Air Con Leak

My LS 430 has not had a hard life, I bought it new just over 3 yrs ago. Since when it has been serviced by Lexus as per guidelines, has been garaged each night and has covered a massive 33000 miles. Imagine my shock when I found out that the aircon pipe under the fuel tank needed replacing three months after the warranty ran out. I am waiting for an estimate and to see if any one else has had a similar problem.

I've had my 2004 LS430 for about a couple of weeks. One of the problems they had to sort out before I got it was a leaking air con pipe and I'm preety sure it was to do with the rear air conditioning which was discharging the whole system. When I picked the car up, I looked through the inner dealer invoices and I'm afraid you might not like the price. If it is the same problem as my one had, I'm preety sure it was £600 or there abouts to put right. Sorry for the bad news.

I work as a refrigeration/air conditioning engineer and the quotes I hear about car a/c are silly money.....eg. a bottle of 134a refrigerant is around £80, enough to charge up around 24 cars. And for pipework, ally pipe is cheap and even cheaper if replaced with soft roll copper.

I have done many repairs on car a/c and there is always a much cheaper option than main dealer parts/repairs.
