q-cars are great and have built a few over the years but the best was a mark 2 escort with a 3litre cosworth v8! v.quick but worse than the XJS's for petrol stations!

Best memory though is the old Metro 6R4 I know it held the world record for fastest 0-100-0 for years - on the road they were incredible off the road even better. A mate of mine used to build then up for rally cross but also built one for some Arab complete with white leather interior, airconditioning and electric everything - you still could not hear the radio over the engine though!
