This morning I noticed the bit in the attached photo hanging off my exhaust pipe slightly to the rear of the Cat. It was only holding on by the barest piece of rusty metal so I have removed rather than let in fall off.

It appears to be a cylindrical lump of metal with a rubber connection to a metal bracket. This then bolts to a piece of metal that was welded to and over the top of the exhaust pipe. It is this latter piece of metal that has rusted through. There are no other connections to it.

Can anyone tell me what it is for and having now dropped off do I need to somehow reattach it.

The photo is attached to the previous post in this section. This is the first time I have ever attached a photo and Im not sure why it posted twice. I will try harder if there is a next time!

In answer to the posted answer already there when I matched it up to its correct position the cylindrical part just points backwards. It does not fit into anything at all and there is no sign of any other bits missing!

When I put the dangling remains into their original position the cylindrical part just points backwards. It does not fit into anything at all and there is no sign of any other bits missing!

Is it some sort of damping device?

As far as I could see it did nothing but Im sure Lxus must have put it there for a reason.
