I've come into work this morning to the worst internet connection ever! The problem is, the same thing happens at home where i use the BT Home Hub. Is anyone else experiancing this with BT?

We're only a small company and dont have an IT department so not sure what to do. We've had a little server set-up but dont know how to reset the modem, or what resetting it will cause! ie, would any settings be lost etc.....

Can anyone help?

I use the BTHH and it superbly reliable - better than any other I've ever used!

Is it the wireless that is dropping, or just the physical connection to the BT ISP?

Also when you say the same thing happens at home, is there a commonality (i.e. o you use the same laptop at home and work, are you on the same exchange)? it could be the machine or the DSL equipment at the other end.

Best bet is to report a fault. I think the number is 0845 6007030 - you might go through to a call centre abroad, but perservere - they will try to fix it over the phone, and failing that stick you through to a technical team in the UK (they will fix it).

PS - Before you call, switch off the computer - if the BTHH is setup correctly, just disconnecting the power and leaving it for 5 minutes, then reconnecting it will fix it. Connect your computer up again and switch it on. It will clear any cr4p in it' memory and fire up. Dunno about your server mind....don't know what your set up is.

Every computer on the domain is connected using ethernet cables so i recon its the connection from BT rather than any hardware.

The problem at home is that i can connect to the internet then the connection disappears and it kicks me off the net. at first i thought it was just my PC but it happens to the laptop at the exact same time. Also, when i do connect (at times i would consider to be peek times) i get really slow speeds and loading of pages takes age's!

Ive had the modem off for the past 20 minutes and turned it back on. Connection seemed a little better but will test a little more, if the problem persists i'll call 'em up.

Cheers for the help Jamboo

I went through a similarly bad period with BT in October?November, hard to get a connection, my connection at home dropping out regularly etc. Then suddenly it all got better as BT added more capacity to my local exchange. Things are OK now, so maybe that's where your problem lies.

Hopefully....the modems do "learn" over 10 days or so, so if they have reset the kit at the exchange, you'll find speeds will go up and down for a few days. It's a good idea to log on to the router (BTHH) and check the line speed on there regularly. Depending on your exchange and how far it is, you should get 2mbps or more for a reasonable internt experience...but it depends on how far the exchange is, how busy it is etc etc...

Personally having been a Telephone nomad (going from company to cheaper company over and over again) for many years, I have gone back to BT, and very happy (tho' expensive). I get up to 7.7mbps to the exchange, living only a few hundred yards away!!

Seems to be the only company who can actually fix a problem quickly these days...the rest are pretty poor - promises of the earth turn out to be worth less than horse manure...though other than one problem with my Vision box (fixed in 2 calls/6 hours) it's been great with BT.

Good luck!!
