Gear Problems

Recommended Posts

Alright folks, been having trouble selecting gears when stationary, the problem seems to go away a bit once moving and then its fine again.

i tought it might have been the ball joint part of the gear shift being worn as that happened in my mazda so i bought the short shifter from prolex and it seemed fine but is back to its old tricks. The other weird thing is that its not constant, sometimes its fine but the majority of the time i have to force it in which i can imagine isn't doin it any favours.

I put in a new clutch a few months back but was fine after wards, its like theres something in there which occasionlly jams it. Bled the clutch and that made no difference, although it was just a 5 min job perhaps theres still air in there somewhere but as i said once im moving its fine again, just seems to be for 1st and reverse that are the main problem

Spoke to lexus and they claim to have never had anything like it, anyone got any suggestions?

Sounds like the pressure plate/release bearing. If they are worn or warped then it will not allow the clutch to seperate from the flywheel, causing grinding when engaging when stationary. Will also cause you some notchy gearshifts too.

Hm....... it was a new one that we fitted when we did the clutch and flywheel, would it be possible that it just wasn't up to the job and gave up eary. It only really started happening when i get it back from the garage when they were carrying out the ecu work, it was on and off the dyno all the time for ages so could this have killed it? It was just a standard one which we put back on as the one which came with the lutch didn't fit!

I dont think it was possible to get it to fit at all, it was totally different, would perhaps make sense though if it wasn't a 100% fit then it could have worn etc.

Still got it lying in the garage somewhere i think, the clip on it is totally different and there is no "lugs" for the other one to fit securely considered pulling the two apart to make one but i figured if there would be something to go wrong it would be that lol.
