Well, I've been playing around with various fuels since I got my GS back last year. I do mostly urban and stop/start driving, so rarely get above 50mph. I've had the AC off when driving. Whether I use supermarket 95 grade/Tesco Super Unleaded 99 or Esso Unleaded 97, I'm consistently getting 20mpg.

I filled up my last tank with Optimax, which is around 6% MORE in price than 95 unleaded in my area (101.9 vs 95.9). Car doesn't seem faster actually.

At refuelling time, filled up again with Optimax at the same pump and worked the fuel consumption. 22MPG!!! Ok, that's 10% less fuel that was being used, which on balance, overcomes the price difference by a small factor.

The lowest mpg I have seen is 25 on the computer using normal Shell unleaded, do you drive wiith a heavy right foot to get 20 from yours ?

Trip computer is known to be inaccurate and over-estimates fuel economy. You will find many other Mk 2 owners that are getting 20mpg when driving in stop start traffic around town.

I drive very relaxed and most of the time the car never goes above 3,000rpm.
