Washer Tank Warning Light Switch

Recommended Posts

I have a problem with the warning light from my washer tank. It is constantly lit as if the tank is empty. However it isn't and remains full when it is filled.

I unfortunately caught the nearside under skirt on a kerb in a local superstore car park, since when this warning light has remained on. I guess that I have somehow detached a wire from the warning switch, but cannot see anything due to the floor pans etc.

Has anyone had the washer tank out on their 400 ? The .pdf I have of a repair manual shows the location of the tank and how to test the warning switch and washer motor, but not how to get at it out take it out.

Can any one help on this ???

Yes, that's the one--wish i knew how to do those link things. :whistling:

Thanks Guys, now if I got the hang of searching the forums I wouldn't have to ask old questions, but hey then I wouldn't be able to converse with fellow LOC members.

Thanks Again.

My 1998 LS400 has the same issue but unfortunately I do not have the technical skills so I will just print the information and ask a mechanic to fix it. :winky:

If you can jack up the front wheel and remove it, then you should be able to do the job. I was concerned about tackling the job at first, but the plastic liner for the wheel arch can be easily loosened and moved aside to gain access to the tank and switch. The only small problem I had was uncoupling the electrical connector as it was a little stiff. You can get by withh the supplied Lexus toolkit as that has a screwdriver and spanner that fit the screws and nuts. Thew torh helps as well.

Just remember to put a bucket or bowl under the car to catch what remains of the liquid in the tank when you start removing the switch ort you'l get rather wet. When I got the switch out I tested it with a meter and placing it in a glass of wate to see it floats.

Job went easy and took about an hour in total, and the light is now off. Saved a garage bill !!
