Air Con

 Share

Recommended Posts

Hi

Just had to have my air con system recharged due to loss of refrigerant charge.

Usual cop out by dealer - no leak found therefore not covered by warranty.

Dealer then advised that the gas will leak past seals if system not used on a regular basis.

I find this disturbing, if the gas can leak out then air (moisture) can get into refrigeration system which can cause severe corrosion of the refrigeration system components.

Nothing in vehicle documentation advising owners to use aircon on a regular basis.

Lexus customer relations also of no use as they state this has never been reported before.

yeah read on here somewhere that you should run aircon quite regularly

even in winter when don't need cold (also stops windows misting up)

and in winter you should run system on full cold for five or ten minutes (cant remember which) once a week to clean out system

when you say they could not find a leak, ask them when they put the dye into the AC system?? because normally if there is a leak, they recharge the system and a small amount of UV dye is added. you then run the system for a week or two and then using a UV light and some special glasses try and trace the leak.
