Niggles with my Lexus NX350H do any of you have these?

Featured Replies

Morning all,

So its been three months or so now I have had my Lexus NX350H, I have read the book a couple of times and got to grips with lots of the controls but some things are still alluding me, and I need your help.

1 - I had the frosted up handles and non opening fuel cap issue, now in the hands of the dealer and I am awaiting a reply as to if they will replace them under warranty

2 - I get the two attached messages appear on the screen literally all the time (see pictures), in the morning the lexus seems to pair fine to my iphone, but if I get out to get petrol or go into a shop then when I get back in it refuses to pair up again. Its really annoying, any ideas?

3 - The interior is generally high quality, but the scratchy bit of cheap plastic on the steering wheel was getting on my nerves (see picture) luckily Aliexpress has come to the rescue this morning with a gloss black cover 🙂

4 - Is there a hump in the drivers side floor on anyone elses Lexus? (its towards the top of the floor mat on the right side) ? Is this normal?

5 - Is anyone else's collision warning permanently turned off, all the other safety features you have to turn off and then they come back on when you start the car again but collision warning is always off. Just thought it was odd.

6 - In terms of the heating / ventilation, has anyone else found the car to draw in outside smells really easily, if I am driving past a takeaway or old diesel car in front of me, I all of a sudden find the cabin filled with the smell or fumes, I have not had this on any other car I owned and its a little bit odd to be honest. Is it a fault or just a quirk of the car?

7 - Finally, is it me or is the Lexus NX350H really wide! I have parked in spaces and places I have been for many years and never had an issue before, but now I find myself having to squeeze out of the door to get out. I can see me arriving back at the Lexus one day with a big parking ding. Have any of you found this? Have you fitted parking strips to help the problem?

On the whole, its a good car and some of these are just minor niggles, but some are a little more at the front of my mind.

Look forward to other owners thoughts, advice, fixes and opinions 🙂

I have the same car as you - a few points.

I haven't experienced then freezing door handles and I self fixed the filler flap by applying some grease to the piston.

I cannot see a hump on the drivers side floor.

Whilst the car (so far) seems well screwed together, there are lots of hard, scratchy plastics in the car and I hadn't even noticed the bit on the steering wheel.

Collision warning; Go with what's there, if you want it on, then switch it on. Mine is on, but can't remember if I did that or not.

Haven't noticed that smells get into car more than any other I've had, maybe I've been lucky or I don't get out enough. There is a thread here somewhere that I was reading recently about how the heating/ventilation works. I had thought before I read it that the system wasn't as efficient and snap quick as my previous couple of cars. However, it would appear that the Lexus system is very clever (maybe too clever) and does a lot of thinking on its own. May you should investigate your settings and the online manual.

The car is certainly wider than my previous Tucson and although overall the size difference isn't massive, the Lexus styling gives the impression that it's bigger than it actually is. You should park in quiet corners where hopefully door bangers don't venture.

Fuel flap and door handles are covered by warranty. Both were well known issues with quite a few owners and issues were recognised by Lexus  and fixed. I had both issues sorted with nil cost. No issues since.

Fitted the Black Gloss steering wheel cover today (picture attached) I am pleased with it, and its a niggle gone.

New niggle though (or concern)

Checked the Oil cap as you do now and again, and there is alot of white residue in the cap.

Now from my old Rover K Series days this would seem to indicate coolant in the Oil and head gasket, but there is no coolant lost and its a pretty new car.

Is this something these hydrid Lexus cars suffer with? as the engine kicks in and out on short journeys so the Oil never gets hot enough?

Thanks

I am no expert on Hybrid car engines but in my many years of conventional motoring I would guess that looks very like 'normal' condensation contamination of the Oil.  Short runs cause the Oil to absorb any water vapour.  It looks yellow on your image.  If you are doing more short runs 5 miles or so rather than a good 20 mile hop then I would reckon that is your problem  I am sure the longer term owners will give you a better/ more accurate explanation.

Dave

Last time I saw gunk like that on a filler cap was in a 1999 VW Golf I owned. In days of yore it was often a sign of a leaking head gasket, or as Electron says, condensation in the engine which isn't being burned off due to doing short runs.

I'm surprised to see it in a new car though.

Been to Lexus today for a service, so go them to look at this.

They said it was due to short runs and the way the hybrid system behaved in stop start traffic (I am mostly crawling along in traffic) so it made sense.

They are replacing the Fuel flap and also door handles as my model is due the recall. So pleased about that.

No problem link below.

Just clean up the area and then its stuck on, warm up the glue strips slightly with a hair dryer and then stick in on.

Took about 30 seconds 🙂

Re the width, it could be that the doors are longer than your previous car and that would make it more difficult to get in and out.
