Going Gas Powered!

I'm taking the leap and going for gas!

Petrol prices have just become ridiculous and I was about to sell my baby and go for a diesel :tomato:

Then I heard about gas and the money I'll save on running will pay for the conversion in 16 months! (Lol. Just read that back and I sound like a cheesy tv commercial! )

Just thought I'd post on here to see if any of you guys have done it, or any questions you think I should ask the garage before I get it done. :D

I looked at this before..its something like LPG or something...the only thing is, isn;t the only company that does it is Shell? or at least i think only a very few do it and unfortunately theres no petrol stations around here that does gas. I've read a thread on this subject a few months back...but i will probably go for it as the last alternative to keeping my Lex.

Mine's gassed. Several Morrisons supermarkets in South Wales sell LPG, there are also some suppliers you can set up an account with (if in the west you can open a fuel account with Countrywide).

Mine's got the Romano Sequential Vapour Injection (multipoint) system with a 75 litre toroidal tank (60 litre usable capacity) in the wheel well. Goes well, especially after I upgraded the Romano ECU's firmware to 33.0 a few months back. Got a Flashlube system fitted at the same time as the install (search on eBay) as this is strongly recommended for Toyota engines.

Conversion done by Phil Price Autogas in Mid Wales, for £1700 inc. VAT and servicing for as long as I own the car.

Range: typically 230-240 lead-footed miles on a tank. Drove from Burnham-on-Sea to Stoke-on-Trent to Mid Wales today, got 276 out of it.

Well there are certainly a couple of filling stations locally, but depends where in Devon you are if they are acually realistically local to you.

I had a friend convert a V8 Range Rover, he said it was great for econemy but rubbish for power. He decided to sell it when he was towing a caravan up Holdon Hill, flat out, and was overtaken by an Escort, with a bigger caravan!

most if not all of conversions now make no difference to power what so ever

HI,

Been running mine on lpg for about 2 years now and things to look out for or ask the installer is:-

1. what type and make is the kit (best use the Italian makes and insist on a multipoint system – no loss of power).

2. insist on having Flash Lube installed (very easy and cheap to do ( you can pick one of fleebay for around £80 inc. flashlube bottle)

3. make sure you can have it checked out and diagnostics read (your engine light will start to flash – once you have it read you will now what’s at fault and how to rectify the problem) in my case its just saying fuel mixure to leane or rich, which is to do with the gas.

4. I recommend a spare wheel tank (it sits in your spare wheel well) and just keep the spare wheel in the boot (takes up less space than a cylinder tanks and more capacity).

Good luck and hope you will keep on Lexing (its fast becoming clear that going gas is the easiest way to keep running the lexus) :winky: if you have any questions just ask. :)

Theres one on eBay for sale thats LPG...anyone know where i could get this done if i decide to? Im based in Kent and how much would i be looking at for the is200? I don't think any petrol stations in the south east do gas yet..might have to search about...

LPG lexus eBay Item number: 320257017200

UPDATE: Just been through the old LPG threads/sub threads and it's put me off lol

especially the one about we might be going to biofuels instead...but then again by that time i think my lexus would be truely down and out or i'd already be 10 feet under.

Re buying the gas, there's not much of an issue down here. Having said that, alot of places that sell lpg are not big garages, just smaller suppliers. Maybe you would find the same thing in your areas?

Hi,

Thanks for your post.

I am thinking of going with these guys - http://www.gaspoweruk.co.uk/

It is a little dearer than other places but they are only 10 mins from where I work so servicing and any problems can be sorted easily.

He is going to put a BRC phase sequential system on. I asked about the flashlube and he said he'd throw it in for me :winky: We are going for the spare wheel tank.

He said that the new systems don't have the same problems with the ECUs as in older systems so the point 3 you made is sorted now.

Any thing else I should know? I'm planing to book her in so any of you guys thinking about it can have a look when I bring her to JAE! :D
