what you can do to get this light off is while in motion at about 15 mph or less, holding the wheel straight ..shut the car off and restart it..and the system should reset..in my 1992 S C 400, ever since it has gotten cold out my check engine light comes on along with the warning light that reads "traction control OFF" when it should be on..this i was told is a safety feature from lexus that causes the car to lose power..and it is very annoying..somtimes its on ..somtimes its off..have no idea what to do ( any1 happen to have this same problem?) the best thing to do if you own an sc400 that is 6 years or older ir to make sure you garage it..especially during the winter...

If the engine check light comes on then the engine ECU believes there is a problem. Until the problem is fixed the light will stay on.

You need to find out what error code(s) are stored in the ECU.

If you locate the diagnostic connector in the engine bay then turn on the ignition (without starting the engine) and short together E1 and TE1 using a piece of wire. The engine check light will now flash giving you the error code. e.g for error 14 it will be one flash short pause two flashes long pause and then repeats. If there is more than one error the codes will be given one after the other and then repeat.

If you just get a constant flashing then there are no error codes.

To clear the error code remove the EFI fuse for 30 seconds. If the fault is still present the code will be stored again and the check light illuminated.
