Picked up my IS 200 Sport today and i was insured with "Bell Direct" on the old car.....I cost an extra 150 on top of the original 300 (for the old car) with 8 months left to go before i do the usual Insurance hunt. Also got a discount for putting my partner on the insurance.

Congrats on getting your car and welcome.

errr Rodders?

Tesco re-sell Direct Line policies.

In my tale of of woe - it was a Direct Line engineer who wanted to put £12k of work on my 7 week old IS.

Tesco required that the cost of repairs > 65% of value of car before calssed as a total loss.

This section of Direct Line's website states that the cost of any repairs must exceed the value of the car before it can be classed as a total loss

I am with DL too. Quote for me and her indoors (30 and 29 respectively) was 530 notes for an IS200 Sport (standard). By the way I have full NCD. Hearing these stories of 12K repairs instead of Write Off is seriously going to make me reconsider. Esure/Bell Direct/Admiral were all close to DL quote. Anyone experienced their claims/repair service?

Maybe they have changed?

It was a DL engineer who inspected my car - and my RAC engineer spoke to several senior DL management.

The web site has changed - the policy document is now a different looking .PDF file - previously it was all HTML - draw from that what you will.

POLICY DOCUMENT PAGE

You may also notice the stunning similarity between the two FAQ pages.

Tesco Claims FAQ Page

Direct Line Claims FAQ Page

Tesco uses a slightly smaller font!

Reading the Tesco policy document - it would appear that a vehicle is a total loss if the car is less than one year old and cost of repair exceeds 60% of the market value.

If it is greater than one year old, then it would appear that it is at their discretion whether they repair, re-instate or replace.

Read page 9 of the policy document for the appropriate section (I cannt copy and paste from the .pdf)
