Just Installed Armrest! On A 99!

Recommended Posts

hellow!!! just got an armrest from a recent trip to HK, and i installed it yesterday on my 99 automatic IS200.

but i have a problem, i have smoothly removed the console and installed the armrest by myself for about an hour. upon finishing, ive noticed that the chrome trim around the oval plate of the auto shifter, isnt as snug as it was, on the half portion of the oval chrome trim, the portion towards the armrest. the portion towards the dash fits well however.

i made lots of adjustments on d screws of the console, however, if the i try to "push down" the console, the chrome trim will fit snugly, but the gap where the joints are --near the heated seat buttons, become more pronounced. its like the center part of the console...between the shifter oval and the cupholders "bulged" bcoz of the weight of the armrest, thus, causing the lower half of the oval to b raised about 2-3mm. it isnt really a big gap, about 2-3mm, im not sure if i just got crosseyed while working on it...coz i dont really remember how it originally was...but nvertheles...i think there is a gap that wasnt there before... any help????

Hello.

I have just installed the armrest in my october 2000, IS 200 SE, i also have the same bulge in the centre console in the same place as you described. It took me about 1.5 hrs, being very carefull, and its only when the console is back in place that you can see the problem. I intend to investigate it later but for now im just happy to have it fitted and to be making use of it. The price on a good day from a uk dealer was £275 for the lot but i had to fit it myself, however it is not as hard as may first appear, just make sure you fit it on a day when you got out of bed on the good side !! :D

Still overpriced though :whistling:

G7UHF......guess im not alone on this problem, but anyway, ive gotten tired of staring at the shifter chrome trim, and decided just to enjoy my "overpriced" armrest.

actually, only a quarter of the lower chrome trim is loose, measured d gap with a ruler, and came out that the gap is only "1mm".....anyhow, im goin to have my toyota dealer fix it when i get in for service anytime soon. sadly..no lexus dealer here....tsktsk

Hello to all armrest lovers.

Thats a thought, i might ask if they could look at mine when the svc comes around, i would like it put right but im not going to loose any sleep over it, besides who would notice such a small gap, and it is small as you say, only a mm or so. I thought it may be a small increase in the length of the feet on the bottom of the new box you had to screw into the centre console, if you get the old box and put it on a flat surface you will see it is not level, but raised at the end which was nearest the gear controller, so as i see it, if the feet on the new box at that end are a fraction higher it would cause a bulge at a point forward of those feet. What do you think. Im off now cuz me brain hurts. :withstupid:

Bad news guys, i want two power points in the boot, for me fridge and maglite charger.

AND a decent light in the boot instead of that stupid candle. HELP ! please.
